[Game] Kings vs Jazz 2/28/12

Thornton basically bailed out Tyreke. Reke cold off bench comes into lane and gets his shot blocked out of bounds - no big deal I suppose since Kings kept the possession. Then on next possession Evans comes down and decides to jack a 3 from 3 feet back of the line - what?! Meanwhile, Kings more or less road Cuz down the stretch plus getting two clutch FTs from 88% shooter from the line Mr. Thornton.

Just an overall solid team win. Big Cuz/Thornton/IT/JT all played great tonight and Salmons/Garcia and Hayes all had their moments off the bench. Even Jimmer got it going at the end of his 8 minute stint. It's great to see these guys starting to play like a team

I cannot believe I am saying this.. but unless Tyreke improves his decision making.. he definitely is not the guy we need. I like Tyreke and think he is one heck of a talent, but its year 3. Some improvements would be nice, but he is completely unchanged and that worries me to an incredibly large extent. I am hoping he changes something, because it is getting annoying watching him shoot and miss. He has quite a few moments this season when in crunch time he has been a liability. Step it up man, we all know you have the talent. Now put in the work already.

Also of note, our bench sucks. Big time. Hickson and Hayes have the touch of a mason around the hoop.

Yeah IT has kind of improved the team playing PG way more than Tyreke did. Tyreke is just too lackadaisical with the ball, and needs to improve his shooting. Going to the rim and finessing difficult shots up and off the backboard isn't really helping.

Errr, not to be dense, but there's no reason for us to let any of the guys go.

I agree, I was never one of those "we need a real PG" people, but we need someone willing to start the offense and keep it flowing. Right now Tyreke is not doing that. He had a solid stretch of a few games where his assists went up and he was really allowing the offense to flow well, and now it is a regression. IT is the reason for the increased assists and improved flow. Tyreke.. is just disappointing right now, not incredibly, but just seems to lack the bball IQ. Shame

Yeah I don't want to trade him yet but he's not really untouchable anymore either IMO. I would like to see him improve as a wing scorer and a shooter, and add a post game and a mid range game. He doesn't have those skills yet.

I'm not really a super Reke defender or anything but his overall team play has grown by leaps and bounds since Smart took over.

Kingsfans always find a way to look for the goat in every game even if we win.

Why can't just celebrate and not put the hate on Reke.

Reke has been an awesome professional and you even didn't see this guy pouting for being moved around several positions for PG-SG-SF. How many guys in the NBA gets respected to being able to play three wing positions and still be a threat in each spot?

^This. Unfortunately, Kings fans always need to blame something on someone. Sit back. Relax. Enjoy a win!

That I agree with. I just want the guy to do well, and there is not a single person on this board that thinks he is the best he can be right now. I remember his rookie year I went to sleep thinking about how incredible one of his games were. Something is just off, and it seems to be mental. If he puts the work in, he can be truly great, but as of right now nothing is happening. That is where my disappointment lies.

He can't make the offense flow because he no longer has the ball to do it. Simple enough concept really. Isiah is very ball dominant. Now if we can pry it out of his hands long enoguh to get both he and Reke going at the same time -- an art which Beno had somewhat mastered in the past, then we are better off. If we instead gain Isiah and lose Reke, we are no better off.

Very intriguing question.

If it is a choice between:
* IT running the show in crunchtime, the offense working and winning regularly (but icing out Tyreke and him not getting any better)
or
* Tyreke running the show, having the offense slow to a crawl with many failed offensive possessions in crunchtime and losing regularly (but leaving open the possibility of Tyreke somehow getting better)

I'd choose IT.
Tyreke had his chance to run this offense for over 2 years - and he ran it into the ground. If he can't find a way to improve without the ball in his hands as the primary ballhandler, than I'm sorry - the Kings can't afford him learning at the glacial pace he's shown.

The team is more important than Tyreke.

Totally agree. I almost hesitate to read the game threads after a game we've won for that exact reason.

It was a win and wins are good. It was a rockin' night at ARCO and the cap to an incredibly good 48 hours for Kings fans. For me, that's good enough.

:)

Certainly hasn't warranted being picked ahead of Cuz
To this point, nobody has (not even Wall), and given how Cousins has stepped his game up over the last month or so, it might be that nobody ever makes that case. We didn't win the 2010 draft lottery, but it's beginning to look like we might as well have.
