Why did we get Daniels in the first place??????
I thought it was Price that had the guaranteed contractBricklayer said:You forgot about Sampson -- he was given a guaranteed deal I think, so he's probably already #12. Rest of these guys might just be playing for NBDL contracts.
The influx of maybe-Kings that comes with every preseason could begin with point guard Luis Flores. He has been invited to training camp, beginning Oct. 4.
Flores, a second-year player who was waived by Denver last month, would be the 14th player under contract with the Kings, though his offered deal has no guaranteed money.
Flores will have to fight his way up to No. 13 to be around for the regular season, unless Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie changes his roster plans. Petrie, who could not be reached for comment, has said he wants to keep the roster at 13 players come opening day, while the training camp count can be as high as 20 by league rules.
Flores, who also couldn't be reached but told the Associated Press in August that Toronto and the Kings were interested, showed little last season, playing in just 16 games (15 with Golden State) and averaging 4.8 minutes. But he showed plenty in the Vegas Summer League in July, prompting Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe to say at the time, "He definitely helped himself," and apparently gaining Petrie's notice.
But the Nuggets are overloaded with point guards Andre Miller, Earl Watson and Earl Boykins, making Flores expendable. The Kings are no less stocked at the spot. Behind starter Mike Bibby, new additions Jason Hart (fifth season) and rookie Ronnie Price have contracts that extend beyond this season. Hart is set to make $1.54 million this season, with a player option for $1.68 million in 2006-07, while Price was signed at the league minimum for two seasons.

Where did you come by this list, CruzDude? I ask because it is slightly... uhh... apocryphal... Shareef Abdur-Rahim left Cal. U. in 1990? What was he doing for the six years before he got drafted? Mike Bibby didn't leave Arizona until 2000? I suppose the horror stories about college athletes getting paid must be true, then, because Bibby was making a mint for his play on the court in 1999-00... Kevin Martin didn't graduate until this year? Francisco Garcia is still in school?CruzDude said:Code:Training Camp Roster Sept 24, 2005 33 Shareef Abdur-Rahim PF 6-9, 245 California '90 10 Mike Bibby PG 6-1, 190 Arizona '00 15 Eric Daniels F 6-8, 214 Kentucky 04 33 Anwar Ferguson C 7-0, 205 Arkansas '05 8 Luis Flores PG 6-2, 200 Manhattan 32 Francisco Garcia SG 6-7, 195 Louisville 06 3 Jason Hart PG 6-3, 185 Syracuse '00 45 Lonnie Jones C 7-0, 228 Ball State '02 22 Dan Langhi F 6-11, 220 Vanderbilt '00 23 Kevin Martin SG 6-7, 185 Western Carolina 05 52 Brad Miller C 7-0, 261 Purdue '98 20 Rickey Paulding SG 6-4, 210 Missouri '04 7 Ronnie Price PG 6-2, 190 Utah Valley State ‘05 31 Jamal Sampson PF 6-11, 235 California '02 40 Eric Sandrin F 6-8, 225 Seattle Pacific 54 Brian Skinner C 6-9, 265 Baylor '98 16 Peja Stojakovic SF 6-10, 229 Serbia 9 Kenny Thomas PF 6-7, 245 New Mexico '99 42 Bonzi Wells SG 6-5, 210 Ball State '98 34 Corliss Williamson SF 6-7, 245 Arkansas '96

Probably just me picking nits, but I find it difficult to take a report seriously when it begins with so many obvious errors.
Maybe they see something they really like in PriceBricklayer said:I got the impression Sampson's was guaranteed as well -- in fact seemed more likely than Price's as he was a semi-established NBA player who signed fairly early in the free agent period. Why would he sign a non-guaranteed deal so soon? Price I thought would be the non-guaranteed as an undrafted nobody. Was moderately shocked we gave him a guaranteed deal. Why? How stiff could the competition have been?
Bricklayer said:Ronnie Price 6'2"
Big small school scorer...good athlete + plays defense...6'2" scoring guard will have to transition to true PG in pros. Game may be Eddie Houselike more than A.I.-like -- quick, but lots of outisde shots rather than drives. Tied for second-highest vertical leap at draft combine wiht 39" vert, tied with Gerald Green and an inch better than Hakim Warrick.
Čarolija said:Maybe they see something they really like in Price
I remember reading somewhere (I think it was SacBee when Price signing was announced) that Petrie tried to get a second round draft pick during the draft to pick up Price but couldn't work out a deal. When Price was overlooked, Petrie wasted no time getting in touch with him and offering him a contract. By the sounds of things it looks like GP really likes what he sees otherwise he wouldn't offer him a gauranteed deal that extends beyond this season.
Fair call.Bricklayer said:Okay, but as you recall from last year with Minard, you normally don't even give 2nd round picks guaranteed money, let alone undrafted FAs who haven't even set foot in camp.
Its done I guess (still a little fuzzy) and I hope Geoff's right -- think Price and Flores would seem to be moves trying to dig up a Bobby replacement. But odd maneuver you don't normally see.

The list came from a Bee article and I retyped it into a spreadsheet and copied it into the thread.

Kings113 said:Jamal and Ronnie do have guaranteed contracts right? Or is it where they'll be guaranteed if they're still here by November? Since they're listed on our roster, and from what I've read.. go with one of Lonnie/Anwar, and maybe one of Paulding/Flores/Daniels. Though the latter I think are stretches... I wouldn't mind one of them making it, and would be intrigued.

Kings113 said:Because we need depth and insurance at center (this also includes Stewart or Stepania, or someone else later in October after TC being brought in, as a (not too strong) possibility)? Which is a need. Also a want from me.
When I said this "Since they're listed on our roster, and from what I've read.." I was talking about Sampson and Price's contracts, because that's all I know, and most of us obviously know on that. So those two, aren't certain.
If you mean the guards and Daniels (not including Price here), I said that after about them because I like what I have read on them (and from what I saw of Daniels in VSL, but moreso the info). That's it.
