I'm gonna be at the game, and find that I rely on commentary to tell me who is guarding whom. Upon investigation I find there are a couple of swingmen on each team...does anyone know who is traditionally matched up together when we play Minne?
webber-garnett
miller-kandi man (i think, but kandi isnt playing anyways)
bibby-cassell
doug-spre, hudson
peja-hudson, hoiberg, or schzerbiak (cant spell his name)
thats what you should expect but spre guarded peja last year and shut him down. for webberm miller, and bibby not much should change but you may see spre on bibby, doug or peja.
Hmmm! I could have sworn I read that his suspension was up and he would be available to play tonight. Not sure where I read that though.
Edit: The following line... "The team suspended Olowokandi for the next two games, but he will play tonight."...was in the Kriedler article posted by LMM this morning. Thread title is...Kings, T-wolves will renew acquantances...or something like that.
NOTE: Last year in the Play offs Brad and Webber took turns on KG. I'd expect the same espcialy if Webber picks up quick fouls which is a distinct possiblity. Now for those of you who are about tell me how quick KG is, and that Brad can't gaurd him, go back to last years play offs. Brad hates gaurding the "little guys" who run arround, but once they are in a half court set he did ok, not great but ok, and if allows
Webber to stay in the offense longer.
I remember Brad did a good job on KG last year (and who can forget the hand in the face), and Web did not. But Web is healthier this year.
Isn't it true that KG also plays the 5? If so, when Brad is playing the 4 is it erroneous to assume that Brad will also guard the 4 on the other side at all times? Is that what a halfcourt switch is, when man to man defense switches from guarding one man to another?
Au contraire, albeitrue... Webber did a VERY good job against KG with the exception of one game. In fact, KG even remarked that he was very glad Webber was only playing at about 60%, because he gave him fits and he wouldn't want to have faced him healthy.

Strictlyspeaking yes. Of course it is still common for players to switch eithe rdue to match up or foaul trouble. Brad is not likely to paly at the 4 much if at all this year and not at all tonight, but I could easly see Adelman calling for a switch if Webb gets 2 or 3 fouls in the first half, then switching back in the 3rd or fourth.
Too many fouls can be troublesome for someone who is guarding, say KG, because more effort is needed, I get it, thanx. Are positions for the swingmen who play the 2 or 3 determined, at times, by who they may or may not be guarding?

Yup. That is shy in some situations DC will gaurd the 3, although that usualy creats a miss mathc with Pedja trying to handle a little guy. Given Pedjas improved defense I would not expect to see nearly as amny switchs as in the past.

It will be interesting if to see if Hassell starts tonight; Szczerbiak has started every game this season at SF, but he's clearly not as good a defender as Hassell is. I don't suppose it's enough to hope that Flip Saunders is as fatalistically dedicated to his starting lineup as Mike D'Antoni is?
