There will be a crop of good players to choose from. At the end of the day it comes down to Geoff Petrie and his scouting personnel's ability to judge talent and how it fits into future plans.
In that 2003 draft Josh Howard lasted until the 29th pick! David West was 18. Luke Walton was a 2nd round pick.

This sucks but then again what did we expect. Its the Kings luck after all.
Even if we had the worst record in the league we woudl still get 4th or 5th pick. Thats just our luck.
Hopefully we can make some trades to improve us and hopefully there is a slider to us who turns out to be a steal of the draft.

Yes and no. We COULD get lucky and beat the odds and have our one lnely ball drawn 1-3 and would then get that respective pick. OR a team below us could get lucky and get drawn for them in which case we could DROP! In the words of Dirty Harry "Do you feel lucky?" Given the Kings luck track record they better have a few 1-13 options drawn up or better yet work out a trade up deal (not going to happen).
It astounds me that people would think something like that. I had a lot of problems with Eric Musselman's inability to get the Kings to win, but I cannot even think of ONE incident that would lead me to believe he would do something so juvenile and petty.

If you buy into the notion that the draft is rigged, then, considering that Stern wants the Kings to stay in Sacramento, we might get the top pick, which would create some buzz and more support for the team, leading to an arena deal.

I didn't mean that seriously. It was obvious that he tried to win to save his job. I just really didn't like what he did with the Kings.
At least Golden State a neighbor of ours just up the road is in the playoffs and making it very hard on Dallas. That's nice to see. Also the Lakers are getting pushed around by the Suns. Yeah, those Clips didn't show up and sure went down like wimps at the end. They not only screwed themselves out of noting making the playoffs, but also us out of a better pick in the draft. We tried to lose on their court and they wouldn't let us!

If we don't get the 1,2, or 3 pick then we will pick 10th. I think that's how it works although I could be wrong.

Unless a team above us gets one of the top 3 picks than we will move back a space. That probally wont happen though.

Correct. That's the way it's been for a while, the current system dates from 1990, with the last adjustments made in '95.

Long time -- the lottery is really basically just for spots #1-#3, then everybody else files in after that according to their record. Was why that last Clippers "win" hurt us so much -- odds were still small that we were going to get #1-#3, but it would have largely assured us a spot in the top 8.

I think there is a strong possibility that Splitter might be the 10th pick of the draft. I look at it like this… Petrie has been well informed on euro players (Peja,Hedo,M.Evans,Songlia) Petrie will no doubt stop to see this man on his journey to europe. With FRESH MEMORIES of SAR starting at Center and Kenny Thomas as our starting PF, and Brad well i can stop there. Our front court is are most pressing issue other than dealing Artest,Bibby, and cross your fingers Brad or Thomas. So although we cant rule out Petrie drafting another SF/SG or a PG. I really think C/PF is what we will end up wit.Truth is were too far back to get a solid big from the college ranks this year. Hence the euro trip. We need a quality balanced big with shot blocking ability and Splitter is the man. (im not saying hes Big Ben)
The more you look into it the more it makes sense. He’s Quick, he’s got an NBA ready body but obviously could add some more, his def is ahead of his offense and his offense is coming around.
Would you rather take a chance on Roy Hibbert or Hawes ? I think these to guys are not complete players. Hawes is a younger Brad Miller and Hibbert is a poor poor poor mans Oden. Spitter is probably close to a more offensively talented Biedrins and Splitter is still very young and known to learn fast.
Splitter has wanted to play in the US since 2004 and has flirted with the draft since then. He only has pulled out because of the failure of a NBA team to promise a lottery pick to him, and of course the buy out is part of that. I could be wrong but have read that his buyout is less than a mil. but even if its higher i could see the Maloofs opening up the wallet here if Petrie forces the issue and makes Splitter out to be a steal.

And yet all of those guys probably have a higher high end than Splitter (as well as likely a lower low end). Could very well be one of those tests of how safe Geoff wants to play it. Still think the way to go might be to trade up and get a guy we really want rather than settle for #10 and do the passive "best player available" bit again.

no chance... im sorry but Hibbert could be the classic big slow bust. and im sorry but Hawes? his stock is going down. Im pretty sure all the NBA teams are catching on that for your last line of defense of the basket a offense minded Center is Crap. That ship has sailed. If you are 7ft tall and cant block shots go play horse for money somewhere. i dont want anyone compaired to Brad Miller. I would love to have Golden states Biedrins and Splitter is more talented... hmm

You do realize that Splitter does not block shots either, right?
Splitter is often compared to PJ Brown. That's nice. Solid. But not hard to imagine more high end than.
One thing I don't get is people look at Hibbert and say "he's big and kinda slow and he'll never succeed" but they don't consider the fact he can block shots and he has an excellent post game. You slow down teams like the Warriors and Suns by posting them up and getting high percentage shots so they have to inbound it instead of running off a rebound and that takes time.
