Kings need PG and rebounding, but from Where?

Down to one PG now (Beno) who is still getting used to the team and no real PG backup. Sure Cisco and Douby can bring the ball up the court but thats about it PG wise. They need a ball handler, someone whose Ast/TO ratio is >3.0, someone to drive and dish.

Brad has stepped up big time rebounding and so has RonRon but Mikki has not (may not) and Hawes is getting pushed around near the basket and is a year away from big help. Watkins & Williams are not seeing any playing time and neither is KT and SAR. So we have 4 bigs sitting around with Brad and Mikki getting big minutes. Not good this early.

IMHO RonRon is not going anywhere this year or next. And Bibbs may not be back to 100% before trade deadline and Kings need him REAL BAD!!! So he is here for the year and more I bet.

And now with Kevin out at least a month there goes 25ppg out the window. Salmons can make up some but that then leaves only Cisco and Douby as scorers off the bench.

SOOO........ what to do? Don't see any trades happening so that leaves D-League and a hidden gem overseas, and there aren't really any of them anymore. So inhale slowly................ breathe out slowly ............. inhale............ breathe out..................

We have needed a PG and rebounding all season long right? That didn't stop a group of young whipper-snappers from beating SA and Utah recently.

Beno has been a true diamond in the rough for us, and I would expect him to continue to see starting minutes. I would however, let Douby see some time at PG. With Bibby out, this is really the time to be giving Douby more minutes. After all, you don't develop talent on the bench. And with Martin out, Salmons will probably replace him as the starting SG. That means more minutes to spread around. Artest will unfortunately see less time at PF and more time at SF. Garcia will get more minutes as the main bench SG/SF backup. There is an opportunity for Douby, Garcia and Salmons to take the extra PT and to use it.

As for rebounding, well, we are still boned there. I have been waiting for Williams to make his second real appearance of the year. He had one game, a 2nd game of a back-2-back @ PHX where he had 10 boards and a block in 15 minutes. Now I realize that Williams isn't getting much playing time because of his limited skill, but this coaching staff seems to be with it so there is no excuse why they can't make Williams game-ready. Maybe they are and it is just a slow process.

Anyway, you talk about needing a PG and rebounding as if we were competing for a championship. If all the chips fall in our lap, we are still an 8th seed at best. Sure it would be fun to watch, but it would be pretty heartbreaking after another 1st round exit knowing we didn't go deep in the PO's and we didn't get a good draft pick.

With Kevin going out, it will be a prime opportunity for 40 minutes to be spread around to develop Cisco and Garcia. And I would like to see Williams get phased in some minutes. But I absolutely do not want to see us go out and grab another Mikki Moore type player. We should look internally at this point in the season. If someone like Douby steps up, then that would give more pretext to trade Bibby.

Mike Bibby and Kenny Thomas for Jason Kidd

This would give us a hall of fame PG with several good years left, who is leading his team in rebounding! We could pull this off once Bibby is healthy, and if the market dries up for Kidd. He refused to play in last night's Nets game due to a "migraine" but several people were speculating that he was on strike from the team until they trade him or extend his contract.

Giving them Bibby makes the nets younger, and Kenny Thomas could actually get some playing time for the dreadful nets frontcourt. They also replace a veteran PG with a veteran PG, keeping a big 3 in tact.

Kings come up big winners in this trade, but could be beneficial to both teams.

4: Mikki Moore/Justin Williams/Shareef Abdur-Rahim/Daryl Watkins
5: Brad Miller/Spencer Hawes/Mikki Moore

Sure is intriguing. Wonder how many years Jason has left as an all-star type starter? 3? 4? He and Brad together is fascinating: two guys who can get triple-doubles.

But we need a Plan-B. As BawLa indicates it may be Cisco, Douby and Salmons. But guess we should wait at least thru the east coast trip to see if they can get any kind of positive consistency going and wind 3 or 4 on that trip. If they do, then Plan-B is ok. If not then results will show what is needed.

Bibbs and Kevin should both be back mid-January..... I hope.

BTW I think Coach Reggie is doing great job....... so far.

I agree with Bawla that we, for now , should look within. Were not going to win any championships this year anyway. One thing we've discovered is that we are a little bit better than we thought we were. For the most part we've been going with young guys to get it done. That bodes well for a rebuild. It may not take as long as thought to become a factor in the league again.
The emergence of Beno has been a surprise, and may buy us some time at that position, to turn our attention to other needs. Either through free agency or the draft.

As far as Kidd is concerned. I would love to have him, but would he want to come here at his age, and would it hinder the development of Beno? I would rather trade Bibby for youth or draft picks and look to the future.

I know people are kind of thinking out loud here, but there is no sense in any Kidd to Sac talk.

We are lacking the two main things that Kidd wants, which is a contract extension and to be on a title-contending team surrounded by good talent. He is lacking what we need, which is talented players that also happen to be young, preferably at a reasonable price.

Kings out:

Hawes
Udirh

UCLA out:

Collison
Love

Of course neither of the Kings' departees could make the UCLA team, but it would certainly solve the problem of point guard and rebounding. Might have to throw in Artest.

Agreed. We don't have any money to sign a FA anyway, and holding our breath for a trade seems to result only in blacking out. It needs to be solved in the one place where good players are always available for cheap: the draft.
