Jason Thompson will return to the Kings after an agreement was reached on a multi-year deal Sunday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Kings basketball president was limited in what he could say because of NBA rules during the moratorium on signing free agents that ends Wednesday.

But having Thompson's deal completed frees Petrie to look at other areas. Petrie said trades and other free agents are possibilities.

"We're going to look at (trades and free agents) and pursue some things," Petrie said.

The Kings need to continue to improve their shooting and team defense and have different avenues to do so.

Well, so we got Jason back on a fair deal, guess that means we're already a step ahead of last offseason's debacle.

Now onto TWill, who I think could be a steal.

Although I somewhat lobbied for Ryan Anderson, Jason Thompson DOES make more sense with this roster at this price. $6mil per for 4 years (hasn't been said yet, but I'm assuming it will be 4) is quite good for his production. He is worth the money he is being paid, and if he can keep slowly improving his on court, and maybe even more importantly his off court stuff (He's one of our better leaders/locker room guys) this could be a great value contract for us.

I have to say I am impressed/happy with how we have been able to keep OUR guys for good money. Thornton was a good deal last offseason, and Thompson appears to be the same this year.

Terrence Williams is important. We have an opportunity here to sign him to something a long the lines of a 4 year / 12-15 million dollar deal, which could be a KILLER get for us. If he isn't as good as Marcus Thornton, he's pretty close. Thornton obviously has him on scoring, but Williams can do just about everything on the court while Thornton is really only an offensive player, and to be even more specific, a scorer. And this is meant as no disrespect to Thornton, who I like a lot, but I really believe in Terrence Williams. He needs to work on his shot, but other than that .. he can do it all.

So after it's all said and done if we get Terrence Williams signed this offseason will be about what was expected considering the obstacles. JT absolutely had to get done and with a good draft pick Kings front court is solidified. Now, where's that elusive SF or are we stuck with what we have? Petrie seemed to indicate today that more could be in the offing but what? Amnesty for Salmons? Not likely but hopefully a trade that makes sense happens.

sweet. glad that wasn't dragged out. really enjoyed his consistency/reliability the last half of the season.

Agreed on both counts.

I think T-Will could be a case of signing up a player before he blows up on a bargain basement contract. Think B-Jax signing and Peja extension type scenarios where you end up getting a player much pore productive than his salary indicates.

We really need to re-sign T-Will now and look at trades as a way to clear up the rest of the mess on the roster.

I am very happy we got him back. I mean our front court is set for years now. We got everything. If Whiteside even shows a glimpse of what we thought he could do. We are going to be in fine shape. Just sign me a sf and lets go and get this season started.

Yeah I think this is great news, JT has really shown some very solid promise. Considering the contracts given out recently, it also sounds like we're getting him at a great price.

All that's left to do is trade Tyreke, Salmons and a future 1st round pick for Rudy Gay, and we're set.

PG: Thomas, Fredette
SG: Thornton, Garcia
SF: Gay, Williams, Outlaw, Honeycutt
PF: Thompson, Robinson
C: Cousins, Hayes, Whiteside

Also it was only a few years ago where our front line consisted of Spencer Hawes, Mikki Moore, Old Brad Miller, and with a couple of games from Ike Diogu and Drew Gooden. :D

TRob, JT, and DMC is a three-headed rebounding machine. That's something good moving forward. Next up, let Mr. Ray secure Whiteside's minutes and we're set up front. Downside though is that we're left with Hayes is our only big that knows how to set and defend the pick-and-rolls. I hope we'll see progress on that department this season. A training camp is badly needed by this team.

BTW, I don't think we're gonna be signing any SF this month. So let's just hope this guy plays better to add some shot blocking potential from the wings.

And then we hope that the NBA allows us to play with two basketballs on the court?

We will let the back court guys dribble the ball around and take a contested jumper, then we will have one of our 5 bigs grab an offensive board get the bucket. Sounds like a plan that can work with our team make up now :)

Why get rid of Evans?

I think one of MT, IT, and Jimmer should be dealt instead of Evans because those three will always be liabilities in defense.

And with that said, our W-L % hasn't exactly changed very much since. Now out of the lineups we used to have back then what HASN'T changed? (hint see starter at SF)

And my late grandma would drop 30 on that back court.....in a half!

It's nice to hear about Thompson. The guy who has worked very hard gets resigned (Thompson); the guy that didn't (Greene) wasn't resigned. Not only a good signing, but a good message sent to our young guys. Now I just want Thompson to take it to another level on defense, especially with the pick and roll and becoming more of a leader in that area.

I'd also like to see T-Will resigned for a low price. If there is a trade, I continue to think Thornton is the first on the list.

Honestly I am surprised we got him at that price. 4 years at that is great but it wouldn't shock me to hear its 2 with some sort of option on the second.

If we think at the crazy free agents market out there (Fields, Asik, Anderson...) we have to give Petrie some credit. In two years he signed MT and JT giving them reasonable contracts. We should be pretty happy about that.

I honestly feel that JT was willing to take a lower salary to stick with us. He seems like a very loyal kinda guy, and it helped that we made it clear resigning him was our top priority. When you listen to the other teams' broadcasts they often somehow see JT as a failed star prospect rather than a very good role-playing one. If that's the view of him around the league it certainly would have helped us in signing him to such a reasonable contract.

I too think JT is a solid and loyal type of person. However, its hard to imagine anybody seeing JT as a "star" prospect at all. He was a 4-year player out of Rider, selected 12th in the draft. That doesn'r scream potential "star" to me. I think we got good value from that pick.

Maybe, some people are thinking that, because JT's played a lot for us, where he might have been only a back-up for many other teams. If Robinson develops, I fully expect JT to fullfill the role of back up big man very well. I'm happy he's staying in Sacramento.

Sac is the best case scenario for both parties on this one TWILL really fit like a glove here, Key player if you ask me.

Not sure why they would look at JT that way. For where he was picked, he's probably where he should be. I mean its always nice to have a player surprise you, and become a star, but thats the exception and not the rule. If you can draft a player in the late lottery or below, and have that player become a solid rotational player and a starter, I think you've had a good pick. Now if JT had been a top 5 pick, the thats a different story. Would you trade JT straight across for Thabeet? I know I wouldn't! And Thabeet was the second pick in the draft.
