the start of a bromance? waive ben tomorrow? you decide. rumor has it that marshon was also shaking his head in disgust on the bench after like mclemore's 7th turnover. what can i say? the man knows basketball.

I think he is a good chance to make the team to be honest. One thing he can do pretty well in this league is score and we do lack bench scoring with the current make up of the team. For a veteran minimum, we could do worse and he can fill in as a back up if ben continues to disappoint!

Defensively, he has issues but Malone keeps saying that you can hide guys in good team defences. Solid cheap insurance provided there are no other red flags that we might not know about!

MarshNik Brooskas

I give the relationship another week. Marshon is too much of a diva for a Studskas like Nik.

Ok...I'm done.

Honestly, I agree. We're going to suck on Defense no matter what and I'd rather have a player on the floor that can score consistently off the bench than a guy who is either hot or cold. After that last SL game, I don't even know how much we can count on ben on D. It appeared to me that Nik actually outplayed him and Marshon's D was about the same.

Ignoring as much as I can the trappings...I thought and will continue to think that if at some point Ben's contract would help bring us some talent/help clear a frontcourt player, that Brooks would make every bit as much sense just as a fill in backup SG.

I have a theory about Ben's first SL game this year and I hope I'm right. I heard Coach Malone talk about how he thought Ben was trying to prove something. Like he was pushing too hard to score instead of just making a play for his teammates.

My theory is simple: Nik lit it up in the scrimmage against Toronto (does anyone know what happened outside those highlights?) and has been killing it in practices. Ben may have been doing well, but watching the domination made him push too hard (knowing his starting position is on the line) and he forgot basically everything in practice. I mean, we saw how good the team looked in the first half. Ben hit a nice shot, I believe, but it was off an assist from Nik. Going into halftime, I think we could all see who was playing better. I think the 2nd half hit and Ben decided to just go all out for himself once Nik was out of the game...which is kinda what he did. The team wasn't the same after.

Now, I say all this knowing full well it's probably B.S., but I really really hope he turns it around. We need scoring off the bench and I don't care if it's Nik or Ben. But whoever is on the bench is going to be counted on.

Brooks can do basically everything at a higher level than Ben, and though I've not watched a lot of him I bet his D is probably a wash.

Ben was one of the most narcoleptic defenders I've ever seen last season.

I hope Ben throws up 25-5-5 game today haha. I think we all agree Ben sucks, plain and simple, but he like all young guys deserves at least two seasons before we begin final assesments. My problem with him is that he seems to have the IQ of a middle school'er in a grown man's league. If he ever gets it, it will be years down the road imo.

Only problem with waiting 2 years is that by then, no one wants our garbage. Heck, no one wants him now. Might as well wait it's not like his value can go down much more. I agree about the IQ thing. He is too concerned about headphones and looking good and it translates on the court. I am calling it right now that Nik is the starter opening day.

Any praise for a rookie playing his first unofficial game means that he did something right (even if Brooks is trying to play the good teammate card and get on the team). However, it's not like he is lying. For Brooks I am actually hoping he makes it. We can get him super cheap and we definitely need scoring off the bench now.

There's no reason that Brooks' defense can't improve. He has plenty of physical skills to get a decent job done,...may just not have had the proper defensive coaching up until this point. Keep in mind that he played for Mike D'antoni last season, which generally doesn't help any young players defense.

I think he makes the team and does some positive things for us this year

The Kings need to find a SL gem and it might as well be Brooks. In the first game he was as effective as anyone not named Staukas or Acy.

Lets hope Staukas play causes the other young Kings to play some team ball. I'm tired of all the one on one.

Brooks has been regularly called one of the worst defenders in the nba and was called out repeatedly by teammates for not improving it. He also is a black hole. Pass.

And that's just how bad Ben was. Anyone with anything approaching nba ability looks amazing at this point.

Agree that your call is what I hope for. I hope it is because Nik can handle the job and be a positive contributor rather tha just being better than Ben. I hate to see Nik's start in the NBA be hurt because of such an early donning the mantle of a starter.

Nik has some PG skills and as Collison isn't a super whiz at sharing the ball, the two might be a decent temporary solution as a back court. We are still missing a real live PG who shares and a rim protector. I'm upbeat as to the future of this team.

As to burdening Nik with the starter's role so early ..... I think he's a very mature guy and can handle it. Such an opinion may be a huge reach. :)

Agreed. Stauskas I think does have some off-guard play-maker skills that I think can make up for lack of a true distributing PG. I'm sure he'll have his ups and downs but he appears to be much more refined and ready for the next level then Ben was. I do think Stauskas in time will develop into an adequate defender too especially in terms of team defense. His basketball IQ and feel for the game is pretty high which will makeup somewhat for lack of foot speed.

Collison I think is fine for short term but I'm sure management would admit that he's not long term solution at PG. Maybe next year's draft or some kind of trade for that.

And at this point thats an upgrade on Ben.

but lets see how Ben reacts in the next SL game.
