My god, he was probably celebrating his first victory in Sacramento, and got a little drunk. He was released a few hours afterwards, and I am assuming that means nothing bad happened.
Let's fire him because of a little mistake. Or, we should fire Ron Artest now for punching an innocent fan because I have known people beat to death.

I don't think this will or should be his job.
However, he's 40 and he's still this stupid. Will a brush with the courts make him smart? I have doubts. We should start looking for outs.

Yes, DUI is actually a sign of coolness, because I am still in high school and mommy won't like it if I drink, so I'll show her! And I'll show the man too!
As for Crandell and his .08, suspect he got it wrong given that the initial report said it was on the record as .11. But regardless, a DUI = a DUI, and if you think that you should really be driving around at .79 you are nuts as well.

Wow, Insomniacal Fan, sorry to be brutal, but you are a complete idiot. Everybody makes mistakes, and he had a .08. ONLY A .08!!! That is JUST hitting the limit. Nothing happened, no accidents, my god...
If we fired everybody for small mistakes like this, most would be without a job.

I'm not going to claim innocence on this. I've definitely driven when I shouldn't have --- and luckily I've never had issue. Granted, I don't drink heavily and I've never driven when I feel "intoxicated", but it still wasn't a wise move.
It's doubly stupid when you're a public figure. You represent a group of players, an organization, a team and a city. You've got to have more tact.
While drunk driving stats are usually inflated because of how they count a "drinking related" accident -- it's still no laughing matter.
It was wrong of the coach. He's supposed to be the leader. The mentor. The new guy instilling some sense of unity with these guys.
It's just not a smart move in either the legal sense or the professional sense. End of story.
Should he lose his job? No, I don't think so. But, he should be made an example of by the league.

He WAS fired you dolt -- he sat out an entire basketball season for that "innocent" little mistake.
And BTW, that is about the end of calling people idiots or dolts in this thread.

A DUI is NOT "cool", and I am not claiming it is. Are you better for threatening to beat him up? HE WAS AT A .08. We will find out later what the exact details were, and I am expecting what happened to be minor because he was released within hours.

Also, he pretty much was fired ... but he was rehired by another company.
But, if he hit a fan in Sactown ... I'd call for his immediate release from the team.
But, comparing punching a fan to drunk driving is apples and oranges.
The coach made a mistake, should pay the consequences and be put on notice of probation. Given some extra hours of community service. He should be told that if he makes more "boneheaded" decisions, it could cost him his professional job. But, that's it.
It's not a trend at this point.

The mere fact that your concerns are foremost about bleeping basketball says miles.
I do not think he will be fired for this, unless he has done it before.
I do think if he ever does it again, he is gone, instantly, and deserves to be.

Will it help the team? No.
Is it good for the fans? No.
But, sometimes things go above and beyond what's good for the team and fans. The entire world doesn't boil down to what's good for the NBA, Sacramento Kings or the fans.
Is this one of those instances? I don't think so. But, if it happens again, I'd be concerned.

Please don't turn this personal.
My money is that it was a .11. Ron Artest lost millions in salary for attacking a fan, and that was Ron Ron showing restraint. If he'd really beat the snot out of him, then yes, I think he wouldn't be able to get a job in the NBA any more.
But these two offenses have nothing to do with eachother, they are years and thousands of miles apart.

You forgot the most important thing, is it helpful to him? And I think it is NOT helpful to fire him. That would be devastating for him, and I don't believe his life at the moment should be ruined because of this. If he is fired now, does that mean he wont get a DUI again? Of course not. It just seems like its going too far to fire him.

How arent they similar? Artest actually ASSAULTED and HARMED a person. Musselman had a .08 and did not harm anybody, so they are VERY similar. He could have been just fine, and since he is small only a few drinks could cause him to get a little drunk.

Thank you, on both counts.
I looked for a "Welcome" or "Introduce Yourself" thread, but couldn't find one and felt like a "dolt" if I were to make one. So, thanks for the welcome.
All I have to say is that I'm freaking excited for the season to officially start! I can only play 2k7 for so long before I need to see it live!

I agree, it is "going to far" to fire him at this point.
Personally though, I don't care about what's "helpful" for him. He didn't think about it when he chose to get in the car and drove.
There's an old saying that goes: "You make your own bed."
Flip it around and let's say he does get in an accident and hurts someone or worse, kills them. Does he get fired? He was the same intoxication level, he just happened to hit someone. He's jailed and going to do prison time, regardless of whether the alcohol caused the accident. Think about that for a minute.
He made that bed when he sat in the car and took it out of park.
