I'd like to see some lineup tinkering. As good as Buddy has been off the bench (aside from today) maybe it's time to have him start again. Start Davion alongside Fox. Keep the ball in Fox's hands. Stop giving him the Tyreke treatment. Let Hali run the second unit with TD. Whatever we do, it's going to be hard to find something that works when none of our rotation guards can consistently hit a three. That's gotta change eventually, right?
Also, can someone call Joerger and have him teach Walton how to use Buddy?
I thought the Mavs played really well defensively so hats off to them. We had plenty of opportunities to steal this game even though we weren’t shooting well but couldn’t put together a stretch at the end. Cry Baby sealed it with the dagger. I hate these day time games. Going to be tough not to lose the back to back coming up.
Fox took 16 shots for 14 points. 60% from the free throw line. Four assists. How many fast breaks did he lead in this game? When did he show he's the fastest player in the league? When did the Kings make the Mavs play *their* fast pace? Fox looks to do be a shell of himself. I still say that if we had the old good Fox this team would be undefeated.
Fox Buddy Barnes Holmes + Davion or Hali. Seems like our best lineup so far? At least for my eye test
And Buddy does look improved. Im glad we didn’t trade him and like what he’s bringing but him still walking into 3s instead of taking them in rhythm isn’t great. Shot selection and lazy possessions in general continues to be a problem
Problem is that style hasn’t lead to much winning.
Somehow only lost by six despite perhaps the worst shooting night I can ever remember.
I put Fox in the same mold as Westbrook and John Wall. Great athletes and players. Beat you going downhill and with speed. Very hard to have that type of player be your center piece, because it's all improvisation. Four players wait to see if he can create a shot for himself. When he can't, it's a scramble against the shot clock to score. These players are one dimensional.
This is the reason Luke takes the ball out of Fox’s hands. Luke wants to be able to run half court sets. But Fox isn't built for spot up shooting, or playing east to west. Luke either has to completely commit to Fox and his style, or you have to trade him.
at what point do you just decide to try something else if those are the percentages?
Those 5 man stats kind of surprised me. Luke is changing everything but the strategy. 5 games in and only 2 units have had at least 5 minutes and 5 games together. That's rotation chaos and looks like a squirrel looking for a nut in all the wrong places.

In the grand scheme pretty much ideologically, but, hmmm... trade Fox so you can give a coach that hasn't won anywhere else either, got personally kicked by LeBron James, and trended on twitter more than once last season under the hashtag FIREWALTON. I think there is another way to go maybe.
In the end yeah though, you either build your team to suit your coach, or you get a coach to suit your team. Monte put his eggs in the guard basket so go with it or be gone.

So what’s up with Fox? I feel like we’re trying to use him off ball too much, but his shooting has been so whack this season… too buff?
Yeah they need to Bench Harkless and give Louis King a shot literally and figuratively.
Walton isn’t a great coach but this roster is very flawed. Fox and Mitchell just aren’t playable together. Net Rating: -14.8

I’m more worried on why Hali is so afraid to knock down his 3 point shots??? He has some great looks and yet decided to dribble again , look around either going in for 2 or hang off. This is not what we saw from him last yearOkay scratch that post earlier, I’m worried about both Hali and Fox.

Oh, no question the roster is gimmicky but gimmicks can work. Even the good teams are starting to run no PF or C lineups. Issue being they can pretty much all put out bulky power guards or 4 guys 6'7" to 6'8" at the same time, the Kings literally can't, or at least not in the way you want to. Maybe long term that's how it works out in the backcourt but Davion plays like a SG/combo and his shot looks like it will translate if used correctly. We have to see if it's they can't play together or if it's trying to run 2 PG's (and 3 in all), none of which are true, who switch off running offense while also not prioritizing high percentage spot shots. They instead rely on iso ball creation with limited outside threats and a lack of emphasizing middle pick and roll the way they need to.
