Online Team Store non-op?

NOTE: This was originally part of the VB thread in the New Arena forum. I thought it deserved more prominence so I moved it here...

Geez, can the Maloofs be any more pathetic? They are just ignoring Sacramento. Hardly any events at PBP and this, too? The team may not be gone, but the Maloofs are clearly checked out of Sacramento. I wish the league could come down on them.

As someone said to me tonight, it's just one body blow after another at this point. My heart goes out to all those who are currently in the employ of MSE. They have jobs, but for how long? How can you be proud of where you work when you hold the distinction of being the only NBA team who doesn't even have their team store up online to sell draft pick merchandise? I can only imagine the embarrassment of Chris Clark when he made those statements.

This is abysmal.

What makes it worse is that the store has been down since June and none of us knew about it... Not a good sign for merchandise sales...

Well the Maloofs have trashed the fans and our city. They can't expect much at this point.

When all this is over, the guy who made that "greatest tragedy in sports" youtube documentary about the Kings-Lakers WCF needs to make a part two that highlights all this other BS we've been put through. Hopefully it would have a happy ending.

We tried to with an opportunity for Maloofs to clear their name but some people didn't want to and made it into a fluff piece. They call it "creative differences." I call it "conflict of interest."

Who ever said I wanted to include the Maloofs?? ;). And who is "we?" IMHO, there's no point in starting one until the Maloof's either commit to a new arena, sell the team, or leave Sacramento. Until then, this book's not closed.

Well, that would depend on whether your goals are the recording of history, or advocacy. If you want to record history as it happened, wait until the book is closed. If you want to nudge the direction of history as it is unfolding, you have to be a little quicker on the draw.

As someone who is lucky enough to own a video you made, I would absolutely LOVE to see you get involved in this. In fact, at one time I was trying to hook you up with Mike0476. You guys need to talk.

Mike is the driving force behind #FANS.

Am I the only one who actually believes what I read in that article? The company that ran the website went under, and it can take up to 4 months to start from scratch on an entirely new website. Is this out of the realm of possibility?

As long as you have your photos, pricing and a 13 year old kid to do the work, you can have a stopgap site up in two days. Even though their web company went under they still should have the data to reconstruct a site. I had my company's main site up in two weeks (not using a 13 year old kid). Granted it took more time to fine tune things but it was fully functional and integrated with our back end system in less than two weeks. This is another one that doesn't pass the smell test.

Yes, Ryan. You should PM Mike 0476. Really.

But would you want a stopgap site up for an organization as big/prominent as an NBA franchise? And would the NBA main office accept it if you did? It seems ridiculous, but maybe it was easier to save face wiht an under constructin sign than it would have been with a basic amateurish looking site.

AS cheap as the Maloofs are, who says they didn't have a 13 year old running their website? :)

We're talking about the Maloofs here, remember? With the gold lame uniforms? Rupe the Hoop? Amateurish is right in their wheelhouse.

I just took a look a a few of the team stores around the league and it looks like for a few of them a stopgap site would be an improvement- although most are very nice. All I know is that for myself I would rather have a slightly sub-par interim site that serves my customers than no site at all (you could even put "Please bear with us during construction" in the header). The longer my store is closed the more of my customers go somewhere else to shop. Many will never come back if they found other stores they liked better- bad business 101. Even if they were not allowed to do a stopgap site, unless they lost all of their data (not likely) taking four months to recreate a site is way too slow, especially for a company with the resources of an NBA team.

I hope this has been relayed back to the league office, just another sign of the goofs inability to properly run an NBA franchise.

First, it seems they weren't even willing to pay a half-way decent web developer, as whomever they were paying went under, which is somewhat tough to do if as a developer you have pro sports teams as clients. Were they paying some kid to work out of his parents basement?

Second, a pretty good web developer with a few years experience should be able to set up a working website within a month, easily, and update as needed. This is truly pathetic.

Third, there's a quote in the article from the Kings stating it's tough to hire someone to develop a website in this economy. That's a load of crap. There's plenty of developers looking for work. It's only a problem if you don't have the money to pay for one. Imagine that, an NBA franchise who doesn't have enough money to pay for someone to develop a f'ing website for their team store. Apparently, that's where we are. Forget moving to VB, could the Maloofs even afford a round trip flying coach on American Airlines?

I had bb trying to buy some kings swingman shorts but no dice. Even called the team store and they don't even carry them...I just don't know anymore. Smh
