Bricklayer said:Okay while its getting late in the summer for this sort of thing, nut I was doodling, and just for funsies -- the Scrubalicious Bench and Supersized Six Deep Superstars Consolidation of Talent With A Side Order of More Bad Deals Than You Can Shake A Stick At scenario (based on a number of speculative assumptions):![]()
(also known as the "Who The Hell Are These Guys?" scenario)
Move 1: Boston
Reasoning?: cap flexibility, shooting which they lack, and ability to go a different way next summer for them
Boston trades:
SF - Paul Pierce: $13.8mil, 3yrs remaining (yr 3 = player option)
PF/C - Raef LaFrentz: $10.0mil 4yrs remaining (yr 3 = player option)
Sacto trades:
SF - Peja Stojakovic: $7.6mil, 1yr remaining (basically, yr 2 = player opton + he WILL opt out)
PF/C - Brian Skinner: $5.0mil, 2yrs remaining (+ 3rd yr team option)
PF - Kenny Thomas: $6.1mil, 5yrs remaining
Move 2: Minnesota/Utah
Variation: same as last time I proposed it, but with Bibby instead of Peja, and with the Cassel/Kandiman ending contracts headed to Utah along with Martin and a pick. Also Trenton Hassel is thrown in to us.
Reasoning: Minn gets a new core, and a good playoff level team right out of the bag (Bibby, Wally, Boozer, Miller). Utah gets a salary dump with young players and picks, and sets them up for having a ton of money to spend in free agency next summer.
Sacto gets back:
PF/SF - Kevin Garnett: $18.0mil, 4yrs remaining
OG/SF - Trenton Hassel $4.0mil, 5yrs remaining
Minnesota gets back:
PG - Mike Bibby: $11.5mil, 4yrs remaining
C - Brad Miller: $8.8mil, 5yrs remaining
PF - Carlos Boozer: $11.6mil, 5yrs remaining (5th yr is player option)
Utah gets back:
PG - Sam Cassel: $6.1mil, 1yr remaining
C - Michael Olowakandi: $6.0mil, 1 yr remaining
OG - Kevin Martin: $0.9mil, 2yrs remaining (+ 3rd yr team option)
1st rnd pick
Move 3: San Antonio
Reasoning?: if they apparently offered Rasho for Abdul-Wahad and his two year contract, then Corliss and his similar contract seem pretty much the same thing.
San Antonio trades:
C - Rasho Nesterovic: $6.7mil, 4yr remaining
Sacto trades:
SF/PF - Corliss Williamson: $6.0mil, 2yr remaining
Move 4: Free Agency
Offer the full MLE to Earl Watson. Tell him its his team. Call it a 5 yr deal.
END RESULT:
C - Nesterovic, Age: 29
PF - Garnett, Age: 29
SF - Pierce, Age: 27
OG - Wells, Age: 28
PG - Watson, Age: 26
PF/C - LaFrentz, Age: 29
SF/OG - Hassel, Age: 26
PG - Hart, Age: 27
OG - Cisco, Age: 23
Upside: Obvious. We are right in the mix.
Downside: Every single member of the Top 7 except Bonzi has a big long term deal. No flexibility at all. The centers are also soft, so Garnett has to carry the load.. Need one more big, but money dictates the rest of the roster be filled out by minimum wagers.
that team would be SICK!!! but bibby gone?=
