Right. That's the only way a Grant deal makes sense - if they are looking to clean up their cap going forward. If the Blazers want equal talent (in addition to having to match salary) then it essentially removes him as a trade target for the Kings.
But IF Portland wants to move off that deal, they'd probably rather have all expiring contracts instead of Huerter, especially with their glut of guards. So maybe Lyles and Davion instead. But I could see where they might have a bit more interest in Barnes, just as a vet mentor to their young guys.
I haven't had a whole lot of time to scout anyone this year but it kinda sounds like you're describing TyTy Washington, which doesn't make me feel warm and tingly.

The Blazers are kinda in a weird spot where they have a bunch of vets, too many young players to develop and some more picks coming. They need to start consolidating asap and push some picks into the future
Yeah, the inefficiency is very worrisome. Even on some of wide open C&S threes, he bricked them. He basically needs to be a lights out shooter to be successful at the nba level because I don't think he'll ever be able to super effective attacking the rim.
His highs are very very good and you can start dreaming that he's like a Jamal Murray type 2.0. But his lows are average-below average athleticism with good feel, but can't shoot. Pretty wide range imo

Sounds like too much longer term developing. Not sure McNair is looking to go that way at this point

Is 30 now considered “youngish”? I must have missed that memo.
As others have stated, it’s his contract, age, and the fact that he’s on a rebuilding team that make him available. As for the trade I proposed in my previous posts, many POR fans on other forums think that’s a solid deal for Grant. From what I have gathered, it seems like a fairly realistic deal for both sides.
And I disagree with saying this is a weak draft as it relates to our pick. It’s definitely weak at the top but that’s not relevant for where we’re picking.

Looking back through history, most of the best players were somewhere in the middle of their prime at about 30. Not sure it needs a label beyond that

I'm not in his head. But to act like Monk wouldn't consider changing teams for a pay raise of a few million per year AND the chance to play with Wemby the next few years is silly. IF the Spurs target them, it's a compelling situation for sure. Especially if they have him compete for the PG slot.

Maybe he’s a good FA target, i’m just not sure about how he complements Sabonis.

At some point it would probably be a him or Lyles thing too. They kind of both fill the same role, can't play the 3, and the 5 is based on how Brown runs his offense. Last year Brown wanted defense, not a mismatch of Lyles at the 5. Len won out in the end.

If Monk commits to resigning and you can swing a trade for Ingram but have to include Keon, do you do it? I’m on the fence, but WOW what a starting 5.
Honestly, no.
We *potentially* found absolute gold with Keon. He showed us he can be one of the best defensive players in basketball last season. Basically the second he entered the rotation, the Kings had a top 3 defense for the remainder of the year. With the only changes being him and Davion being higher MPG guys.
I'm finding out what his ceiling is, because the best case scenario of an archetype like Keon is exactly the type of player you need to win championships. To me, it's a massive mistake to uncover a gem like Keon and just ship him off at the very first opportunity you get.

You have to give to get. For those that want Ingram, the other packages just don’t do it for the Pels. For me, talented wings > talented guards. Admittedly, I do expect a haliburton type shock for this one.
Sure, but I'm not a huge Ingram guy. Talented scorer and playmaker, but he doesn't really play defense and he's hurt all the time.
Lauri is the somewhat realistic star available that I'd shove all in for.
I just don't see Ingram as a good fit, and that's before we get to his cost being prohibitive.
He's a relatively high usage scorer who operates heavily in the midrange and doesn't improve the team defensively either as a man or team defender.
For a Kings team that already has to work around the spacing issues that Sabonis presents, Ingram will congest things further.
I like his playmaking ability and it wouldn't hurt for the Kings to have another guy that can create his own shot (hopefully Keegan makes more gains in that area) but offense hasn't been the issue for this team. It's spacing and defense.

That works as well, I’m just not sure the Jazz are as desperate to unload him as the pels are Ingram.
Now if you can get Ingram without touching the core 4... sure. Even with him wanting a massive deal and everything, I'd take that risk and that potentially future albatross contract because I think Ingram actually is still good.

Ingram is a 35.5% 3pt shooter. Teams would definetly have to guard him. Plus he has a 7’2 wingspan, so I think he could be a decent defender. Better than Barnes for sure.

The onus is on NO to try to get enough for him. They have already told him they will not offer an extension. So they risk losing him for nothing after next season if they don't trade him. It is also a gamble for any team that trades for him. He makes $39 million this season and is an UFA that could walk after the season. No team is giving up a lot with that risk.

Talen Horton-Tucker looks intriguing. Kind of a hefty combo guard that you could put at the 2 spot and bully ball your way into the paint to drive and kick, or synergize with Sabonis for a dunk. I like his game, he could be a good connector piece. Fox and THT could be a pretty lethal combo.
Bol Bol would be an interesting fit with Sabonis. Super long weakside defender with C&S upside.
