"Kings trying to lure AK from Russia" Jones Tweet

Update from Grant.

We made a very nice offer to AK. Still on the table. AK is taking his time figuring out what he wants to do next, while over in Russia.

If that's correct, he hasn't rejected us, hasn't made up his mind, and I will remain hopeful.

Looks like Petrie was in fact referring to AK in his comments yesterday, not Daly.

*Nothing new on Andrei Kirilenko today. He's definitely still a possibility. The Kings might look to make a roster move to free up more cash to sign Kirilenko.

The Kings could deal a player like Donte' Greene, who is in the last year of his rookie contract, to free up extra money that would go toward signing Kirilenko.

Maybe if you didn't overpay for Hayes you would have that extra money

apparently AK is asking for 3 years $26.5-27 million according to chad ford and another reporter. wonder how close our offer was to that asking price

He asked for 4/40 originally. Everyone balked at it. Now his asking price is what's stated above by steelevt, 3/26.5.

I would offer 4/36 tonight, and go as high as 4/40, his original asking price. He might mean more for this team than most, and I'd offer that knowing I'd have a happy AK47 suiting up for years, and he'd offer a lot to this club.

worse comes to worse...amnesty salmons to clear salary for evans
We wouldn't have to, at least not to sign him. We'll have Tyreke's Bird rights, so we'll be able to exceed the cap. The only reason would be to avoid the luxury tax. Right now, I don't see us getting into the tax region at that point, but I suppose you never know. Right now we should only have about $30M committed to players in the offseason when Tyreke comes up for a raise (via extension or free agency) - that's Cousins, Thornton, Hayes, Salmons and Jimmer. If we throw in a presumed AK47 for $9M, Whiteside, Honeycutt and Thomas at $1M apiece (hypothetically, of course) that would be 9 players for $42M. Even if we resign Hickson at $8M and JT at $6M, that's $56M, and $14M for Tyreke would get us right to the tax threshold. That's not really absolute-necessity-to-amnesty range, especially with the knowledge that Salmons and AK47 would be off the books when we have to pony up for Cousins.

Of course, we'll have to be careful if we get to the point that we have two max contracts on the books (Tyreke and DeMarcus), but right now it doesn't look to me like AK47 on a three year deal would hurt us that badly.

So is AK a lost cause? I thought someone mentiOned Carmichael Dave and how AK turned us down. Why don't we just give him 9-10M? If we make the playoffs, the money would be more then worth it.

Man, our owners are broke. We will probably have the lowest (or bottom 2-3) payrolls in the league again this year and we're trying to figure out how to free up a couple extra million dollars with a throw away trade.

Doesn't mean that's what he will get. If no one offers him that, he will probably drop down to 22-24 for 3 years.
Are you conveniently ignoring the fact that he is very well paid in Russia with CSKA?! Salaries in Europe are after tax which means that his 4-5million Euros in Europe is equivalent of $9-10 million per year deal in the NBA.

As I keep saying Kirilenko is in a unique position here. He is back home, playing in a strong league with an exceptional team getting paid the sort of money that NBA teams might be offering. On top of that top players in Europe such as Kirilenko get other perks from their clubs such as apartment to live in and a new car to drive at absolutely no cost to them

Unlike other FA, Kirilenko does not have to settle for less of no other team meets his demands. He is in a great position and does not have to come back to the NBA at any cost. If a player like Krstic gets those sort of perks from CSKA and a pay packet of 3 million euros per season, then you can bet that perks on Kirilenko's contract are MUCH better. Especially when you consider he is Russia's favourite basketball son.

He has already dropped his asking price. It's quite likely that he would be willing to go a bit lower.

Err....Its called negotiations. In other words you never start with something that you would be happy with. You always ask for more. Like I said, any lower than what is reported and he would be better off staying in Europe as there is no financial incentive to move.

Most players would rather play in the NBA even if it meant less money. I don't care if he is at home playing for his favorite team, it will never be the NBA. I'm not saying he will end up coming to the Kings, but think he will likely end up in the NBA before the season is over.

From Voisin : http://blogs.sacbee.com/sports/kings/archives/2011/12/kirilenko-intri.html

Two different sources told me earlier tonight that former Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko, who is currently under contract with CSKA Moscow (but has an out clause effective for 30 days), would seriously consider signing with the Kings if he returns to the NBA. The catch is that the wiry, athletic Kirilenko, a native of St. Petersburg who would be a wonderful complement to a frontline featuring DeMarcus Cousins and John Salmons, is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to play in his native Russia. Unlike the other NBA players who returned to the United States shortly after the lockout ended, Kirilenko stayed with CSKA. One scenario is that he remains overseas for the shortened season and returns to the NBA next year.
Sounds like Kings made a decent offer to AK but he is torn because he's enjoying playing in Russia...

Russia is home, and he's the conquering hero -- what's not to love?

That said, the Maloofs have to offer to mow his lawn on this one -- its the perfect signing if we could get him. The defensive catalyst. Of course the fact that the Maloofs would probably have to ask to be paid for the lawnmowing might deter his interest.

You guys are hilarious. You are ok with giving 5+ million to a 4th big, but not ok with giving AK 10-12 Million on a short 3 year deal to a cornerstone player that literally fills our needs gap?

I got so much **** on this site back when we gave KMart 5yr @ 55Million, saying it was way to much money to give a weak mid range jump shooter who doesn't play any defense, that I literally stopped posting because of it. I got eviscerated, saying we had to pay to keep our own and that he was the Rip Hamilton +. VF21 deleted a bunch of my posts because they weren't positive about the signing.

Now we have the chance to get a real player, and you guys are saying the exact opposite. I really don't get this site sometimes.
