i just wanted to give props to Omri for his breakout game tonight. Even if it was only a pre-season game. Hes overlooked a little bit because Tyreke is our star "rookie" this year .. but Omris had a very solid pre-season.. one of the better pre-seasons as a rook compared to rookies we've had in the past.

He rebounds, can score and brings alot of energy. Heres to hoping you earn yourself that starting spot Omri. Sorry Cisco but its looking like a blessing.

keep it up kid.

I am definitely excited about our rookies. If Casspi continues to progress, we could end up with two of the top ten rookies in the NBA this year. What more can a rebuilding team ask for? Reke and Casspi are beginning to remind me of the pre-Webber/Vlade Kings when we had Brian Grant and Michael Smith as our two rookies who wouldn't back down from anyone. Yeah, they made mistakes, as rookies do, but they still had an impact and gave Sacramento a new attitude. I think Evans and Casspi are going to have a similar impact.

Persistance and aggressiveness is his key. Had some blocks I think he did not get credit for as well. Really nice progress for Omri. Seems to be relaxing a bit and not trying to be "perfect". Those 3's were encouraging too. Really looking forward to seeing him play on friday at Arco.

Omri has been extremely impressive. This kid can play. Reminds me of a young ginobli, although thats only going off tape of him playing for argentina before coming to he nba.

I don't think Westphal is ready to throw Omri into the starting lineup yet, but he will get consistent minutes without a doubt. I think there is a decent chance mason sticks around until january and gives Omri some time to get his feet wet, but that he isn't extended a guaranteed contract and Omri moves into the starting lineup midseason.Because as impressive as he's been on offense, I think he will contibute just as much with his defense and hustle.

Congrats to Mr. Casspi for being one of our most consistently productive players in this brief bit of preseason. If he can keep it up, he'll be a steal for 23rd pick in what many feel was a shallow draft.

That to me seems very likely. I knew this kid could play when I first saw him. Yes he has a great all around game, but his background, pro experience, country etc. You just know he's got all those things motivating him. He has success written all over him. He's going to be a heck of a player, I guarantee it.

And I said similar things about Gerald Wallace the moment I saw him as well. So I have a track record.

edit: plus he's in a nearly perfect situation to develop, under what is more and more appearing to be a quality coach.

Glad to see Omri looking good thus far -- if everything broke just right for us a versatile roleplaying SF could be just the thing for our youth movement, and if he blossoms it could soften the blow if Donte busts. But just watching preseason results thus far, I am thinking this might turn out to be anything but a shallow draft. There are a whole bunch of guys looking really good in the early going thus far.

Im just happy that Omri got to see his shot go in. It does wonders for a players psyche. He did his thing on the boards too. Hopefully he becomes the perfect role playing 3, play tough D and knock down open shots.

Omri knows Krav Maga! Dont mess with him!

No doubt, Im glad his shot started to drop so soon too, i remember Kevin in his rookie year.. man it wasnt pretty. (well its still not pretty, but you get the point);)

krav maga! so if anyone pull a weapon on the kings we shall not fret Omri will be there. But seriously Krav Maga probably helped his conditioning tremendously, from what i've heard so far hes great at running the floor and breaking out before anyone else.

Most outstanding part was what PW had to say after the game. In an interview, he said (not an exact quote), "Omri was so pumped up, when they were talking about covering Amare, Omri said " let me defend him coach, I'll stop him".

To have that type of youthful entusiasm again.

This is what I said about Casspi pre-draft:

I've always like Casspi dating back to last year when I really thought he would keep his name in the draft--thought he had a guarantee by the Spurs with their late 1st round pick, and there were Hedo Turkoglu comparisons bandied about with him. This year, with a deep draft he's pushed back a little and probably is a 2nd rounder, so he could potentially be a steal. Either way, he'd probably be one of the BPAs found in the 2nd round, so he'd be a sound investment for a team drafting between #30 and #40.

Casspi is fairly productive, but his intangibles take him over the top--he's energetic, tough, plays well off the ball and in addition has the mismatch combination and athleticism to also get him a leg up. The guy is a pretty good scorer in the EuroLeagues--he's 2nd on his team in points per 48, and he's fairly efficient with a 58% TS--he diversifies his offense by slashing to the basket and hitting threes every now and then, and does them well in general (among the top in his team in pts/play and pts/possession). He aggressive asserts himself in scoring--he's among the top in his team in field goal attempts/possession and uses up quite a few possessions. With his athleticism and aggressiveness, it's reasonable to believe that his entire offensive package should translate well to the next level, although his unrefined jumper and limited ballhandling might limit him in a slight degree.

Casspi's athletic markers are sound--he's a solid rebounder (and a good offensive rebounder) and a good stealer within his team. The only real red flag for him statistically is assists--the guy rarely looks to pass and has limited court vision, and is one of the worst passers on his own team right now. It's probably a minor issue in the NBA (it can be corrected as he starts to play more within the team concept), but it would definitely help his transition to SF more. To his credit he keeps his turnovers down.

Overall the guy will be a valuable role player in the NBA--he had one of the highest PERs in the EuroLeague despite playing <20 minutes per game, and his combination of aggressiveness, athleticism, and versatile scoring skills will easily endear himself to any team in the league, not to mention that he could be stashed in Europe if a team's roster is full for some reason. I think he's NBA ready, though, and while we don't exactly need a player of his prototype (we don't really need an athletic SF, he's not that great a defender, and he sort of reminds me of Andres Nocioni) he would be useful to any other team. But a potential 2nd round steal if he falls, and I arguably think he's better than Sam Young (who's a supposed 1st round pick)--statistically they're very similar, but Casspi is far younger and I like his youthful aggressiveness over Young's meat-and-potatoes work--I think Casspi is much more potential than Young does.

He's a tough-as-nails player who can score, as shown in that Phoenix game.

Yeah I noticed that as well. There are about a good dozen or so rookies that are impressing thus far. The biggest of which, no surprise here, Dejuan Blair. They better find a way to play that kid in San Antonio.

I like the Manu comparison, I still think Casspi is like an athletic Hedo, we shall see if he ever devlops the Hedo court vision though. But he is going to be a baller in this league.

So far he appears to be an active defensive player, along with rebounding at an astounding rate for a SF. I don't know if he can keep up the rebounding, but our perimiter defense was absolutely horrible last year. So anyone that can help in that area gets my support. Maybe, just maybe we got lucky for once..

This is what I said about Casspi pre-draft:

I remember when you posted this, and I agreed with it. I believe I wanted either Young or Casspi with our second first round pick.. I'll admit to leaning toward Young, simply because I'd seen him play more. I still think that young is going to be a good player, but I'm impressed with Casspi so far, and I'll admit that I think he has a higher ceiling than Young. My biggest knock on Young was his age. I believe he was around 24 years old at graduation.

I also compared him to a taller version of Ginobili, and I think I'll stick with that one. Hedo was never as active as Casspi is. The guy is all over the court. His height and build may make him look like Hedo, but his style of play is very similar to Ginobili.

another strong game.. man this guy can fill up the stat sheet. he reminds me of kirilenko more then ginobili.

I don't think Omri is any near Ginobili, Omri is a forward, in his youth he played even as PG but all his professional career (he started to play pro at 17 or even earlier) he played as a small forward, he had a very good 3 point percentage but he doesn't shoot a lot from the three, in Israel/Europe he dunked a lot and used he's speed to penetrate, in the NBA he'll have to shoot more from the three cause the guys in the paint are much stronger... his main character it's his boldness, he's a good guy but he simply dosn't give a **** and maybe that's what you need in the NBA to succeed, and I wish he will

I'm quite impressed with Omri. He seems pretty comfortable out there. Both our first round picks seem to be fitting into the NBA pretty well for young rooks. 82 games is a long time to go, though. But I do like what I see so far. :)

pretty exciting right now. We need some tough players. And I think Evans Thompson and cassipi can be those guys. And they are all starter material. We've gone finesse players in hawes and martin so it'll be a good mix of players I think. Not to mention we have a nice change of pace PG in sergio. Wouldn't be surprised to see him and evans along with martin at SF for parts of the games this season. One more quality big and I think we will start turning the corner sooner than expected. Just wish I could watch the games.

I hope he starts at SF come opening day, Mason hasn't done much and it would be more fun to watch more than one rookie getting major time this year.

From the little I've seen of him I've loved.

There is no question Omri should start opening night at the 3. Not just because we want to see some new faces, but purely based on the fact hes earned it.

Omri and Mason started for the first time together, and Omri had a much bigger impact on the game then Mason. Only increases the chances that that Omri will be our starting sf sooner rather than later. I want him starting ASAP. He'll have his ups and downs, but he looks like he has a lot of talent, and his 4 years playing euroleague ball should make the transition easier.

I'm gonna have to revise what I said. I think Omri should, and will be, starting on opening day.

For years, for decades, everyone has lamented Kings lack of toughness - physical and mental. With Omri you get it in spades. He's young but with lots of pro basketball experience by age 21. With the arrival of Nocinoi last season and now Evans the Kings have a chance to finally start changing that branded assessment like a permanent ball and chain attached to their wimpish necks. Yes, Omri should start and if he doesn't at least get critical minutes, especially in crunch time.

Omri played well for the 2nd straight game, oddly enough so did nocioni and Greene. I dont know about starting on openning night but he should definitely get minutes... Which is nice to see that we have yet another late 1st rounder that has surpassed expectations.
