Kings open on the road...again (09-10 schedule)

I can't believe that there was a bunch of posts where people thought this team was going to be on national TV.. The Kings aren't even close to good enough.. Maybe in a few years but not now.

well we did have the number 4 pick in the draft.... unless we somehow pull of a huge upset like the warriors did in 2007 i dont see us getting any nationally televised games any time soon.

We get 2 games against each Eastern Conference team this year. The only "unbalanced" teams are NO and Utah (two on the road, one at Arco) and Memphis and Denver (two at Arco, one on the road.

We play four games against the Clippers, but the first is February 20th.

They always play Eastern conf home and away. They rotate the 3 games vs a western division each year.

Looks like anyone who has to put up with Laker fans is in for a tough holiday period. Dec. 26, Jan. 1 AND the last game of the season? That has buzz kill written all over it.

On the plus side, the dec 26 is a back to back for the Lakers after they play the Cavs on Christmas. Maybe they overlook the Kings.

Saweet! Now we can blame it on the schedule. If the Kings want to get back in the National coverage line up, they will need to earn it. Until then, expect this.

I remember one year I thought we were unbalanced against an eastern conference team, but I could easily have just missed the second game when looking through the schedule.

For those upset about or a bit disappointed over our lack of National TV games.

Saw a article on ESPN, and the Rockets got officially ZERO national games this year. None.

Sad to be a Rockets fan.

Yep. We're suffering right now, but so are they. It's gonna be a long year for Rockets fans.

true... the rockets have it bad... yao may never be the same, same goes for mcgrady. they are the only team that looks worse than we do on paper....

I suspect we'll get close to a sell-out, even on a Monday. My main problem is logistical. It's difficult for me to get down to Arco on a Monday night...but I will be there. It's not open to debate.

I hope they publicize this and have some great ticket deals. We definitely want the kids to see what Arco looks like full of KINGS fans.

Considering the ongoing rebuilding - does the schedule really matter ? We have to lose all those games sooner or later. As long as they still let us play in the NBA - it is all good,

Ehhh, the Kings arent going to win a ton of games next year anyway. I see alot of tough road trips. Long stretches on the road will accelerate the gelling process. Hopefully we lose enough games to get the lottery balls necessary to win John Wall. Once the 2010-2011 season comes around we'll be one deft move away from becoming an explosive team if said occurences actually take place. Thats about as optimistic of a reality as I can predict.

I am not going to root for us to lose enough games to get the lottery balls necessary ... etc. This season was painful enough. We desperately need to put butts in the seats in Arco and you do that with exciting basketball and the occasional win. John Wall might be nice if everything ends up that we're in a position to get him, but what will be, will be.

My optimistic reality is that I intend to attend games, have a great time with other Kings fans, and hope our young Kings will help feed the long-time symbiotic relationship between the team and the fans that created Arco Thunder in the first place.

GO KINGS!!!

I'm with you on this. I say that we enjoy the season and cheer for the Kings to win as many games as possible. Let the lottery take care of itself. I'm not worried about trying to get John Wall. I would swear that the same conversations were taking place at this time last year about Brandon Jennings and Jrue Holiday.

Not accusing you of comparing all 3 players as fairly equal, but Jennings and holiday cant even see John Wall. He's going to be amazing.

I can see the Kings going worst at 5-5 after the first 10 games which is good. If that looks like homerism to most, so be it. I actually think only San Antonio and Chicago as sure loss game for the Kings.

Go Evans !:D

I'm glad to see that your more optimistic for this coming season. :D

5-5 isnt that bad of a start for the kings....

I'm just sick and tired of the Kings opening on the road for the 6th straight year. Your usually playing that other team's opener and the crowd is just wound up and so is the team.

Why can't the fans here have the pleasure of a home opener? I think the league should alternate years. If you opened on the raod last year, you get to open at home this year. I wrote that to the league last year and I'll send them an angry note again.

I just don't believe schedules are as randomly set as the league says. A couple of years ago I read an article about NBA schedules. One of the things they had was statistics over a few years for the average number of back-to-back games for each team over several years. Was I surprised that the Lakers averaged the fewest back-to-back game? Random my a**.

Interesting...

Looking at this year's schedule, I see a funny correlation between back-to-backs and televised games: almost no teams which have a lot of televised games also have a lot of back-to-backs, but most of the teams with few televised games have a lot of them.

The average number of back-to-backs is about 20, and the average number of televised games is a dozen or so.

Team---------------televised games---------------b2b games

If this is based on coin flips, someone's using a funny coin.

They should just tell him he has a show called "NY Football Giants talk" and never turn on his mic.

Ditto!

Howdy Doody makes no apologies whatsoever for his extreme New York homerism. In fact, he said point blank long ago that he's not a Kings fan. I noticed in past year or so he's tried to back away or deny ever saying what could amount to being tar and fettered and finally run out of town on a rail - YES! Apparently, his idiot employers don't care that he gives short shrift to Sacramento and Northern California teams. Heck, you'd never know that Peaches was even broadcasting from Sac if you listened to his SportsLine show on most occasions. He can gleefully go on for hours about his NY teams with all kinds of in-depth analysis of NY Giants, NY Yankees, even NHL Rangers - all at the expense of "us locals."

That is a statistically significant correlation (Pearson, p = 0.01), which does strongly suggest that it did not arise by chance.

Did you compile the data yourself or did you find it somewhere? It would really only be fair to include the middle ten teams in the analysis.

Yeah, around this time last year when we received last seasons schedule I broke down the stats. The Lakers have had a total of like five 4+ game road trips in the last 20 years compared to the Kings 20+. I can't remember what the exact post was but all I remember is that the Kings get screwed schedule wise probably more than any other team in the league. And Piksi, Yes, I do think the schedule matters. I believe a big part of the game is confidence and momentum, especially for a young team like ours. If you start the season off against a few easy teams and start with a 8 - 2 record for instance you are going to play harder against teams to keep your record good. If you start off 2-8 however your mindset is going to be "we suck, why even try".

Someone else compiled the basic stats involved (which I didn't cite due to possible blogger gripes), but didn't point out the correlation, which I noticed on my own. The middle 10 teams work out as follows:

Team--------------------televised------------------------back-to-backs
Pistons---------------------9-----------------------------------23
76ers------------------------9-----------------------------------20
NYK------------------------10----------------------------------18
GSW-----------------------11----------------------------------20
Hawks---------------------13----------------------------------22
Clippers-------------------13----------------------------------22
Wizards-------------------16----------------------------------21
Hornets--------------------16---------------------------------16
Bulls------------------------18----------------------------------23
Mavs------------------------20---------------------------------20
Average: 20.5

Meanwhile, the Lakers have a nice, cushy, "made for a repeat" schedule. Oh well. Anything that pushes us further into lottery contention is good at this point, right?

:: sighs prayerfully ::

Looks like anyone who has to put up with Laker fans is in for a tough holiday period. Dec. 26, Jan. 1 AND the last game of the season? That has buzz kill written all over it.

Good, then hopefully we can ruin the holidays for LA and get a sneaky end of the season win after they are resting their starters. That is unless we need to lose for a better draft pick. :D

Wasn't trying to compare the 3 players. But Holiday and Jennings were being talked about the exact same way last off season. All I heard was how they were both sure-fire stars that would be top 5 PGs in the NBA.
