Just saw on yahoo that he might be out for the season, great news for us maybe he'll drop to #4 pick now. Thats right, I am already expecting us to lose the lottery even if we get the worst recrod.
Don't speak too soon. If the lottery were held today we could fall as far as sixth.

From what I've seen, Kemba has a mid-range game, a floater in the lane, a game off the ball, an ability to create his own shot, an ability to run the pick and roll, and ability to drive to the basket at will, and he's a good on the ball and off the ball defender. I haven't seen anything that he can't do that you'd ask of a guard If you see him play in the future, look critically at his game and see if you can find the flaw(s). So far, I haven't seen it. He also has something that is difficult to assign a value: He hits the big shot at the end of the game to win it for you. I've seen him will games to a win, just completely take the game over. So far this year, I haven't seen that from anybody else, with the possible exception of the Honneycut game. But the year is very young. Also, I didn't see that from Lawson when he was at NC, and Flynn had maybe one great game at Syracuse. They were nice distributors on good teams, but they didn't just take over the game. You didn't fear them. With Kemba, you fear him. Coaches are already starting to have game plans totally devoted to stopping him.
Totally agree Kingster. I was kind of playing devil's advocate, but I think there is no doubt Walker right now is superior than Lawson/Flynn when they were in school.
Big bummer on Irving though, I really hope he comes back before March and its not a long lingering injury.

Awful news. Irving was number one on my wishlist. Still have hope he will be back in time for March madness - he's young, in great shape, hard working and enthusiastic. If he goes about it the right way, there's no reason he shouldn't be back playing in three months time.

It is a bummer about Irving. He still might come out though if it isn't viewed as major and his draft status wouldn't be hurt a lot. Unlike Kemba, I haven't seen enough of Irving to form an opinion, other than he has a sweet outside jump shot.

Think John Wall with a better jumpshot. Not saying he'll be as good as Wall. I haven't seen enough of him to go there yet. But he's going to be good..

Whoa there bro. Let's wait until he plays a whole season of NCAA basketball before we compare him to anybody.
Why not? We knew how good John Wall was before he played a single game of college ball. We know how good Kyrie Irving is now, after only a few games. He's very, very good, with ball handling, driving and passing skills that rival what John Wall has. Wall has better size, Irving has a better jump shot, but we can compare his game. It's not like it's a mystery.

can perry jones play the 2 spot?

we'd have a ridiculously tall line up w/ him at the 2..

Not from what I've seen, just because defensively, while he is a great athlete, he can't guard quick 2's. I would LOVE him at the 3 though, some scouts are now saying he could be the top prospect on the board for many GM's above T-Jones. Its tough to pass up on a 6'11'' guy with such length and incredible skill set. BPA for us please.

I'm sorry, but I just haven't seen enough of him to make that assumption. You are entitled to your own opinion, and I respect that. But we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one for the time being. It's a shame he is out for the year though, so much for further evaluation. All you can base his game on is what? 7-10 games? If even..

Hey, what happened happened to you? I thought you might have drunk the Kool-Aid because of too many disastrous losses.;) I'm now thinking that being a King's fan is as close to knowing what Prometheus experienced when he had his liver eaten by the eagle each day for time eternity...

can donte cover the quick 2s while jones plays the 3 spot?

If we go BPA and pick a 3, we might be seeing the last of Donte or Omri.

I can see us trading one of the two for a solid vet to "experience" up our roster, so thats not all bad.

We all know how it goes though. If this is a 2 player daft, we pick 3rd. If its a 3 player draft, we pick 4th. I'm not going to get my hopes up for any player yet (although, I did want both Evans and Cousins. SO thats 2 for 2 recently).

haha I doubt it, but even if he could, the way he is shooting right now, there is no way I'd want Donte playing the 2 for us. I really wish he'd be more assertive and go to the rack a bit more instead of settling for long bombs. It would be nice to have three 6'11'' athletes running the court for the Kings lineup.

Go back and read what I wrote. I was trying to create an image of who he best mirrors on just a few games. And he reminds me of Wall with his quickness and speed and size. But I also qualified it by saying I couldn't make a reasonable judgement on just a few games. I'm the one that preaches that you can't judge players on just a couple of games. Thats why I've already seen Kentucky play 7 times this year. By the way. Its highly possible that he'll never play an entire season of NCAA basketball.

Naw, I'm alive and well. At least for the time being. I'm currently up in sacramento visitiong my daughter, who by the way has Dish network. Ironic that I can watch kings games in Mexico, but I can't watch them in sacramento. I also have limited use of a computer while here. So until the first of the year, I'll be a little scarce. But I'll be watching you...Heh heh heh!!!

I'm a beliver in always playing a player to his strengths, and Perry is a SF that could fill in at PF with the right matchup. I think you would be playing to his weakness at the SG position. If a player is at his best at SF, then play him at SF. Period! That aside, Perry is a terrific talent. Super athlete for his size with a lot of fundamental skills you just don't see in a 6'11" player. I also like Terrence a lot. He's also a very good athlete that plays with high entensity and with a motor that doesn't seem to quit. I like both these guys a lot.

I think this should be put to rest because he isn't going to play anymore basketball this season. Now, whether he declares in this years draft will be up to him. I don't see it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Well, like Curry two years ago I think Irving is going to be 'my guy' this year. Ive said this before, but until March Madness comes along I dont watch College Basketball becuse I care about wins or losses, I watch because I like to look at guys who could fit in with the Celtics or Kings.

With no real dominant big this year, and our current big man situation ( which I like ) I think were best off looking at PG's and SF's. I still believe that one of Omri or Donte can be an effective starter in this league, so Im trying to focus on the PG position, and I just feel like Irving is the best one out there for this team.

I really like his quickness and handling. The Kings are a slow team. We rarely push the ball up the court. Irving has fantastic speed and knows how to use it. He seems like a willing passer. Very efficient and I like what I have seen from his shot thus far.

Too bad he is hurt, but that could help us in the long run if he slips.

I like what I've seen from Irving so far, and it looks like thats all I'm going to see this year. There's a better than even chance that he'll return to Duke next year. So I wouldn't get my hopes up high...

Perry Jones III didn't look very good to me in the game today. We'll see...........
He has a very inconsistent jump shot. Lets remember that the kid is only 18 years old, and he may not be donw growing yet. His athleticism is off the chart. The part of his game that I've liked so far is that he really handles the ball well for a 6'11" player, and he's a very good passer. I get it it that he has a lot of rough edges, but for a kid to be that big and athletic, with those skills is something you have to pay attention to. His biggest challenge in the NBA will be figuring out what he can't do.

Hall of Famer
There's a player I'm really starting to like. I haven't figured out exactly how he'll translate to the NBA, and I mean position wise. Thats the kid Williams from Arizona. I haven't said much about him because I wanted to see him play 4 or 5 times before making any judgements. But the kid is good. Very solid fundamentally, and very skilled. Seems to have a very high basketball IQ. Right now he's playing PF and I'm a little concerned about his true size and height. Looks like he has the skills to play SF, but I'm not sure he's quick enough.

The guy is a solid post player though, and very smart. Never seems to force anything, and just lets the game come to him. He might be one of those guys that develops into what they call a streach 4.

What about Jordan Hamilton out of Texas? Can play at the 2 and 3 has excellent size and range, would fit well next to Tyreke in the backcourt.

If your looking for a SG you'd have to take a look at Hamiltion. But he's would have to really up his game to be picked where it looks like the Kings are picking. He's been playing much better this year and starting to look like the player they thought he would be when they recruited him. Lets have a wait and see attitude with him. I like him, but at the moment there are quite a few players that I would take before him. At least with a first round pick.

Just reading about Jonas Valanciunas and he sounds like a pretty good center prospect. Raw offensive game, but he's got the hands, touch, length, height, and pretty good athleticism. He's putting up really good scoring and rebounding numbers in the Euroleague as well. He's a project, but he seems like one of those prospects that has all the unteachable tools.

Believe it or not, I actually saw him play. Still very young, and needs to add a lot of muscle. But he a very good athlete and seems to have legit size. He makes a serious effort at playing defense. He'd be someone that would be in a similar position as Whiteside is. Still a couple of years away, but could be worth the wait.

I'd say it's time for me to jump back into the draft threads...

Yeah, I like Valunciunas. Big body, and has shown scoring, rebounding, and shotblocking potential, and that's pretty much what you need to succeed as a big in this league. He's extremely foul prone right now, but he's super young and has that basic foundation of skills. I'd be surprised if he wasn't a lottery pick at the next draft--I currently have him pegged 7th personally in my mock, and in a draft lacking good internationals, he really stands out here.

My favorites to be in the lottery so far into the season are John Henson, Kyrie Irving, Jared Sullinger, Terrence Jones, Chris Singleton, Travis Leslie and Valunciunas. I know several names stand out in this list--John Henson's offense is so raw/unrefined and Travis Leslie operates basically as a 6'4" PF--but if you look at their physical tools and how they impose their athleticism into the game, I'd say they'd look even better at the NBA game.

I think you have to include Harrison Barnes, although so far he's hasn't done anything to make me jump up and down about. I really like Perry Jones. He has skills that you don't see in a 6'11" player very often. He's a little erratic with his jumper, and rough around the edges in general, but he's a great athlete that handles the ball well, and passes the ball well. Sullinger has impressed me far more than I thought he would. He's the real deal, and he's only 18 years old. He reminds me of Kevin Love in a lot of ways. A little undersized height wise and ground bound, but extremely effective around the basket. I love Terrence Jones for similar reasons that I like Perry, with more added on the defensive side. Singleton is no surprise. He's one of those glue guys that every team needs. I don't see him as a lottery pick though.

At the moment you have to include Kemba Walker. He may be a one year flash in the pan, but you simply can't ignore what he's doing. I also like Derrick Williams, who is just a fundamentally sound player that never seems to lose his composure. I'll be very surprised if Brandon Knight isn't in the lottery. He's a very good shooter with great quickness and size. And he may be the 2nd best PG in the draft. Although at the moment he appears to be more of a shoot first PG. He does have passing skills though and plays good defense. At least at the college level.
