Mike Bibby Interview

on cold pizza...

Does anyone have a transcript or something?

I'm interested to know what he has to say about this whole thing. I would've watched it but I was stuck in school doing midterms.

I would definitely appreciate it if someone could tell me what he basically said.

Thanks. :)

Said he's spoken to Ron a couple of times since the trade was announced.

Isn't concerned about how Ron conducts himself off the court, only cares about what he does on the court and knows he will play hard every game without question -- seemed especially excited by Ron's level of intensity.

Addressed leadership issues again -- still insists its his team, will remain his team, has been very vocal on court/off court/on the bench especially in the last several games.

Said he'll miss Peja (didn't look terribly convincing, however) and that he is willing to accept the responsibilities associated with being the Kings' longest-term vet.

Mentioned that he wanted to retire a King -- that Sacramento was the team he was most interested in when he was traded by Vancouver and he was very lucky to end up there.

Thought his brother was talking about a video game session when he was first told about Kobe's 81 points -- this came in an extended portion of the interview that was pretty useless, but stood out as somewhat ammusing.

That settles it...he's outta here. ;)

seriously. We were joking about that w/Peja the day his article in the Bee came out and said he wanted to retire a King. I don't think I'll joke about it anymore, it may be more powerful than the curse of SI.:o

The only reason any of those guys will miss Peja is because he's been around so long. Other than that Bibby wants intense good players to. That's why he and Webber were good friends. I can tell you at least Bonzi, Bibby, Corliss and Brad are pretty happy Ron is coming, and won't miss Peja's softness. Most of the team haven't been around that long except for Brad and Bibby, they don't have the time built relationship. I'm sure they want tough players to. Since Francisco, Martin and Hart all love to play tough defense, and respect players who play that way, they probably aren't really sad to see Peja go and Ron come either.

Hmm wait, that means most of the team. Oh yeah I'm sure Kenny won't miss Peja's softness either.

Do you have crystal balls or something?

Right. Without you, we would never really know what Kings players think. Thanks for clarifying. By the way, if you get a chance, I would love to know what is Bibby's favorite colour and is it true that Brad is satanist.

Doc, you're Aileen Voisin of this board.

Wow, the Peja bashing continues. I doubt they all looked down on Peja as much as you indicate.

Regarding softness/toughness.... you consider biby as tough guy?

Yes and no. He has ice water running through his veins = tough. Plays through injuries = tough. Very competitive = tough. Terrible defense = soft. Or more likely given the overall package, lazy and/or stubborn and thinking he doesn't have to do it. Overall package definitely on the tough side, although far from a tough guy. Mentally tough.

No. First of all, you don't know any of these things, you don't know what their relationship with Pedja was. Just because he was soft doesn't mean that they hated him and wanted him to leave. I'm not a huge Pedja fan or anything, but just stop hating on the guy. We don't have to worry about him anymore, he's gone, give him some respect.

couldn't have summed it up better

More like "Show a little class". The guy is gone, and although he wasn't perfect (as if any of us are), he was a key cog in the awesome Kings machine of the past few years. We all owe him a hearty "thank you" for all he's done here.

mike and peja had # 13 on their shoes after D.C.'s trade.. does somebody did something after the peja trade?

Tough guy on defense know. But he has heart and composure in under pressure. That's really why I call peja soft. That man could not handle pressure. I'm telling you though from a guy that played sports, when you play with a certain intensity and you see repeatedly a guy that doesn't you lose respect for him. The same reason Chris Webber indirectly called him out. He lost respect for the guy. He let it go over a few years, and finally got fed up with it. Call me Aileen Voison or whatever. I'm just telling you people will lose respect for a guy like that. Not everyone, but people that play tough. And rightfully so. Peja has some big positives in his game, but his lack of physical and mental toughness, his lack of passion is just mind boggling.

I mean this guy was an above the rim player, breaks his legs, then has to COMPLETELY change his game and become an outside shooter, and is successful in doing so. Now from that you would think a guy would play with an amazing passion. *Buzzer* wrooooong. He doesn't have the heart of a champion, period.

Some of my comments may not be favorable to people on this board, and they may be against the grain, but many people echo my sentiment. That's why you're hearing about 80% of the calls on the local sports shows being in favor of the trade.

Just for clarification: Calls to talk shows are screened. They select who they want to put on the air. I'm not saying they're opting to select more calls in favor of the trade than against it, but it is always possible.

I think the majority of Kings fans are at least willing to give Artest a chance now that he's here but there is a fairly good sized segment that also wishes Peja had NOT been traded.
