Kings acquire Hart from Bobcats

National Basketball Association News Wire

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento Kings acquired guard Jason Hart from the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday in exchange for a future second-round draft choice.

Sacramento also signed free agent guard Ronnie Price to a contract, capping a busy day. Earlier, Sacramento traded point guard Bobby Jackson and center Greg Ostertag to the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Bonzi Wells.

Hart averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds for the Bobcats last season, finishing third in the NBA with a 3.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, said Hart could play solid defense while backing up Mike Bibby next season.

Price, an undrafted free agent from Utah Valley State, impressed the Kings during the Las Vegas summer league last month. Price averaged 24.3 points per game in his senior season.

Jazz taking another hard look at UVSC's Ronnie Price

[font=Georgia,Verdana] A hot local NBA Draft prospect will be back for a second look.
And, no, it's still not Andrew Bogut.
Rather, it's Utah Valley State College guard Ronnie Price whom the Jazz are eyeing with keen interest. Price already has had one workout in front of Jazz scouts and coaches, and on Tuesday the team announced he will be back for another.
Price, who averaged 24.3 points per game against an NCAA Division I schedule this past season, is not a candidate to be chosen when the Jazz use their No. 6 overall pick in the June 28 draft.
Neither, for that matter, is Bogut; the consensus national Player of the Year from the University of Utah is expected to be long gone by the time No. 6 rolls around, either to Milwaukee at No. 1 or to Atlanta at No. 2.
But the UVSC combo guard from Texas could go in the draft's second round, and the Jazz own two selections in that round — along with a second first-rounder, No. 27 overall.
Price, coming off a solid performance at the NBA's annual pre-draft camp in Chicago last week, is scheduled to make his encore audition Friday. He also worked out last month for Jazz brass.
Also set to show their stuff Friday is Seattle high school shooting guard Martell Webster, a potential lottery pick, and two second-round hopefuls, University of Texas-El Paso shooting guard Omar Thomas and UCLA swingman Dijon Thompson.
Like Price, Thompson also will be in for a second look from the Jazz — a sure sign of legitimate interest on Utah's part.
Four other collegians — Luther Head of Illinois, Alabama-Birmingham's Donell Taylor, Ricky Shields of Rutgers and Syracuse's Josh Pace — are scheduled to audition Thursday.
Head is the most highly regarded of that foursome, according to most mock drafts. All are shooting guards, and at this point all are generally considered to be potential second-round selections at best.
Another possible first-round pick from high school, Texas shooting guard CJ Miles, is scheduled to work out for the Jazz next Tuesday, according to HoopsHype.com. NOTE: An ESPN Classic production crew is in town this week to conduct interviews for a one-hour "SportsCentury" show focusing on retired Jazz star Karl Malone. The award-winning biography series profiles well-known sports figures, mainly through the voices of others. The Malone show is scheduled to air in September on ESPN and ESPN Classic.

I don't think we have a huge amount of guards really. I think we had three at each when the season ended:

PG: Bibby-Jackson-House
SG: Mobly-Evans-Martin

As it stands right now:

PG: Bibby-Hart-Price
SG: Wells-Martin-Garcia

Also keep in mind that Price could be sent down to NBA development league if the Kings like him but decide he needs a little more seasoning and can call him back up if an injury were to occur.

Here are a few quotes from draftexpress.com from their coverage of the vegas summer league about Price:

Ronnie Price- Price is finally back after missing the last three games and you can see the difference in the way the Kings look on both ends of the court now that they have such an energetic guy running and guarding the point. He was shooting the ball pretty well in the first half, while also taking charges and diving for loose balls intelligently to make his presence felt on the defensive end. Price is anything but a pure PG, but he has played well enough in his few games here to get an invite to training camp and make teams think twice about keeping him around.

Price was feeling it from outside and did a good job putting the ball in the basket. He handled the ball a bit but didn’t really show much in terms of PG skills in the process. In the 2nd half he made some very nice passes but still struggled at times handling the ball so much. Regardless, a really nice game for Ronnie Price today. He played solid defense, showed the right attitude and didn’t make too many mistakes.

Bolded a few things for emphasis. Defensive minded PG that hustles and still has time to develop better PG skills. Sounds good to me.

And with the rumor of Songalia for Blake, this is a bit odd. I don't want to forshadow anything here, but is Bibby going to be traded for something bigger? I guess we'll find out in time.

Very nice thing to say and to prove we dont have many guards and no one was complaining last year. Although, we did need to get help in teh Center, PF, and rolls so that is quite bad that we are getting like last year.

I KNEW Geoff Petrie would not let us down... the sly devil was playing possum, and when nobody was watching... BAM ... he snags Ronnie Price!

Way to go Geoff - where is your bandwagon so I can get on it?

That blurb also doesn't specify what kind of contract this is. It could be a non-guaranteed training camp/possibly make the team contract.

Well as we keep saying, there is still plenty of time for Petrie to make some moves at C and PF to address our weakness.

Correct, it could (and most likely is) just a contract to get him into camp with the possibility to earn a roster spot. I like what Price could bring to the team though so I hope he gets picked up, if at least to send down to NBA Dev league (which then wouldn't count against our 13 active roster spots I believe).

Maybe the Ronnie Pierce signing is part of Geoff's(sp) plan to package him with some other players to get Carlos Booozer. Hey, you never know.

Yeah, I would suspect its the same situation as with Bluthenal and Minard lastyear -- liked what we saw in summer league, so offered him a non-guaranteed deal. Will still have to earn the roster spot in camp though. But with 14 man rosters he could stick as an emergency 3rd PG, maybe not even on the 12 man roster. Maybe get som NBDL time.

BTW, VERY modest numbers in summer league for us: 31.7min 7.3pts (42% shooting) 2.0rebs 2.0asts. Although I do recall Cruzdude saying he had an impressive game in there somewhere.

Bibby's not being traded and the Kings are not going to get Blake. Neither of those moves make sense given what Petrie has said and done so far. I wouldn't be surprised to see Songaila sign a contract with the Kings soon. I like this signing. It's a mimimum contract most likely so we just picked up an emergency PG/end of the bench type guy. It's not really going to impact the team much, but I like seeing Price make the team after he put in a solid effort in the summer league.

The Sacramento Kings today signed free agent Ronnie Price to a contract, according to Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Price, a 6-2, 190-pound guard, averaged 7.3 ppg (.429 FG%, 3-6 3pt, 1-2 FT), 2.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 31.7 mpg in three games for the Kings during the 2005 Vegas Summer League (VSL).

“Our coaches and staff were impressed with Ronnie’s overall ability as a young point guard in the league,” said Petrie. “He comes in with a lot of scoring ability, along with good size and defensive skills. I think he’ll be an exciting young player for us.”

Price was named NCAA Division I Independents Player of the Year in 2004-05 after averaging 24.3 ppg (.427 FG%, .359 3pt%, .789 FT%), 4.2 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 1.82 spg in 28 games as a senior at Utah Valley State. He would have been ranked third nationally in scoring if Utah Valley State was not a provisional Division I member. Price led the team in scoring in every game except five while tallying 30 points or more eight times.

lol...i cant tell if you're sarcastic or odd. either way that made me chuckle a lil bit.

and whoever said maybe bibby will be traded-well, that seems possible. also he would probably net us the most in a trade. maybe we'll get a legit pf and do a pg by committee, or add a good passing pf so we don't need a play making pg as much. (*cough cough* garnett*cough*)

I liked the stuff I saw from Price in the VSL. He could be a fine 3rd PG for us, and like what I've read of him here. Ultimately though, a few things could turn out of him.

Bibby may be being shopped according to 1140. GOD I HOPE NOT!

Probably just b/c of all the speculation as to why we may be stacking up on PG's in a deal with Wash. for Blake is to happen.

if bibby is being shopped we gonna have problems at the point.... right now theres no one on our team that can take over like bibby.... if bibby is traded its like trading away our chemistry... it will become imbalanced.... who knows what petrie is up to............

Dude, easy now, dont get all desperate. Petrie knows each guy more than all of us combined. He wont shop him for just anyone. Just wait and see. Like the motto of many of us here goes...IN PETRIE WE TRUST. :)
