Don't bother about the Hayes and Thorton S&T. Some guy from Crown Downtown made up a scenario:

@dampania: MT & Hayes for Monta
Salmons & PPat for Deng

GIT ER DUN

PG: Vasquez, IT
SG: Ellis, McLemore
SF: Deng, Outlaw
PF: JT, Landry
C: Cuz, Cole
Well I'll have whatever that guy is smoking

Yet there are also fresh rumbles that Sacramento is trying to muscle into the Monta-Stakes and challenge Atlanta's presumed edge for Ellis

please tell me this is a joke??? how can anyone defend getting monta ellis???? i wanna see people defend pda after this one

Just saw a few different people saying Hayes and Thornton in a S&T for Monta, nobody with credibility. I was just thrilled that Monta wouldn't be QUITE so painful if it meant dumping Hayes' and Thornton's salaries. ;)

Feels like a Vivek/Mullins preference, if true.

This is a move a wouldn't like, even if I'n willing to wait until we unload some of our guards and PFs. I can't imagine we are going into the season with It, Vasquez, BMC, Thornton, Ellis, Jimmer and Patterson, Thomson, Hayes and Landry. No way.

The only thing I want to say, is that if we sign him, it has to be a cheap contract. Why would he come here? Because nobody else wants him. So, why overpaying? Offer a 5 million contract, and if he doesn't have any other offers he will take it, happy or not. There's no point in paying him 10+ million if he doesn't have offers on the table.

I dunno, as much as I DON'T want Monta, if they can get rid of some salaries of worthless pieces and Monta is simply a replacement for those aforementioned pieces and it's short term, I'm not so sure it's a horrible idea. Signing Monta outright with NO S&Ts? HORRIBLE IDEA !!!!

At some point, we're going to have to actually bring in people that fit needs rather than maybe, kind of, if we squint hard enough they are better than the crap they replace.

i feel like we're being punked or something..? joe lacob sent vivek over here to make the kings suck..so he hired the stupidest gm ever to ruin our team and let our young guard go and then sign monta ellis?? im sorry how can i sleep without having nighmares?? also if they sign him for more than tyreke got...i duno...im in panic mode right now

The last report, also potentially from his agent, had him looking at offers starting at 10M.

I do find this notion funny. There's not much to ruin here in the first place.

However, there's 0 justification for a Monta move unless we're moving every bad contract we have to acquire him. Which seems rather unlikely

If this goes down the FO will have no credibility from my perspective, it will literally be a rudderless ship. This is a rebuilding team. You maintain your flexibility, gain assets, and let your youth develop. This will be for non-basketball reasons, a move to energize the fanbase in their eyes. Which is why I believe there is .0001 to this

Napear has been ridiculing Ellis for the past couple of years, citing the warriors trading him as a reason for their turnaround. Taking into account the low cred, company line, azz kisser he is I wonder what his approach would be if this went down

From marc stein:

"Sources say that the Kings, meanwhile, have been shopping the likes of Jimmer Fredette and Chuck Hayes to the Cavaliers to create the requisite salary-cap room to try to sign Ellis comfortably. Hard to see Cleveland wanting Hayes, whose contract runs through 2014-15 and thus potentially cuts into Cleveland's reserves earmarked for a free-agent run at LeBron James next summer. Fredette's $2.4 million salary is a virtual expiring deal"

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Latest stein info has us trying to send jimmer and Hayes to Cleveland to clear enough cap space to sign Ellis.
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/60995/free-agency-reports-chasing-guards

A lot of this sounds like agents trying to drum up interest in their clients.

HOWEVER.

If we were to dump Chuck and Jimmer + have a deal for a SF lined up for Thornton + Not pay Monta anything over $7-$8mil+ plan to use him as 6th man as a pretty nice upgrade over Thornton. THEN I could get at least understand this signing

That's a hell of a lot of "If's" though. And honestly, anything less than the above would make this a tragically horrible mistake. EVEN then, I still woudn't want Monta. He goes against everything I believe a basketball player should be

I hope this is just our FO leaking out some info, so that the headlines read "New Kings FO looking to spend" around the league. Ellis makes no sense when you just drafted Ben McLemore, unless Malone really really likes Ellis and they plan on trading Thornton, and sign Ellis for 9-10 million. Which would basically be a 2 million or so huge upgrade for your undersized pure scoring SG. Whats clear is that our roster is going to be hugely overhauled come opening day.

I pray I dont wake up tomorrow to news of Monta Ellis to the Kings.
Sigh
if i wake up to us signing monta in the morning, then that's when i officially say eff it and just follow the team blindly without question. stop looking in the personel move forum, stop trying to understand what our front office is doing, stop trying to figure out ways to make the team better and just cheer for whatever is thrown out there. i've tried to fight it and it comes to a point where theres no use. so if this monta rumor becomes a reality then good bye hopes of tyreke,bmc,iggy,JT,dmc...hello GV,bmc, monta, landry, dmc or whatever. i've lived through 17-65, i can cheer for them through this...i hope

YES! Just what is needed, veteran presence with playoff experience, excellent court vision (over 6 assists), superior defense (over 2 steals), proven scorer (over 25pts once), perfect fit with Cousins (had 342334 big guys to work with on previous team), foundation of future and for less $$$ than Iggy, real page turner.....cannot go on anymore, getting sick.

For the love of god NO!

If this is true, these idiots are worse than Maloofs and Petrie in recent years. There is one thing worse than not having the money to spend, it's having the money to spend and spending it unwisely!

We are making one **** up after another this off-season!

Well Atlanta were the most serious suitors for Monta. they now have agreed to a sign and trade with milwalkee Teague for Jennings. So i would guess monta is off their board now. So get ready for a Monta, Mclemore, Vasquez 3 guard rotation. Then a trade of Thornton + JT and maybe IT for a SF

Interesting. I really, really don't get this move and do not like Ellis as a player at all. I would much rather start Thornton at the 2 than deal with Ellis and his attitude (not to mention his glaring offensive inefficiencies) here. The guy's biggest attribute is speed and now we want to offer him a multi-year deal as he sunsets into his 30s and perhaps loses some of his greatest added value? No way. The only way I understand this move at all is if we have another deal lined up involving MT, JT and filler for an SF of some kind. Then a lineup of DMC/Landry/SF/Vasquez/Ellis with Patterson/Salmons/Thomas/McLemore on the bench I guess makes sense but I still don't see it.

What a crazy and bizarre offseason.

the only way i can see a reason is a fail safe for Mclemore if you trade thornton. you don't want your only SG a rookie.
If I have to choose between Monta and Thornton, I'd take Thornton. He is younger, cheaper (I guess), a better 3 point shooter and I believe a better teammate. I took a look at the per 36 minutes stats, and Ellis is only better in APG and FG%. So, for me, Ellis is a big no.
