RJ Hampton was arguably the hardest player to watch in the summer league. Some of the worst stat padding I've ever seen.
Hampton used to basically average 30point triple doubles back in highschool / the EYBL circuit thats how he got so highly ranked and the NBL contract.

IMO players Hamptons age are never the hardest players to watch in SL. The hardest players to watch are always the 28 year olds who get destroyed n ruin the games that we all just want to see the rookie aged players in.

He's a pretty good ball handler for a player that height and despite him not being much of a 3pt threat and playing a bit of a scorers stat pady type of game classically he's not a big turnovers guy, so while he's certainly no star his skillset could very well be suited for a bench role.

He's not a send him to the Gulag/Russian leagues type of dud.. He deserves at least a second chance/team.

If you feel Davion's play has warranted him to be given the backup PG uncontested, thats fine. I dont, I'd prefer to see him have some competition, n our choices are limited so Hampton would be great to take a flier on, n surely he'd love to get out of Orlando.

I'm ok taking a flyer on him because I don't think Mitchell should be playing at all, I just hope he isn't the same player I saw in summer league. At best it is was a really bad showing for him.

I think Hampton is awful right now as an NBA player. Davion has been disappointing, but I’d much rather bet on him turning around his offense. Hampton is going to need to play through a ton of mistakes.

Id actually really go for love too. He replicates the rebounding and passin abilities we lose when domas goes to the bench, though he wont do much for the D.

Many sophomore players go through slumps. Davion's thing is he is not being aggressive on offense, but if he focuses this off season on his shot, he will be fine. Hard to break a slump if you don't shoot.

Doesn't seem to be any bigmen shaking loose on buyouts. The Kings still need a viable backup for Domas, so that he will have some gas left for the stretch run and playoffs.....

Is it time to kick the tires on a DMC reunion? A 10 Day contract will give the Kings a chance to see if he can contribute, if not we let him go after the 10 days..... just sayin'

All players go through slumps. Harrison Barnes is how many seasons in....and he goes through them in cycles

DMC has shown he can play in his last 2 stops. We need a back up center. Doesn’t make sense we haven’t taken a flyer on him honestly considering some of the scrubs on this roster

There's still time for players to be boughtout.. March 1st is the deadline that a player can be waived and still come here and be on the playoff roster...

On the other hand, agreeing to a buyout and then signing a minimum-salary contract with a new team would force Noel to give up his Bird rights and may pigeonhole him as a minimum-salary player going forward. So he has some incentive to pass on buyout talks and force the Pistons to make a decision on whether they want to simply waive him, paying his full salary, to open up a roster spot.

Interesting nugget I saw possibly affecting the Nerlens Noel situation.. The article this was pulled from also states that several playoff bound teams are interested in his services if he's available.

The big problem is that all these new free agents seem to be going to the big market teams. The Kings haven’t even been in any real rumors to sign any of these boughtout FA.

Dwight Howard. Older, but rebounds and defends the rim. It may cost too much to buy him out of the Taiwan contract, but he's putting up monster numbers. I'm surprised another NBA team hasn't tried to sign him.

Meh. Logically makes sense, but if we're going to go that route, bring Boogie home. He can give you some of the sets that you run with Sabonis and talk about energizing this fanbase in a way no other min value signing could do.

It is a little disheartening. Kevin Love would have been an easy fit here. Not a peep.
Kevin has always fancied himself a big market player and spent his whole career in Minny and Cleveland. I don't think he'd ever have considered Sacramento or even his hometown club (Portland).

that may or may not be true but Miami has been bad offensively this year and he can probably help that team more than the Kings. If he came here he would just be fighting for Lyles minutes and Trey has been the better player this year.

Sacramento has not been a player destination for nearly 20 years. What has changed now? Players will come here only after we make some noise in the playoffs.

Like in love, it's not enough for to us to love Love, Love would have to love us back.

I think you can make an argument that there are only two destinations in the entire NBA. LA and Miami. The rest of the teams have to have the right cash at the right time and a connection or two.

I’d add New York - even though the signings/trades there didn’t quite work out for them (Carmelo, Nets).

Also true. I definitely think he could make an impact for the Kings but I'm just not sure that's where his head is at, more likely he sees Miami as a nice landing pad and if he can get one last contract out of them with their tax advantaged status and spend his mid 30s in Miami that is probably a nice life. Maybe guys look at Haslem and think they can eek out a dozen final contracts. :D

Except the problem isn't offense, and Boogie can't play defense. We need a rim protector and a willing rebounder when Sabonis is off the floor. Most of the time, it'll be Fox/Monk handling the ball anyway. We don't need Cousins for the only thing he's good for now - chucking up 3s. Finally, I don't think he energizes the fan base. He's a polarizing figure. Even this small sample size forum is mixed on Cousins.

The thing about Cousins is… is he still any good? His last couple teams have said very nice things about him, and then politely declined to retain his services. I see the appeal in having him back up Sabonis so you get 48 minutes of an elite passing big/low post threat, but I didn’t see enough of his play the last couple seasons to say if he’d actually help here or not.

Per minute Cuz was about as Cuz as he ever was. Wow, that was about as straight Dr. Suess as you can get haha. His defense is awful, no question, but what Kings big outside of Domas isn't terrible on D? The fact is the Kings run a very C based motion offense and I can't see how Cuz, one legged or not, wouldn't be a major improvement over the Kings current options. I think the NBA also picks up his salary so what's the cost?

How about "picking up" Richaun Holmes off your own bench and running some pick and roll with him. At least try it. I still don't buy the story line that the team has to always play one way, because of what Sabonis does well

I mean sure, but the team doesn't seem to have any faith any more. Richaun Holmes his first 2 years here would be a perfect elite backup, but that guy may just be gone. I thought we may see him after the deadline, but it was still Metu getting run

I'm starting to think that the Holmes camp told Brown not to play him prior to the season. Otherwise it makes no sense.

I don't think that could be the case because before the season we all assumed he would be our full time back up. He played in those early games and didn't look good at all so he was booted from the rotation. I do think we would be better off with Holmes in there over Metu

I mean, I figured there was an agreement to keep him healthy until the deadline, but maybe it's literally just "Don't play him till he's off the team" type of situation.

Real bummer. Holmes has VERY recent history of being an elite role player. And the LAL game where he started shows he still has an upside left in his game. That was a classic Holmes performance.

There's honestly just no downside to trying to get him unlocked again. It's very difficult to be worse than Metu has been defensively for the better part of 2 months now and you're potentially giving teams a reason to trade for him in the off-season if he's a major contributor down the stretch for a playoff team.

It's really odd. What was the reason they gave him the start in LA when Sabonis was out? He was in the same situation going into that game, as he is now. He plays really well and is a key player in that win, including two clutch free throws at the end,....but then it doesn't change anything in his opportunity to play going forward. Why?

Agreed. People keep saying he doesn't fit the system in place with Sabonis here. Well neither does Metu but he gets the backup C minutes despite not being able to pass or shoot.
