NFL Talk

It's after this season, when Vick is a free agent and the Raiders and Jaguars and maybe even the Vikings and number of other teams are offering him a three year contract and the starting job, with no second round pick behind him, that the Eagles might have a problem.
Well yeah, I'm looking at the bigger picture rather than week to week. They dumped a perfectly serviceable vet that had a long history with the team for Kolb who they were convinced is their future. If they win with Vick in the short term that just screws things up more. Look at the Titans, they still can't help themselves and threw Collins back into the game last week. QB controversies are great when its Montana vs. Young. I'm not so sure about Vick vs. Kolb.

Yeah, it's pretty clear that Vick isn't Montana, but Kolb could be Young (quarterback of the future, not necessarily a HOFer), in which case they'll be okay next season. I'm not convinced of that, but they seemed to be when they traded McNabb, which is the only reason why I wonder why they aren't starting him.

I haven't seen anything from Kolb to convince me he was worth jettisoning an established guy over let alone that he is "the future" but that's their call. I'm assuming that he's just still not right in the head and that it isn't a football decision.

@Superman: I agree about the Texans. They def. are exorcising their demons this year, also their doing something else that is out of their character, which is running the ball more than previous years. You never expect Houston to be a running team, but if they get a consistent run game along with that explosive offense, NFL watch out! Their defense is improving as well, they have a lot of talent and skilled players on defense, pass rushers, linebackers, corners, special teams. I am a big fan of the Texans they are my second favorite team, I really hope this is their year to get the ultimate monkey off their back, making the postseason. It's still the Colts division to win, but it doesn't look like it will be a run away like the last couple of years, Titans too might make it interesting, you never know.

As for Vick, good for him. He gets another chance, albeit it's not against top competition, he gets to show off his long lost skills and not worry about being taken out, unless he does very poorly. Also, I hear multiple teams are already calling about Kevin Kolb, I doubt Philly does anything with that anyways. It's funny, they expect Kolb to have a breakout season now that they traded McNabb and what do they do, he goes down and he gets his starting position taken over. For how long? Well that will be the interesting question in the upcoming weeks.

The Jets, you don't know what your gonna get out of them. I feel the main reason they will not win a superbowl this year or any of the upcoming years is because Sanchez. I feel he holds them back, whether it's him or the OC playcalling, who knows. I just don't see Sanchez becoming nothing more than maybe a one or two time pro-bowler in his career (if at all). Now, maybe he will change my mind and if he does, I will gladly admit that I was wrong, as of now, well you just don't know.

The Cowboys struggles are just mind boggling, all the talent/depth talent in the world and they start 0-2. Will that trend break next week? I highly doubt it, the Texans are riding on a cloud of their own right now and I don't think their coming down anytime soon. Romo is going to need protection and a efficient running game to stay in this one. Also, I am looking forward to watching the Jets/Dolphins SNF game, that should be a barn burner. I'm impressed how solid Miami plays defense, they have alot of no name players you haven't heard much of besides Dansby, but do they get the job done or what!

It looks like the Steelers old defense has returned with the return of Troy, atleast based on the first two weeks. Causing turnovers, interceptions, field goals. All with a third string QB, now just imagine til Big Ben comes back, look out for Pittsburgh down the road.

Super excited for Week 3 to get here, I am looking forward to some fun and exciting matchups. Will the Vikes/Cowboys get out of their funk? Stay tuned.

So you have no thoughts about any of the NFL games? Just your dislike for Vick.
For your information, MassachusettsKingsFan, pdxKingsFan and myself are all Pats fan, however, since MassachusettsKingsFan brought up Vick's name, I chose to bring up what Vick has done. So, please don't come here asking if I have any thoughts on an NFL game.

I'm not sure how I never came across this thread before. Anyways, I don't like Vick as a person after that whole scandal, but I have to admit that I love his game on the field. If his arm continues to improve, he's gonna be a threat on every down.

If I'm the Ravens I gotta be a little concerned about Flacco up to this point. 1 TD and 5 INT's ain't gonna cut it. I always thought Flacco was overrated, but looking back, he did do a pretty good job with the receiving corps that he had to work with. Now he's out of excuses since the Ravens WR's (including Todd Heap) are arguably the best in the league top to bottom. He's on my fantasy team (bench) so I've been following him closely, but the Ravens are also one of my favorite teams, so hopefully Flacco will get his act together in the next few weeks. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed aren't getting any younger either, so the window for that defense is slowly closing as well

Why not?

I agree about Baltimore, they have many many weapons, now whether it's on Joe or the OC, well that's the question. I don't find Joe all that either, but he can be a solid QB. How much he improves is up to him. It's still early in the season and some teams take a couple of weeks to find their groove, Baltimore always ends up in the postseason anyways.

I would be ecstatic if the Kansas City Chiefs can head into their bye week 3-0, it's exciting to see how improved their defense is, i just hope they can get some kind of consistency out of the offense. I'm starting to lose patience with Matt Cassel and Todd Haley needs to let Jamaal Charles get more touches, other than that I'm just glad to see some kind of promise come out of this young team so early in the season. Not expecting the playoffs or anything this year but we're already half way to last year's win total lol

KC's defense has def. been impressive, you gotta hand it to them. You don't know many of their defensive players but they produce. Just like no body knows anyone on Miami's defense really except Dansby and maybe Vontae Davis or something. Overall, it should be an interesting matchup with San Fran.

Ok, I'll join in on the fun too.

I think we had the same picks, except the Saints/Falcons game.

Yeah that's true, but that defense ain't what it used to be. A few years ago, the defense alone could win games. Flacco being just "solid" isn't gonna be enough to get them to a Superbowl I don't think.

Speaking of the Superbowl, any early season Superbowl predictions? I'm gonna say Green Bay and Pittsburgh, although I think a surprise team could come out of the AFC, maybe someone like Miami.

As an aside, good to see that Marcus McNeill finally signed his tender and reported to the Chargers camp. He can't play til week 6 but still, good news for me

Absolutely not, he needs to be "elite" for them to sniff the Superbowl. It's very impressive that they have been going to the postseason last couple of years, just get eliminated when they play those offensive powerhouses. Defense can't always win games for you, you need to provide offense as well to even things out.

As for early Superbowl predictions, it's really tough to say right now. I think Pittsburgh is a very dangerous team once Big Ben comes back, that defense just looks sick. I would probably go with Saints/Steelers or Green Bay/Colts.

Colts are a good pick. New England and Pittsburgh always give them the most trouble, and I think both teams are going to be off this year. I'd look to them to come out of the AFC.

NFC is much more wide-open. I think the Packers should be the favorites, as the Saints got a lot of breaks last year and, as the Niners showed, their defense is still very vulnerable. With Brees, however, I would not count them out at all. Seattle could also surprise if Hasselbeck stays healthy.

The homer in me also says that if Alex Smith plays like he did last week for the rest of the season, the Niners will be a serious threat to anyone in the playoffs.

@CaptBill: You know I wanted to mention the Patriots as well, they really could make some noise down the stretch. Also, it wouldn't be out of the question to give an honorable mention to the Houston Texans. They've been knocking on the playoff door for the past two seasons and this year it looks like it might be their year finally, now I'm not saying Superbowl or anything but they def. can make a scary opponent come playoff time with their explosive offense.

Seattle is too young to really do anything and they have a whole new roster almost. The 49ers well they better come out this week and win against KC or they are not going to be in a very pretty situation.

I think my Chargers give the Colts the most trouble to be honest. The Colts haven't beaten them in the playoffs in recent years, but they've beaten them during the regular season. I think Pittsburgh and New England give them trouble mostly due to the January weather in those cities, making home field advantage huge for those teams. Either way, I don't see the Chargers making it out of the divisional round this year. If they make the playoffs at all. They gotta do a lot better on special teams if they have wanna be Superbowl contenders like they should be.

San Diego has to take care of business this week, it's hard to evaluate them right now, they haven't played a good team yet so it's tough to say how they will fare against the top teams. Hurting Vincent Jackson def. hurt them I believe and now Ryan Mathews is out as well. Tolbert, Gates & Co. need to step their game up that much more if they want to make the playoffs.

Yeah. I'm not worried about their offense. It's their defense and more specifically the special teams that I'm worried about. If they can stay healthy, with or without V-Jax they have one of the top offenses in the league, mainly because of Rivers.

Well based on Week 3's games, I have a couple of observations. First off, very impressive win for the Dallas Cowboys, I didn't expect them to man handle the Texans at their stadium like that, so that was very interesting. Second, Jets win back to back division games against two tough teams in the Pats & Dolphins, their offense has been clicking the last two games. Just imagine when Santonio Holmes comes back in Week 5 I believe or so, then they will have all many weapons. Those KC Chiefs are 3-0, who woulda thunk it? That's why you gotta love the NFL, every year there is a surprise team or two and this year it's the Chiefs for sure. I am extremely disappointed in the 49ers, they need a serious makeover at QB, Alex is just too inconsistent and I don't know whether it's their OC or Head coach, but something's gotta give. The Steelers looked sharp once again, but this time on both sides of the ball. They are going to be scary come playoff time. The Vick experiment is working pretty well so far, but I want to see the Eagles face a good team with Vick being a full time starter and see how he produces. Overall, not a bad week of football, it had its share of boring games, but hey it can't be perfect every week. Only one game left to go tomorrow night, should be a good one!

Once Holmes comes back and Revis is healthy, the Jets are gonna be scary good. Shonn Grenne is in a funk and he looked a lot better in the second half, but LT is still doing work, so their running game will always be there. Sanchez is looking more and more comfortable throwing the ball and also has a new favorite target in Keller, which is good news for the Jets wherein they don't have to rely on their running game to attempt to bail them out.

Pittsburgh is just nasty. Once Big Ben comes back and if their defense stay healthy, they WILL be the favorite to win. Opposing teams are focusing on Mendenhall and still can't stop him. When the defense sags off, he will have even more room to run.

How awesome would be a AFC Championship game between the Jets and Steelers! Man, defense defense defense + both teams can score

I'm 10-5 heading into Monday night. Missed on the Niners (thought they'd build on the MNF loss because Alex Smith and Frank Gore looked awesome, but they went backward), Giants (boy do they look bad), Redskins, Chargers, and Dolphins. I have Green Bay tonight. 11-5 wouldn't be bad, would take me to 32-16 on the season. If I were a betting man, I'd be up 50% right now. Of course, my picks aren't against the spread, so...

It's all fun and games, I lost a couple of games myself but I did get my upset pick right with ATL winning over Nawlins.

Well Joe Flacco must be a Kings fan since I called him out this week and he responded pretty well to it, even if it was against the Browns. Good game by the Ravens. The Steelers are the team to beat it looks like...and they're doing all this with a 3rd (4th?) string QB. I think they may stumble in Big Ben's first game or 2, but they should be back on track after that. Good win by the Jets last night without Revis, I think both them and the Dolphins are for real. I DON'T think the Chiefs are for real, but they're playing really well for the time being. The Chargers...no comment. Nice win by the Falcons in OT, but I think it's more of a Saints loss than a Falcons win. Why go for a FG on 1st down with that offense? I understand the OT strategy, but with Brees as your QB I really don't think it was necessary.

And of course very impressive win for the Cowboys, although admittedly I've jumped on the Texans bandwagon. But what I find kind of funny (and unfortunate) is, both the Cowboys and Vikings finally got their 1st win this season, and now any momentum they gained will be nullified since both are on a bye week
