Rockets current brand of basketball is so ugly. They have some promising players but as a collective - no thanks.
Something really is up. They're young, but they have an insane amount of high draft capital on this team:

Jalen Green-2nd overall
Jabari Smith-3rd overall
Alperen Sengun-16th overall
Tari Eason-17th overall
Usman Garuba-23rd overall
Josh Christopher-24th overall
Kevin Porter-30th overall
Bruno Fernando-34th overall

Not even including Kenyon Martin at 52nd and JaSean Tate being a huge undrafted win.

They shouldn't suck as bad as they do. Garuba, Fernando and Christopher are probably busts, but I think Green, Smith, Sengun, Eason and Porter can all really play. Martin and Tate should be good role player types. They're playing like a team that shipped all its vets away and is having to play Beno Udrih equivalent* major minutes. They should be one of the league's ascending teams

If they land Wembanyama and he's legit, Green/Wemby is going to do some serious damage at some point. Green has to the tools to be insane on pick and roll.

Yeah I think I'd hold onto Green, Smith, Sengun and flip everything else. Start bringing in some complimentary veteran role players to expand those guys game. The 23 and under team is really fun to build in 2K, but in real life, you get a super undisciplined team with no structure and everyone thinking they're the man.

Hard pass on Jalen Green for me. I liked him coming into the draft but he’s a complainer, a me first player, and has one of the worst shot selections in the league. He reminds me of Ricky Davis from back in the day.

Crazy stuff. If season ended today we would have homecourt for at least the first series!
What's even more crazy is that we can, very legitimately, be a top 3 team in the Western Conference once all of the smoke settles.

But, let's not get too ahead of ourselves, and just soak these wins as they come for us. I'll take any seed that sees us play basketball after the final buzzer goes off in game 82.

I can't believe I've been watching basketball long enough that playing two years of college basketball is now considered staying an extra year!
My second job out of college I shared an office with a UNC guy and I think that was the year the first Duke player left early. Not sure but I think Bibby also came out that year and he was one of if not the first players Lute didn’t graduate.

Odd game. We didn’t have any offense outside of threes and Sabonis bully ball and defense was just ok with lapses on the glass. Really, Houston just got hot at the right time or the game would have been over much sooner. It seems like Lyles and Metu have settled into their roles for now. Lyles has been outstanding all season with the exception of a short stretch a few games ago.
Bench with another positive split in that new KZ-Lyles-Metu frontline:

KZ: 9 minutes, +7
Metu: 8 minutes: +4
Davion: 13 minutes: +6
Monk: 20 minutes: +1

Not as fair to include Trey fully since he got a lot more burn than he normally would and closed when we went on a huge push at the end of the game. But very encouraging if that grouping can start to develop some chemistry and help make the bench an asset again.

is this the greatest KF post ever…..gotta be top 10! BEAM IS LIT (like the drunk/stoned/possible alien guy)

my Buddy is a huge rockets fan and he always talks about how they have a lot of the same type of players. Jalen is Uber talented but can’t pass or play defense and Is pretty wild on offense. Sengun is great but is limited defensively and doesn’t fit the team. Porter is who he is. They need to consolidate their talent and add a few vets next year to help transition them to competitive basketball. The pundits don’t like Silas as coach either
I kinda feel bad for Jalen. He's not playing with much structure on that team. They're forcing a 2nd year player to be the GUY on a team who doesn't have a true PG or many vets. They only have 4 players over 25-years-old...and two of them are Garrison Matthews and Jae'sean Tate who don't much NBA experience.

It'll be really interesting to see how he develops. Uber talented player, but they're throwing him out to the sharks.

It's great to see the Kings up there in the standings. But there is no breathing room here...if you're on a losing streak, you will drop out of top 8. I feel the Kings should have won even more in some of those disappointed losses. So, for now....they're just trying to build a cushion of lead in case they fall. They should beat these Rockets...they're not good road team. Beat teams that you supposed to beat...
