Official Draft Day Discussion - NO SPOILERS ALLOWED

Mixed feelings.
On one hand, Mudiay could end up being a star.
On the other hand, WCS is possibly the key to Cousins staying.

Ehh, I hate draft night. My heart can't take this **** anymore.

Look, this is all I'm going to say about the pick and then I'll let the majority of you go one celebrating. The only picks I hated more than this one were Jimmer and Spencer Hawes. I hated those picks and people here jumped all over me to say how wrong I was. As it turned out, those were both terrible picks after all. I'm already on record about this but I'll say it again: Emmanuel Mudiay and Stanley Johnson are the two best players in the draft. We just passed on both of them. Cauley-Stein will be decent for us but a DPOY he is not. He's not going to single-handidly fix our defense, and in four years we're still going to be talking about how we can fix the PF position while Mudiay and Johnson are winning awards on other teams.

This is the one draft we couldn't afford to blow and we just blew it. Heaven help us.
I wanted Mudiay but I was under no illusions that the kid would be winning awards. I think WCS has a chance for a long Tyson Chandler like career....he's had significant impact. It's possible that Mudiay AND WCS will be impactful. Notice I didn't put Johnson in there.

It's pretty sad that people can only look at stats. I guarantee that WCS will be a good rebounder in the NBA.

Context, people. Not only did WCS spend much of his time out on the perimeter, he was also playing next to multiple great rebounders throughout his three years at Kentucky. But no, let's look at his stats, ignore all context, and call him a bad rebounder.

He's a role player either way. A good fit next to Cuz, likely very good but a role player nonetheless, just as Chandler, Ibaka and Jordan are.
and Chandler, Ibaka, and Jordan are all guys team trying to win titles scramble to get.

Plus, we now have a guy with the potential to do that before we even consider that every now and then players develop additional skills. What if he's like those guys but develops a really great 15-20 foot shot?

We are gonna get butchered by draft graders. If all goes well we will be a defensive juggernaut, with Cousins developing into a top 10 rim protector last season, and adding WCS who will help on the pick and roll and being that free safety defender.

your argument included people being happy over hawes. that was not the case. most people were bummed over missing noah. i dont remember anyone celebrating hawes. maybe a few saying at least we got a big
A lot of people wanted Noah (myself included). But most people said Hawes was the best player on the board and a decent pick at that position. He had talent, I don't deny that. I didn't want him on the team because I hated his attitude. Nothing I've seen since has made me change my mind.

That rarely happens. Rebounding is one of those things that has a tendency to translate.

And he's going to be playing next to another pretty good rebounder again. :) Maybe 2 if Reggie comes back.

I think this whole thing is moot if karl and DMC can't work things out. If cousins ends up leaving this pick is going to really hurt us. Karl is the huge wildcard.
Don't underestimate the power of Vlade. A) To help them work it out and be adults. or B) To fire Karl if needed.

There is absolutely no way in hell that Vlade trades the greatest center of this young century and future Hall of Famer for a three year rental on an egomaniacal coach, no matter how good that coach is. That is beyond stupid. Great centers, great players, are infinitely harder to come by than great coaches, who you can simply hire.

If it absolutely can't work between them. BYE BYE Karl. That is all. Surely you trust Vlade to understand that right?

So you think he's going to average a rebound every 3 minutes? What's good for you? He averaged one reb every 4 minutes each year he played in college.
