The more I look at this it seems like its about 2014 and stock piling assets for possible trades.
Carl Landry at $7 million a year is not a trade asset. Monta Ellis at $10 or $11 million a year is not a trade asset. Vasquez is a trade asset at the deadline only because he (like Jimmer, IT and Patterson) is an ending contract.

You stockpile young, inexpensive players with potential as trade assets. Not free agents that no one else wanted on the open market.

I beg to differ both Carl and Monta have value...but I am just not sure where they fit with our team.

On a positive note we do have a very active front office. Which is fresh a ir from years past.

I know you're trying to put a positive spin on things but honestly I'd have been happier with drafting McLemore and McCallum and resigning Evans than the offseason we're currently experiencing.

Wonder if it will be a S&T in order to offload some of our salaries? Maybe getting rid of MT (because I have no idea where he will fit with this new lineup).

That would give us more cap space than just unloading Salmons and signing Ellis outright. I do NOT want this deal to happen, but if it does have to happen I would want to at least unload some of the guards we have...

We have to look into if it's a S&T, maybe others are involved? Anyone have any idea who it could be if there is another player? Or perhaps a 3 team deal?

Having value is different from being a good trade asset. Can Landry play? Sure. He'd be a nice option for a contending team to add some inside scoring off the bench. I'm not an Ellis fan at all, but he does score. So yes, they are NBA players with value. But that's different from saying that other teams will be looking at them as pieces they want to trade for. They are already in their prime years and thus don't have potential to gamble on, they are expensive on their current contracts and they are both undersized scorers who don't offer a lot else. Landry at least is rugged and presumably a good locker room guy. Mark Jackson pretty much said flat out that trading Ellis improved the culture even with Bogut not able to play.

The CAPROOM that both guys ate up would be a more valuable trade asset to other teams.

I wonder if the Bucks would consider throwing Ilyasova in a sign & trade......either way, I don't want an Ellis deal happening either

This whole scenario is baffling to me. Evans is too expensive at 11 million, but Monta, whose skillset is duplicative with 3 of our current crop of guards, is a good get at $12 million? I'd rather have Thornton if we're talking overpaid undersized gunny guards.

Now, if we offload Fredette and Hayes, that makes it slightly easier to take, but we're replacing two people who don't have a spot on our roster with another guy who doesn't have a spot on our roster. How do you run a Vasquez, Ellis, McLemore backcourt? Who is the 3?

This stinks of desperation from the FO trying to show relevance by bringing in a second-tier offensive talent and ignoring/exacerbating the defensive holes in our roster.

Now, if it turns out that we get Larry Sanders AND Monta Ellis, I'll shut the hell up.

Edited to add: SI rumor is that they are shopping Fredette to Cleveland. Why would Cleveland be interested in Jimmer. They already have a no-defense gunner in Kyrie.

I like you a lot more when I agree with you :p
Ha. Perhaps PDA leaked this rumor to unite KF.com once again? Nothing like the threat of Monta Ellis to bring us all together :)

I can see a scenario where this makes sense. Despite my hatred for Monta, the dude would be an easy 6 MOY candidate if he was played in that role. So if we cleared out our junk+ added a starting SF+not pay Monta over $8mil and keep him in a 6th man role, then this makes sense.

But damn, PDA would have to be an absolute wizard to pull that off. And I dont think any GM would have that kind of pull

Meanwhile, Hawks said to be "closing in" on deal with Monta Ellis. Also, Mavs plan to make pitch to Andrew Bynum.

I'm pretty sure they don't plan to give him the starting PG spot...

Anyways, I don't want to comment about Monta until it's official. It's so frustrating right now. I just hope there's something else coming our way, something like Udoh, or Henson, or Ilyasova. But I have little faith this will happen.

Please God, let this guy be right at least once in his life! Just this time!!!
