Officially announced NBA Draft pick order

we just had to lose to the damn clips....didnt we?

we would have had Portland's damn pick if we would have lost against the clips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Us winning or losing the Clipper game had NO relationship whatsoever to Portland winning the draft lottery tonight. None, zip, zero, zilch, nada.

Seattle won't have the Sonics after next season for two reasons. The new ownership group is from Oklahoma City indicating they are likely to relocate the team there (or possibly Las Vegas) starting with 08-09 season and because they cannot get a new arena in the Emerald City have pretty much said see ya - sound familiar.
Only somewhat similar. The taxpayers had already built a baseball stadium and a football stadium in recent years and decided enough was enough. Sacramento has never built or contributed one dime to build a single stadium or arena for Sacramento (They contributed to the Rivercat Stadium after poor little West Sac did what Sacramento couldn't manage to do...put together a deal.)

hard to deny that we would have had that identical record would we had lost. so there is at the very least a small relationship.

Having the record Portland had wouldn't negate the "indian burial ground curse" or the holdover effects of the "Chucky Brown" curse. I personally view it as a plus that we didn't slide all the way to #12.

;)

Atlanta has dithered around for a decade. They just might decide to go for a vet at point guard to get them over the hump. Conley is at least a 3 year project.

I agree here, with a lot of growing youngsters and the trouble they have been having with the PG situation, a veteran like Bibby could be a good fit. I'll have to spend some time on REALGM later though to figure out a realistic trade. I keep wondering if there is one where we could do Bibby + stuff for the number 3 + stuff and keep the 10 pick. Adding Jilan/Wright and Conley in this draft could be a real coo.

Well, at least we didn't move down, which I feared going into this knowing our luck this year. I have confidence we will get a good pick. Petrie has made very good draft choices the last few years.

I hear some people about trading up. It does not make much sense to me, (unless Geoff has a clear eye for someone in particular). I say that it does not make much sense because this draft has a clear #1-2 and then talent separation looks to be much more cloudy from #3 to around 15.

Oh yeah, that's too funny.

No really because if you want a PF that you could build a team around they you need to be in that 3-6 range to have a shot. No chance in hell that Brandan Wright or Al Horford will slide to 10. What you could get at 10 is someone like Noah/Hawes and thats not really a major piece in rebuilding phase. There is a distinct different IMHO.

You Forgot Finley. It's not enough that he's still in the Playoffs, and we didn't even get there, but he blocked us from getting a top two pick. Is it a coinicedence that all this happened right before a Spurs game?

Chad Ford thinks Hibbert to the Kings at #10, and I think that makes a lot of sense. Just look at how valuable Ilgauskas is to the Cavaliers right now, and I think Hibbert is more athletic than he is and just as skilled. I wouldn't be upset if that happened.

Sure it did. If the Kings had lost, they would have split lottery combinations with both Portland and Minnesota. That means that the winning combination that Portland held today COULD have gone to the T-Wolves or the Kings.

And if Vlade hadn't tipped the ball to Robert Horry, the Lakers wouldn't have won that game and the Kings might have been the winners of the WCF in 2002.

Wudda, shudda, cudda...

;)

There's no reason to assume that the winning combination would have been the same had the standings been different. Didn't you see "The Butterfly Effect"?

I'm with VF21. If anything this lottery showed that tanking was stupid. It was all luck of the draw, and come on, even if we had the same record as Portland we're still the Kings and there's no way our luck woudl have been good.

Paul Pierce must be devastated about what happened in the lottery. So maybe the Celtics would be willing to do this:

Ratliff, Green, #5

For

Bibby, Martin

Gives them a starting five of Bibby/Martin/Pierce/Jefferson/Perkins, which is DEFINITELY good enough to challenge in the East.

Kings pick up Horford/Jianlian/B.Wright and pick Conley with #10, with a lineup next year of Conley/Garcia/Green/Horford/Miller

Is it a coincidence that 2 of the 3 teams experiencing arena / relocation issues landed the top 2 picks?

Seattle is probably in the most dire situation (in terms of possible relocation) and Portland isn't far behind Sacramento.

We should've gotten the 3rd pick then...right?

well you can also say that we didn't tank enough. I mean even a top 7 or 8 pick would've been miles better than this.

The good thing is, we didn't slide down to 11th or 12th. The bad thing is (apart from not ending up in the top 3) that at pick 10 we will likely get some like Noah (ie not a major building block).

Hopefully, Petrie breaks his tradition and does a draft day trade that gets us in the 3-5 range to get a legit PF talent.

The combination that was ultimately drawn was among the pool of 106 combinations that the TrailBlazers and T-Wolves split evenly. That combination still would have been drawn regardless of the standings. That is indisputable.

So if the Kings had lost one more game, they would have tied with Portland and Minnesota. The result would have been that rather than having 53 combinations, both the T-Wolves and Trailblazers would have ended up with (at most) 45 combinations. Im simple terms, Portland would have lost 8 of their combinations to the Kings. Could that winning combination have been one of the eight? We'll never know. The point is, the win against the Clippers ultimately cost them an 8 in 53 chance of finding out.

Lastly, I appreciate your attempt at humor, however that Kings / Lakers game has absolutely no correlation to what I'm talking about here. The Kings had 100% control of losing a meaningless game that the Clippers desperately wanted to win. All they had to do was play their young players at the end of the game like every other non-playoff team was doing.

Whatever.

You're way too wrapped up in "what if" or "could have." Bottom line is it didn't happen. You can cry about the spilt milk or you can realize you can't change a thing and move on...

:)

And, one more thing? Who's to say whether or not the RANDOM selection would have been the same if - prior to the whole event - a minor detail had been changed? That's why I mentioned "The Butterfly Effect" - You're trying to mix fate and probability and it doesn't work that way.

Were those numbers fated to be drawn regardless? We'll never know.

We'll see. It all depends on who goes where, but I don't think the difference between 7 and 10 is all that great.

Don't get me wrong, I was all for tanking, but in the end I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference either way. Just look at the Celtics.

Imagine how wonderful Memphis - aka "Sally the Diving Bear" - feels right now.

tough to be a celtics fan right now... i was playin basketball at the gym when one of my friends told me the bad news.. pretty deppressing listening to the radio on the way home to, this was worse than the duncan draft for us, with that being said i think the celts are still in a better situation than the kings, ainge seems to like jianlian and he could turn out to be a nice player..

anyways, nothing to unexpected as a kings fan today... draft should be interesting, i'll bet seatle trades there pick tho

The Celts are my #2 team but there is absolutely no way this is worse than when they failed to land Duncan.

If this happens I will be one happy Kings fan. I try and make it a point not too get too excited or disappointed on draft day, because you never know what you have drafted until a few years after - but, this would make me excited.

Dude, you are right on the mark tonight.
