[Game] Kings v. Lakers - 12/6/13 - 7 p.m.

i'd rather have ben out there late, win or lose. but he came back in way way too late. i don't get that.

IT did almost nothing in the second half.

Vasquez might be the worst PG in Kings history and Cousins had a turnover meltdown in the final 4. Derrick Williams is a stud.

He's not a good coach...yet. Very poor decision maker. Even MDA makes him look pedestrian.
Actually, Malone has been very positive aside from a few errors. And I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as his philosophy appears correct, what he says in the media isn't BS and holds much truth, and he's balancing learning the roster with showcasing guys for potential trades.

Does he make mistakes, yes, but MDA, who wouldn't know what defense is if it walked into his house and pooped on his kitchen floor is no comparison. There's more similarities between Malone and a young Thibs in his first year in Chicago. Malone doesn't have the same pieces Thibs had though.

It is my one criticism of Malone. Way too much junior high "every gets to play the same minutes" mentality. Partly its out of his hands because there are too many subpar players on the team. But there isn't a ton of benefit to having 9 guys playing in the 20-30 minute range.

EDIT: Except to Rain's point of still potentially showcasing guys to trade

but, but, we're a deep team. right?

Dude... seriously? After watching how Smart "managed" the minutes, I'd be nominating Malone for minute-management Hall of Fame.

This is why you need to maximize IT and Cousins on the court together... When Cousins struggles, we need someone else to turn to. All putting GV did was make us much worse on both ends.
Putting Thomas and Cousins on the court at the same time maximizes neither Thomas nor Cousins.

If we'd just lost to the Jazz, I'd be laughing while disgusted. But this is hated Lakers so I'm seething mad, totally disgusted the way we folded and gave it away tonight.

Well apparently if we would have just played GV and IT together we would have won by 15. Lol I love when people make stuff up

you a kings fan or nah...?

I don't understand how a Kings fan isn't pissed off after this game

Why would I be pissed off? IT played great, which lead to Ben playing better than normal. If IT continues to pass like this it makes him much more valuable to us. Ben showed us a lot more of his potential and looks more comfortable in every facet of his game. Cousins had a bad second half, but the first half he was good. Williams played well with his teammates and looked more like a #2 pick than he did on his last team. Lots of positives coming from the pieces that are most likely a part of our future.

If we're really trying to win,...how Williams doesn't play most of the 4th quarter in these games, is beyond me.

The only conclusion has to be that the win is not the priority. Which we were told before the season that wins wouldn't be the priority. I guess I just didn't think of it from this angle at the time

I agree that Smart was a trainwreck with how/when he managed minutes but if you look over the minute distribution we do have a similar situation with too many guys getting equal time.

Just to be clear, not in any way claiming its as huge an issue as it was with Smart. Just something I'd like to see head in a different direction.

Patrick Patterson was a solid 3rd big, with some starting upside due to his youth.

Takeaway a consistent shot, and he is Darnell Jackson. A nice guy, sucks at nothing, mediocre at everything, and no business in an NBA rotation.

Why does Thornton still play? I cringe when he has the ball. He must have some compromising pictures of Malone.

Or JT. or IT.

I think he notices what JT brings, but feels the need to play PP/Chuck more mins because a) Landry will return and take mins from them and b) he needs to showcase them for potential trades as we're stacked with PF's.

Also, I think he might play MLM more mins, not so much because he deserves them but because he's slowly developing and improving from week to week and knows the experience is very valuable along with b) he needs to showcase MT somewhat for a potential trade.

We know PDA is very active in seeking trades. I don't think it's much of a jump to conclude Malone has been asked to play guys more mins who aren't in the long term plans.

Was what happened better?

Being as what malone did do failed miserably, you're really going to argue a lineup of Williams, IT, GV, Cuz, and McLemore would have been worse?

Malone has this weird fetish now with always attempting to keep the same group that starts the 4th quarter in for the entire quarter. It made sense when the starters gave a poor effort and the subs get you back in the game.....of course they deserve to stay in and finish the job. However he just does this every game now regardless of how well the starters are playing or how badly the reserved are playing. When your starters get you 87 points through 3 quarters and are playing really well........why would you not bring them back when the reserves are playing poorly?

Lets be honest here too, Malone had no intention of brining the starters back tonight but the 4th quarter bench players were so putrid tonight you saw around 3 minutes he finally came to his senses and panicked to get Williams and McLemore back in the game.....of course it was too late. You can't coach like that......when your starters are playing well you get them back in game around 8 or 9 minute mark in 4th.......so they don't cool off and stay in flow of game.

Malone is best coach they've had in a while and a good teacher but he has room for serious improvement when it comes to game management......right now he's pretty bad at. You win games in this leage with your best players......there is no preset rule that starters play 1st and 3rd quarter and reserves play 2nd and 4th. If Malone keeps sticking to that way of substituting expect the losses to keep piling up
