People made similar arguments about Center being a position of strength for the Kings with Boogie though. "Move him for a couple of good 'team players' because you've still got Willie, Skal, and Kosta there."
The problem with trading the best player on your team is that it rarely works unless it's in a trade for another straight up star or as a part of a bigger rebuild.
The only reason the Boogie trade wasn't a complete disaster was that it made us bad enough that we were high enough in the draft to get an impact player (who we're now trying to trade to initiate the same process yet again).
Trading Fox for Sabonis or Simmons even in its best case scenario bumps us up from a 11-8tth seed to a 9th-6th seed. Now getting one of those guys on the team with Fox and Haliburton and Barnes? That could actually lead to something in the near future. But if you're doing something like trading Fox for RJ Barrett and roster filler and draft assets, that's not going to get us anywhere unless it's in conjunction with more moves as part of a larger teardown.
