NFL Talk

The Falcons have very quietly put together a nice little season but they lost to Pittsburgh and Philly, still their quality win ranking has them second behind only the Pats. Maybe they are for real but I think they may be in trouble if they run into an offense that is hot.

Well good thing they won't have to face the Pats anytime soon, unless they meet in the big one. I see what you mean though, once the playoffs start, it's anybodys game for the taking. That's whats so beautiful about the NFL playoffs, you just never know which team will show up and which won't.

True, but I think Philly and New Orleans are the obvious teams that can give them trouble in the NFC and it seems plausible they'll have to play both. They play New Orleans this weekend so we'll see how that shakes out. Against winning teams they have a PF/PA ratio of 22/21.9. That's just too slim if either of those teams winds up being the last team with the ball.

I'll hold off judgement until I see them in a playoff game, I'm not going to judge them based on if they beat New Orleans next week or not. Two years ago when they made the playoffs with Matt Ryan as a rookie they laid an egg. This time around he's gotten much better and so has all other fascets of that team. So again, I'm looking forward to seeing who their first opponent is come 2-3 weeks from now.

What happened on that challenge just then? I missed the ruling. I can see how it wasn't ruled a TD but how was it not ruled a catch? Seemed like he had control of the ball to me

Who's genius idea was it to play the freaking Panthers vs Steelers on a Thursday night game? This game is terribly awful to watch and no body should have to start off their NFL weekend with these two teams playing on national TV. SMH.

Wow, what a game! I wasn't expecting that. Buehler chokes on the extra point and it ended up costing the Cowboys big time

Pats clinch homefield which had been a no-brainer for a few weeks now... not bad for a rebuilding year.

And one of the most dangerous teams (Chargers) is officially out. Congrats to the Chefs.

Jets have to win next week to stay in. Not much else could have made this week better for this fan.

Damn Jets got lucky palamalu didn't play last week. That woulda been another loss. Those losers backed into the playoffs. They'll be out in the wildcard round.

Man, that was one hell of a NFC South showdown between Nawlins and ATL. ATL finally loses one at home, Saints aren't going to go down without a fight, they will be a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs. I just hope these two teams meet up in the playoffs, how awesome would a NFC championship game be between these two? Wow!

I sincerely hope this was the last time we'll see Ed Hochuli ref a meaningful game this season.

So I guess that settles the rather silly MVP debate.

Wonder if this season would have turned out any different for Minny if they hadn't entertained Brett all season. Still I bet they are dumb enough to start him next week.

Of course, Minny next game at Detroit is "this week" - meaning in 5 days. Farve's status is still inactive so that would have to change just to have him in uniform. Why did Vick have to shoot his mouth off earlier in the week calling attention to himself by proclaiming he was NFL MVP? What a dunce - of course we sort of knew he was one. Now, he'll probably blame his poor outing tonight on a gimpy leg.

After game tonight I'm thinking Philly is a fluke and overrated Super Bowl pretender. They beat NYG in a fluke comeback, exposing some of the G-Men's reoccuring flaws at the end. Then Eagles turns around to get bounced by Minny at home exposing a lot of weeknesses I suspected they had all along. Eagles offensive line is terrible - most people knew that, made more obvious as Giants had Vick under raps for 3 1/2quarters last week. He just made a couple very late big downfield plays with DeSean Jackson ultimately bailing his team out to win it at the gun - that's only way Eagles ever win games. Sustained drives are not in their vocabulary. Tonight, Philly secondary was atrocious as it's been most of the year. Yes, A. Samuel the big hitter is pretty good but he's barely 5'10" and can be exposed by tall, otherwise somewhat average receivers - as happened tonight. The Philly running game is simply not nearly as good as at least four other NFC real title threats - Atlanta, Nawlins, NY Giants, Chicago. You have to have a reliable running game to go deep in the playoffs. My NFC power rankings at this juncture: New Orleans, Atlanta, NYG, Green Bay/Chicago (tie), then bringing up rear, Philly and St. Louis (assuming those Rams get by now ending up under .500 now matter what Seattle - which is no guarantee).

I think NO is at the top, with Atlanta and GB not far behind. GB has a tough road but if Rodgers is healthy they can beat all the others. Then Chicago, Philly and the NFC West winner (I predict Hawks). Giants will be out, I actully think Tampa is probably more deserving anyways.

Is anyone gonna start one of those NFL playoff pick em contests?

I think I won it 2 or 3 years ago and haven't played since. ;)

That's what you get out of those Philadelphia Eagles. They are just a mixed bag, they are young and inconsistent and it shows at times. Earlier today, I saw Vick was playing with a "bruised hip or groin" or something in the regard so maybe that explains his lack of movement out of the pocket. Also credit the Vikings defense, they showed up last night for sure. I'm just disappointed that they came out and played as flat as they did against a third string QB who really isn't that good of a passer, mobile yes though. New Orleans or Atlanta I feel will come out of the NFC, Green Bay has too many injuries and the Giants are as random as you can be.

The injury happened on one of the first snaps of the game. So either way the Vikings get the credit for it.

I also noticed that a large chunk of Vick's mistakes came at mid-field where the Eagle was painted in the first half. Wonder if he swapped cleats in the second half because even if he was limping he wasn't tripping/slipping as much after halftime.

Did you see how many times Vick overthrew or underthrew his receivers? I mean a lot of his throws were off target.

Yeah, I just meant the game changing plays in the first half all appeared on the painted eagle. I don't know how much the injury affected his throwing, his accuracy had already started to take a hit entering this week and history indicates that he struggles in the cold. There's a million excuses but you gotta give it up to the Vikes pressure defense that was constantly badgering him and forced all the errors.

I've run it before and don't mind running it again, but I tend to forget these things so after the matchups are settled you might want to start the first thread yourself (or PM me) to remind me and I can take it from there.

Ok, I'll PM you when the season ends and the matchups are set. Is it cool if you put the thread together? I forgot how the point system was set up.

Last week of the regular season tomorrow. There are some intriguing match ups to watch. The winner of the Seahawks/Rams game will make the playoffs.

Everyone I talk to/ listen to on the radio/ read on sports web sites are hating on that Seahawks/Rams game, but Im actually pretty excited for it. I know its a terrible division, but I literally havent seen either team play all year. I look forward to checking out Sam Bradford.

The last time the NFC West was the clear cut worst division in the NFL they sent the Cardinals to the SuperBowl - and they probably would have won it going away if Kurt Warner didn't force a pass at the goal line.

Well neither team deserves to be in the playoffs. But they are just fortunate enough to be in the worst division in football so one of them just has to make it. I don't like that but it is what it is.
