Pacers' O'Neal Wants Bonzi

#61
Wow, I can't believe people are so opposed to trading Bonzi. Yes, he's been showing great hustle and toughness, clutchness, good citizenship etc. etc. -- but I still have to wonder, is it just a coincidence that this is a contract year?

Are you guys actually excited about signing a 29 year old who depends entirely on his athleticism to a longterm deal? How about when he's 32 and he's lost a step and can't shoot and makes questionable decisions, and hey, he's making $10 million a year? Or, the alternative, what if the price goes too high and he walks for nothing?

I say strike when the iron is hot, and if the Pacers are crazy enough to trade Ron for Bonzi you do it in a second. I'm a big Bonzi fan this year, but Petrie would be insane not to make that trade.

it doesn't matter because we are just going to lose both of them after the year is up. So i mean. I don't know what i mean. Artest seems like one of those players that the kings guys can't change because hes so crazy and wacko. I mean, hes kinda like frankenstein. He is nice when u seem him around like kids and stuff like when he gives the girl the flower. But he can't control him self he starts going crazy. If he can't control what comes out of his own mouth. I don't know. i just don't know if he would play to a full extent for us.

No. We're Kings fans.

Rabidly, unflinchingly, irrationally devoted to whichever player is our current favorite.

As of right now... I just might consider kidnapping Bonzi long enough to miss the physical if he were to be traded.

Anyone on this team is expendable. Period.
True. But there is certainly a heirarchy of expendability.

Actually, I think Bonzi will get a 5 year deal that averages 8-10 million per. Sort of like what we gave to Christie when he became a free agent, only a little more lucrative. I'd be very comfortable with a deal like that, especially considering the leadership that Bonzi has shown this year. I think he's turned a corner, which is also why I would not part with him for Artest.

Peja-Artest=good
Bonzi-Artest=bad

You may be right, and I really wouldn't consider that a bad outcome since Bonzi sets a great tone for the team and I'd cross my fingers that his production will continue even when he's not playing for a contract. All the same, if the Pacers want Bonzi I'd kidnap GGG so she couldn't kidnap Bonzi.

Well, JO is a really good scout. And he is right. Pedja would struggle on Pacers, Bonzi would flourish. The best deal from Pacers point is Bonzi for Artest.

From our side, it would not be such a bad idea if Bonzi was not just about the only King who is earning his cheque this year.

I would actually prefer Artest at SG if we got him. That back court needs to be shored up defensively sooner rather then later. Neither Artest nor Bonzi will make our PF/C combo any better on D and boards then they are now. Furthermore, there is only so many "hustle points" to go around between Bonzi and Artest due to the similar size and position(s) that they play.

Exactly, GGG! Ron has repeatedly said he feels his lack of chance to build/showcase his offensive skills have hampered his progress - especially as compared to those in the league he feels are his equals.

Let me know the time and place should a Bonzi kidnapping become necessary....;)

ok...i gotta tell you all that as a pacers fan that keeps pretty up to date on this board, that i find this subject pretty entertaining....

i cant believe that some of the same people that are violently opposing any trade for artest coming to the kings are trumpeting bonzi and refusing to even consider his departure....

u do realize that on message boards all over the country, including this very one, that conversations and debates like the artest one on here right now were going on about bonzi????

and they were just as heated....checkered past, great talent, but reputation would seem to nix the deal....

and yet the love for bonzi is overwhelming, while only playing 20 games....i dont wanna say some of us might be a bit fickle, but still....

u dont think that if ron were to come to sac, that after his first 20 games the fan base wouldnt be in love with him??? even those that currently oppose the idea??? oh i would beg to differ with u if u disagreed....u think u guys love bonzi, well ron is bonzi to the 4th power...

and please, the intent of this post wasnt to start a who is worse argument-bonzi or ron...cause trust me, being from indiana, and bonzi being available last summer, we had numerous conversations regarding exactly that....and far more is known about bonzi in indiana thanmost kings fans know...and thats a good thing and should stay that way...just thought i would point out the irony of the situation....

and btw...obviously JO is buds with bonzi from their portland days...JO has also said he wants al as well....

and i agree with whoever said JO should basically stay quiet and not be putting these type of comments out there...but oh well....he has been playing absolutely great lately , so i wont dog him too much...

and again...i dont think ron is going to end up in sac...

denver, yes...lakers, yes...ny, outside chance..but not sac...

and btw...im watching the kings play the pistons...

GO KINGS !!!!!!!!!!
Well here is the simple difference. Bonzi has NEVER been on Artests level of insanity. Artest and Rodman are on the same level. Not Bonzi and Artest.

Interesting...I never considered Bonzi to be really athletic. From what I've seen he seems to rely more on strength and technique than athletisicism.

u might be very very surprised if u knew what i knew....;)

let me put it this way...even after the brawl....and most were very down on ron after that....

basketball fans from indiana still wouldve preferred ron...

because they know about bonzis past...

people like to make ron out to be something hes not....ron is not rodman....ron has had no trouble with the law...

the same cannot be said for bonzi or rodman...not even close...remember, just because someone says something doesnt make it true...

facts are facts, and often perception is far from the facts in this sensational-craved society we live in...

No, Ron has had no problems with the law. Oh, that is if you discount the whole RIOT in Detroit thing. Do you need any more reason than that?

He is lucky he isn't blackballed from the league for the crazy crap he's pulled. Especially screwing over Indiana like he has. Thats just wrong.

Question would you do this trade?

Bobby Jackson and Ostertag for Artest?

I am just messing with ya.(FYI:I do not want Artest on team I just want some perspective)

Believe it or not Petrie did a good job in offseason geting SAR and Bonzi. Whether or not they fit in with team is another matter. They are still excellent trade pieces.

i say do it..... ron is the best 1 on 1 defender in the league.... and he wants to expand on his offensive skills..... are perople nuts? you have to take that if its available. when he's busting his *** on defense and still getting 20 ppg would you be missing bonzi? and having a better scorer would make things easier for peja and bibby..... bonzi isnt a threat on offense..... ron can be.... he says that he only played defense to stay in the game......

you people cant be this high on bonzi so soon..... id rather have ron guarding kobe, manu, tmac, marion and maggette than peja or bonzi.....

trade bonzi for artest now.....

go kings....

I have no desire for Bonzi to fit in with our merry band of softies. I want them to fit in with HIM. Or them to fit in with Bonzi and Artest possibly.

Oh, and our 2reb a night PF is part of that merry band. Good lord does Geoff have a nose for softness.

I do think we are a few moves away from having some ability on defense. But I guess thats up to Geoff. I am so sick of seeing an open lane to the basket its sickeningly sickening. Its the same thing for the last 4 years. Just horrible. If we get Artest I hope they make another deal to bring in a TRUE center.

They are still great trade pieces if you think about. You can easly trade both of them and still get equal trade value back. Petrie's getting alot of flack lately but his just got his team upgraded this ofseason.

Artest may be a better player than Bonzi....and really a steal if Petrie can manage to pull it off....there is no question that there is a risk factor involved in trading a hard-working player for an established trouble maker. If anything, Peja's free agency next year should make it obvious who, if anyone, should go.

Lose Peja add Artest. That means the Kings would have added Reef, Bonzi, and Artest. That's added toughness don't ya think?

Adding toughness is good. Adding a nut job is bad. Artest can go party with TO for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned.

simple question....u have ur dream job in ur dream location to an organization that u feel a tremendous amount of loyalty to...and u are incredibly talented and noone puts forth more effort or works harder for that organization...and despite all this, u decide u simply cannot under any circumstances work for that organization anymore....

i know ur not in tune with all the intertwinings that go on in the pacers organization and probably view from a distance...but be assured of one thing....ron isnt screwing the pacers organization over....he simply has no choice...i dont expect u to fully understand, but just ask urself the question, why would a guy have his dream scenario yet demand to be traded?....

hint, it aint because hes crazy...

hint number 2....reggie miller said on national tv...ron artest is not the bad egg on the pacer team...

good luck...

oh good lord. You're getting icky now. Player fans often do. And the crossover point is always when they start blaming everybody else for their guy's problems. Just...ICK! Unless you are Ron or his wife, you simply do not owe him that level of disingenuity. He can be wrong and it doesn't personally effect you.
