[Game] Kings vs Jazz 2/28/12

At this point, I think it's impossible to say that Tyreke isn't aware that he initiates the offense too slowly.

How many hundreds of failed possessions would it take to convince him?
How many times would the coach have to publicly implore him to bring the ball up quicker, and say "that's something Tyreke needs to work on"?

At this point, we HAVE to assume that Tyreke's slow play initiation is purposeful.
We all know he can read the clock.

The real question is - WHY would Tyreke go against his coach's demands, constantly for years?
He's basically lost the Ballhandler title for this team to IT because of it.

Why would he stubbornly refuse to initiate the offense quicker?
It's what he's comfortable with. I agree sometimes it takes too long for Reke to set up the offense, but he improved transition offense and pushing the ball this year. We saw that quick first pass from him much more frequently, and on the break he was dishing off on a regular basis.

That's not half court sets though. Not many pg's do race the ball up in a half court set anyway. Rose doesn't. DWill doesn't. Parker doesn't. Billups doesn't. Conley doesn't. Westbrook doesn't.

I don't know why you assume its intentional. Nor do I get why you think he's ignored coaches for years. Westy didn't have a freaking offense to set up. That was a huge problem. He started learning Smarts offense, was improving running it, and is now a SF. Smart also said the first day he became coach he wants to run, but no one on this team is in good enough shape to do it. So while you're saying Reke has blown off coaches instructions for years, he's had Smart as a coach for 2 months, and had Westy for 2 years, who not only didn't have an offense to set up as it was based on reads, but also didn't do his part as coach to get the guys in good enough shape to run.

how are the two most ball dominant, best ball handlers going to ever work well together? That's like putting rubio and nash together and telling them to develop chemistry. Each guy needs the ball

They may each need the ball, but they are different about when and how they need the ball. IT is the initiator. Tyreke is much more of the slasher. He's a finisher off of the drive. He does layups or passes when he's in layup territory. He's a lousy initiator of a half court offense. Conversely, I wouldn't want IT make a living as a slasher-finisher. That's certainly not his strength.

I know it's pretty obvious here, but in case it isn't, these are all championship contending teams..(in DWill's case, not so much, unless you rewind to Utah)

just sayin'.

If this is where we want to be in the long term, this is what we need to practice in the short term, and I believe that we were making great progress in this area.
