I think the Nets could actually be in the market for Lillard if POR finally decides to move him.

Given everything Lillard has meant to Portland wouldn't it be most likely they move him somewhere he has a special connection as a thank you rather than the way the Nets basically said anywhere but LA with Kyrie? I am thinking Golden State or maybe even Utah. Does he have a personal connection to the Nets?

Former Wildcat is always a check in my yes column, and it seems like Pop and Brown have a great relationship. Kerr is on that tree, not sure who else. A lot of teams have reloaded already though. I would not mind at all.

hdr's dream would finally come true. I remember he was HARD on the Stanimal train. And really, with how valuable his archetype is, it's very strange he never really panned out.

Still, he's been pretty good the last few seasons. Certainly an upgrade on the KZ Okpala spot and a position we could use real reinforcement at down the stretch

Like, what in the world made the article writer decide to use the phrase "literal interpretation"? This is not some sort of hidden technicality. It's the explicit rule!

If a team trades a player who is subsequently waived by the acquiring team during the duration of the contract, the original team may not claim the player off waivers or sign them until either the July 1 following the original end of the contract, or one year from the date of the trade, whichever is first. So for Stanley Johnson and the Lakers, it's July 1st 2023.

I was certainly interested in Stanley Johnson back in 2015, he seemed to have all the makings for a star type SF. I haven’t followed him much since, but if there are no injury concerns and he’s playing well sounds like a nice pickup.

I'd say that Alex Len is clearly the guy who should get bought out. With Holmes here and the deadline passing Len serves as little more than roster filler.

KZ at least functions as some form of defensive specialist. While Len is truly the last guy off the bench.

Yeah no question. Metu/Holmes/Lyles is plenty of bigs depth of the bench and you can always tap Queta if you needed as well. KZ still represents a developmental piece that you might hold on to next season. Len... probably won't be in the NBA

Who is even out there on the market though? I know people have mentioned Noel but I see he has a team option next season, can the Pistons decline that now to buy him out? They might have to hold onto him at this point.

I wouldnt mind Wall for backup PG. Stanley Johnson for another wing. And for backup big, Noel, if bought out, or Ibaka for defensive big or Cousins for a big that can slide in while Domas is out. I know our team got us here at this point but with many teams getting better, i dont think standing pat will get us far into the playoffs or even keeping the 3rd seed. Our bench is constantly letting us down, gotta upgrade and players at the end of the bench are just taking up space.

Are you referring to me? Yeah, he was one of my favorite draft prospects ever. I thought he was basically going to be a combo of Ron Artest and Jaylen Brown (he predates Jaylen Brown as a draft prospect but I like @serbiangoat 's comparison and it accurately describes what I felt about him at the time). Stan Van Gundy really only gave him the one season tryout as a starter and his shooting splits were so abysmal he nearly played himself out of the NBA entirely.

It's bizarre how a player can look like an unstoppable scoring force in Summer League and then never touch 40% from the field in their first 4 years in the NBA, but it's happened before. In baseball they call those guys AAAA -- too good for the minors but not good enough for the major league. His shooting splits in limited minutes for the Spurs this season were really good though and he's always been an asset defensively. I'd still love to see him in a Kings uniform, even if it's just for part of a season.

For those who don't know - there were literally cases of teams sending players in trades mid-season for cap matching purposes only to have the receiving team waive them and those players to re-sign with the original team.

Maybe a year is too long in Stanley Johnson's case - IF and only IF no other team has interest - but the rule 100% is necessary.

I'd not be opposed to bringing Stanley in.

I know you meant this as a joke, but dude...

Westbrook is probably one of only a handful of players who would receive a HARD NO from me, regardless of his eventual role on the team/roster. Even if it is being the water boy...

Most others would at least get some sort of consideration, but RW belongs in the group that doesn't get any.

He had the swagger and everything as well insane how he ended up having a horrible career, I thought he revived his career a bit when he was calling out LeBron saying they were scared of the Pistons (they lost 4-0 but were competitive) but no. Stanley and Chris Singleton (funnily enough has developed a 3 point shot in Europe) were the 2 guys I was more wrong about. I thought both would be Ron Artest types as well.

RJ Hampton was arguably the hardest player to watch in the summer league. Some of the worst stat padding I've ever seen.

I can't help but think of how Portland metro native Love trashed UO when he went to UCLA and think he'd think he's too big for Sacramento but it might actually be best fit for him if he wants to show he can still play for a team that is at least hoping to make the 2nd round of the playoffs.
