"Kings trying to lure AK from Russia" Jones Tweet

You guys are hilarious. You are ok with giving 5+ million to a 4th big, but not ok with giving AK 10-12 Million on a short 3 year deal to a cornerstone player that literally fills our needs gap?

I got so much **** on this site back when we gave KMart 5yr @ 55Million, saying it was way to much money to give a weak mid range jump shooter who doesn't play any defense, that I literally stopped posting because of it. I got eviscerated, saying we had to pay to keep our own and that he was the Rip Hamilton +. VF21 deleted a bunch of my posts because they weren't positive about the signing.

Now we have the chance to get a real player, and you guys are saying the exact opposite. I really don't get this site sometimes.
Not only that but almost no one seemed to have a problem with the prospect of giving Dalembert similar money. That baffles me. If I have a choice between Dalembert and AK for similar money I'm going with AK 10 times out of 10 and it ain't even close.

Relax, most people would be glad to have AK here. It's only a minority that argue otherwise, and most of them aren't taken seriously on any issues. One of them insists that we should trade Hickson, regardless of the fact that he hasn't even played in a game for us yet!

Not me. I said I'd offer 4/36 today, and offer what he was originally seeking. Yes, it is quite ridiculous how many won't overpay, or what is in their minds overpaying a couple million per year, but then want to throw something like 5M per at Barea, who'd be a 3rd or 4th guard.

Thornton got 4/31. He is much less proven in this league than AK. So, to me, after offering Thornton that contract, not being willing to offer AK 4/36 or 4/40 is QUITE ridiculous. Also, do people realize we're paying Salmons 8M+ this year? And next year. And the year after. AK is worth more than Salmons, easily. He's worth more than Cisco, easily. So either start bitching about Salmons contract, or Ciscos, or ask to amnesty one of them, but AK aint the problem.

Edit: I did not know AK has the same agent Vlade did when he signed for us. That can't hurt.

Having the amnesty is a huge factor as a backup plan to acquire AK because of Salmons contract. If Salmons performs well this season in tandem with AK, then keep him. If he pouts, amnesty his *** next offseason. It will also open up cap space for a new FA or resigning Hickson/JT, or open up future cap for Tyreke in the next year or so for an extension.

I rather they pay AK more per year for 3 years for the added flexibility just due to age/injury history. Get him or Dalembert. Either one is going to help us with a veteran presence, boost the defense, and not demand shots.

*Nothing new on Andrei Kirilenko today. He's definitely still a possibility. The Kings might look to make a roster move to free up more cash to sign Kirilenko.

The Kings could deal a player like Donte' Greene, who is in the last year of his rookie contract, to free up extra money that would go toward signing Kirilenko.

I don't get that. Aren't they way under the salary cap as it is? Heck, we've signed Hayes and resigned Thornton. Where's the dough? Under the Maloof's bed?

Judging by the available numbers of 31 and 21.3 million for Thornton and Hayes it seems like 7 million starting salary with maximum allowed 7.5% annual increases for Marcus and 5 million with 4.5% annual raises for Chuck. Adding 29,9 million for players under contract from last season, Jimmer's should be the same as Paul George's at 2,4 million. Finally Honyecutt and Thomas should add about 1.6 million which brings the number to 45.9 million overall. And the cap is at 58.044 million with 85% floor at 49.3 million.
P.S. Just heard on TV that Kirilenko earns $3.3 million and as was reported give it all to charity.

80% floor this year, 85% next year and 90% the year after, so the minimum figure for this year is $46.435 million

Kirilenko is going to play against Panathinaikos in few minutes, maybe this will be his last game with CKSA during this season. I hope he just wanted play this game against the former Euroleague champions before leave his teammates.

EDIT. He's not playing, he's still out injured.

So... is the CKSA season over?

CSKA basically won the group so there's no need to rush Kirilenko whether he's going to stay or not. His attending in suit was reported a few days ago.

No! I mean, this is probably the match between the two best teams in Europe (maybe the next Euroleague Final), so I thought maybe Kirilenko would have played this game before leave Russia for the NBA. Does it make sense?
Yes it does...well at least if you are familiar with the structure of the Euro basketball seasons. You have to understand that to fans Stateside where we have one giant league with one long season leading to one playoffs, the Euro structure of multiple mini- rounds/leagues/levels of competition per each season comes off a little wonky and confusing. :p

Thing is, I could understand Andrei staying a few extra days if he was going to play in a big game, but with such shortened training camps and a rushed season in the NBA this year, him taking extra time just to sti on the bnech in street clothes makes me wonder a bit if he has plans to come over or is enjoying himself too much and is going to take the whole NBA season off to finish up business in Russia.

If he comes back to the NBA and I still think its a big if, then Nets would be front runners with the Russian connection
Gee, I wonder who this leaves as our big free agent signing? There's almost no one left unless Petrie pulls some big Petrie like move and drags some deal out of his backside. Kinda doubt it.

What pisses me off is we have the money to offer more than we have. We can amnesty someone, or not offer 6.5M to JC. Still below the salary floor. If the Maloofs want to spend, now is your chance to show it. Get AK on the phone and bump up that offer, now.

I don't know if you're talking about the Prokhorov connection, or simply the community interests.

Apparently, West Sacramento is 11th on the list of communities with the most residents born in Russia. Granted, it doesn't come close to the heavy Russian population of New York, but still not bad.

AK's asking price was already too steep, this may send it over the edge considering the Nets have NOTHING to show for coming out of this free agency period. They may have to overpay just to get somebody.

Lol Maloofs. Instead of offering Crawford a contract, they should have just increased their offer to AK. If we end up with Crawford, Salmons, Evans, Jimmer, and Thornton, imagine the havoc that will be created when we factor in Westphal's stupid line-ups and crazy rotations.

We will not amnesty anyone. Our fans are broke and cannot afford to pay someone $20+ million over the next 2-3 years to go away when the player in question is slightly productive. And then to turn around and sign someone to $30-$40 million contract over the same period gives them a cost of over at least $50 million.

Our owners are broke and cannot afford it. They would rather keep the player in question, get some production out of him and try and throw him into a trade deal somewhere.

If we had cashed up billionaire as an owner who was prepared to spend what ever it takes to win, you can bet that we would be using the amnesty clause and going after some serious talent. If it was up to me, I would amnesty Salmons or Garcia, re-sign Dalembert, sign AK47 and watch us bust some skulls on our way to the play offs. This way it is clear that owners directive for a run and gun empty type of game plan that will create exciting, high scoring games but get you nowhere in the end because its sexy and will sell tickets. We seem to have a disturbing Don Nelson like fettish for 3+ guard rotation. Don't be surprised if you see Reke play some PF and C this year!

I was referring to the Prokhorov connection where apparently he is buddies with AK47.
