Much of that work will entail trade talk. The Celtics do have a valuable commodity in the fifth pick and some young players who have shown promise. But Ainge reiterated that his team’s obvious need for experienced help won’t force him to take a lesser veteran who mainly fills the experience void.

“I will look into that,” said Ainge in regard to trading the pick. “We’ll have some discussion on that. But I always go into the draft process not anticipating that. I mean, trades are tough, and we want to get the best player. If we can get a good veteran player with the draft pick and some sort of package, we’ll certainly explore that. Ideally that would be the good thing for us to do right now I think, but we don’t want to trade away a player that’s going to be a really good player for a veteran just because he’s a veteran. We want talent regardless of their age. But now we know where to put our focus, and everybody knows where everybody stands, so we’ll be able to start those discussions.”

As for the trade you proposed, I would be VERY tempted. VERY VERY tempted.

I don't know if we have anything the Celts want, but one thing for sure, they desperately want to trade that pick for a veteran. They are sick and tired of draft picks that take some years to develop. I would be very, very surprised if the Celts don't make at least one deal during the offseason to really change their roster so they can finally be in the playoff hunt.

If I was the Blazers I would look to move Aldridge for a veteran star type player. SF seems to be their weakest postion. They could really use Artest.

Not me. I want players around Oden's age to develop with him. The last player on earth that Portland wants is Artest.

NO WAY!!! There is no way the top two trade their pics. #1 is a Shaq pick, and #2 is a McGrady pick. You don't trade those two for anything. 3-10 now I can see moving around.

With Green, and Hibbert out though looks like we are getting another SF..

I can't see a player straight up for a draft pick.. BUT I can see us moving to the top 5 w/ a player trade + our pick for their pick, than I can see us drafting a PF.

I think we will be busy trying to put together a young team that will be good a few years down the road..

not gunna happen.. celtics are so high on rondo right now ( for good reason ) plus they got delonte and worthless telfair at pg, i wouldnt be shocked if the celts draft Yi or trade it .. if they do it will be for a big tho.. i can see ratliff and #5 to memphis for gasol .. memphis gets a nice start and celts become a playoff team, im hoping the kings load up on picks this year to.. if they get a SF then i guess thats ok.. lets try and get some athletic people though, trade ron for an athletic big and draft brewer or trade bibby for varajeo and a pick and draft conley..

Not only would they be dumb to do it, but the CBA doesn't allow a player who can exercise an ETO to be traded. Bibby would have to contractually waive his right to his ETO if he were to be traded before the draft, period.
