We've already got the inside track to sign a pretty good #3 weapon in free agency by the name of Marcus Thornton. Should come a lot cheaper than Gay's max contract too.

Have you bothered to look at his contract. He's due 15 million next year, and his contract runs for a total of 4 years ending at 19 million dollars. Thats a chunk of change mi amigo. You bring in Gay, and then sign Dalembert and Thornton, your done. And you may have jeapardized the resigning of Evans.

Yes I would do it in a heartbeat. I might even do a top 3 pick for him. The difference between Gay and Thornton is that Thornton is a 2 and Gay is a 3. We are pretty awful at the 3 spot. I wouldn't mind bringing Marcus off the bench and starting Reke, Beno, Dally, Cousins, and Gay. That would be pretty sweet. Plus, there is nothing better than "Gay Cousins" IMO.

That's a tough one. No doubt Rudy Gay would improve the team but would he improve it by enough to justify his hefty contract? Plus he'd be coming off of major surgery too.

If we put at risk resigning evans then you have to let this go. Id do all we can to bring in granger before i even consider this

What if it doesn't work? What then? Take a look at Detroit and Milwaukee. They overpaid for players when they were under the cap and now their stuck in mediocricy. Look at Atlanta! They blew their fortune on Johnson, and yes, they're a playoff team, but do you think they'll ever win a championship with that team? The Kings are at a critical moment of their rebuild. They can't afford to make a 15 million dollar 4year mistake. And I'm not saying Gay would be that mistake. But I think I'd take a long look at it before doing it in a heartbeat.

As an aside, people seem to just be writing off Thorntons contribution, and how he was able to mesh with Evans as though it was no big deal. Thornton was a huge part of the Kings late season revival. But most importantly, he fit next to Tyreke seamlessly, and also showed leadership. He brought about a change in the entire chemistry of the team. For the positive. Thats the kind of stuff you wish you could bottle and sell. What the Kings need to do now is simply add to that, without screwing it up. They don't need another big gun!!!. They need defense, and the ability to hit open shots from the SF position. Some veteran leadership would also help, but I don't want to pay 15 million dollars for it.

I don't understand why what bajaden just wrote is not understood.

Edit: if anyone disagrees with bajaden, say so. I'd love to join the debate.

If you are just throwing things against the wall to see if they stick, go ahead but be ready for a debate. We have 4 starters assuming we resign Dally and Thornton. They get along. They compliment each other. The proof is in the record near the end of the season if there needs to be tangible proof. Thornton changed the team - surprisingly. It isn't just the one guy that made them better at the end of the year but the way they fit together. Thornton was what we needed in many ways including his almost lack of need to be the star. He'll be a star without demanding it. That's unique.

This elusive term "chemistry" fits this team. As a team they never gave up but never had the skill or perhaps on the court chemistry to get over the hump to respectability. Add Thornton and he became the third weapon and fairly abruptly there was a team looking ONLY for a SF. Marcus is exactly the kind of player we needed. Perhaps the best part of his game is that he is not afraid to take the crucial shot. This is a remarkable quality in a guy so young. How many fans hoped he had the ball in his hands at the end of a close game? I did.

He is probably worth more than we will pay and that he will demand. Such is life but it's a good thing for us.

We don't need a third weapon. We have it. The "third weapons" people are mentioning cost twice what I believe Marcus will get and there is really no guarantee that they will offer as much as he does.

Let's move forward efficiently. I like almost all the options for a SF that have been mentioned. They all will improve this team. Some are expensive and some not so bad. Iggy would be ideal but it depends on what we give up. He's on the expensive side. If Cisco is part of the trade subtract Cisco's salary and it doesn't seem so bad. If a trade can't be pulled off to our satisfaction, we go for a free agent.

The draft pick is a bonus and assuming it's not one of the first two, will get us a player who will be on the bench but will contribute. It's ideal for a skilled yet untested rookie.

Gay-Love would've trumped that had they not traded Kevin on draft night.

Anyway, I like Rudy Gay and he'd be a good fit. But a big HELL NO to that contract. Way too expensive for a player that's not even a star.

Yeah, I didn't realize the contract was so bad. We could probably spend our money better elsewhere.

Then, they should've signed Ramon Sessions or somehow got their hands on Derrick Favors. "Gay-Love-Sessions" and "Gay-Love-Favors" are basically unbeatable in the "things that make your 10-year old self snicker" department.

Also no to Rudy Gay, messes with the chemistry, the (finally) defined roles and the salary situation.

Overpaid, overrated player. The Grizz wouldn't be this far if he were healthy. Allen and Battier have provided solid wing play and defensive veteran leadership that made the difference along with Z-Bo's tremendous play. Gay isn't the solution IMO.
