Kings get #5 pick

Meh.. He's a fine college player but he's not the typical size of a PF (on the small side).. Plus he does not have a SF type of game.. I think I would pass.

Surely you jest! Johnson is a SF and a very good outside shooter. He's a great athlete. The only question mark is how good a defensive player he'll be since Syracuse plays a zone. But the dude is not now, nor will he ever be a PF.

I doubt Cousins falls to us. More likely we're looking at Aldrich or Johnson.

Same.. which means "Meh, and Meh'er" With Johnson being Meh, and Aldrich being Meh'er. Neither one excite me as NBA prospects.. We are basically looking at a Thompson, or Hawes type talent which we will probably looking to unload in a couple years.

The dropoff from the top four is pretty drastic.. So the 5th pick isn't worth much. Rather than drafting Johnson or Aldrich you might as well try to draft a homerun player..

Cousins is fat and has a bad attitude. We don't need a "cancer" in the locker room. You guys are all talking like this is the end of the world. You are putting too much into this draft. We will still get a solid player who will help us.

I'd say its pretty much a given that the Wizzards take either Wall or turner. The only reason I list both is because they already have Arenas. The 76's don't need a big, so they take whomever is left between Turner and Wall. The Nets don't need a center, so I'd say they take Favors.

That brings us to the Timberwolves. They need a center. The question is, is Cousins the type of center they're looking for. Very similar in style to Jefferson. They also need some outside scoring, and I know from reading their newspapers that if they got the number one pick, they were either trading down, or selecting Turner. Thats if you can believe whats written. If true, then its possible that they might lean toward Johnson. Or, they might be willing to trade down a spot or two and go after James Anderson.

So maybe the Kings will get lucky again. Joe Maloof was saying prayers. Praying for the first pick in the draft. As they say, sometimes the prayer not answered is the answer. Its certainly going to make for an exciting draft day...

He doesn't strike me as a SF though.. I can't really back it up with any reasons but when I watched him I wasn't thinking "what a great SF he would make". I actually didn't think much of him as his game didn't really stand out to me..

I don't know.. He just doesn't get me excited.

Oh they take Cousins.. No doubt about it. The talent in the top 4 far surpasses what's below 4th in my opinion. We have almost no chance at getting any of the four mentioned. People are trying to convince themselves here that Minnesota doesn't need Cousins on Kingsfans, but in reality they would be dumb not to take him.

It's not all that bad, I don't think JOHN WALL was going to save the KINGS. This teams needs either A) Shooter or B) Big Man, so it'll work out.

Exactly!!!!! We have nothing. Nocioni cant shoot, and spencer with jason thompson have nothin goin. Oh wait... we have May coming off the bench for us!!! LOL!

On some of the Wolves boards they are talking about an interview the other day where Kahn stated that there are three top tier players. The feeling is that he is talking about Wall, Turner and Favors. They are just as pissed at #4 as we are about #5.

Now if the Wolves contacted Petrie to see what we'd be willing to give up in order to let Cousins fall to us, what do you think his response should be?
In other words, what would you be willing to give up to the Wolves if they came calling in regards to letting Cousins slip to us?

Our 2nd round pick, a player, ect?

Just curious, as it's a fairly good chance that something like the above plays out.

I believe Minny has 3 first round picks - at least 2. Last year they had overall #5 and #6 and took Flynn and Rubio. Obviously, Rubio is now bigger trade bait as far as his rights than ever, but that doesnt help the Kings.

WE really needed that #4 pick (no worse than #4) because ending up with #5 is just pee poor. Yes, maybe GP can swing a deal with Minny or possiby New Jersey to move up - but I don't think so. Unfortunately, those trying to sugar coat this #5 are making me more ill than I already am.

well all i know is that from draft day, til the beginning of training camp is gonna be very interesting. this summer, i think, is where Petrie REALLY earns his stripes as a GM with this franchise!

Last year I was a lot more positive about #4 than this year's #5. Just can't find much to cheer about whatsoever. We're definitely looking at a project, whoever we get. Aldrich? Ughh. Monroe? Ughh. Johnson, he's still an ughh because he can't create his own shot. I'd take Udoh at #5, but I can't really get excited about the pick right now. The Kings could easily be in the "top" 5 next year...

I'm convinced that this sucks, and considering that we had the third spot and fell out of the illustrious top 4, there is NO silver lining. I cannot be convinced otherwise, so don't even try :(

If I'm Geoff I am seriously working the phones now to trade this pick for something more substantial. And given that Joe Maloof was suggesting yesterday that we might even consider trading #2-#4, I would think #5 would be an even more open invitation. The biggest hesitation just being that the perceived falloff might well mean a falloff in return value too.

I agree, this calls for a merry uncelebration. How the freaking hell did we get this shi*ty luck AGAIN? Where's my conspiracy theorists... seriously tho, we needed the 4th pick... we were sposed to get the third. We end up with 5th? (insert 5 more lines of bitching). GAWD

Petrie is much better at drafting than he is at trading, so I'd rather them keep it.

Through-out the last few weeks I've talked about how much I'd like to have Turner and how I'd take him over Wall.
With that said, the player who I felt might be the best fit for us is Cousins, even if he isn't on the same talent level as Turner.

I think there is a small chance that we could still end up with Cousins. Wes Johnson was in discussion through-out the entire year as being one of the best basketball players for a reason.
He's going to be a good NBA talent, and if we did not have Donte and Casspi on our team right now, I'd be perfectly content to take him at the 5th spot.
The fact of the matter is that the Wolves have Ryan Gomes as their premiere SF, and Wes Johnson would be a huge upgrade for their team.

So there is a small chance, just a small one, that either Cousins slips to us, or is willing to make some sort of deal so that we can pick up Cousins.

I'm not optimistic. I'm sick right now, but I'm going to have a little bit of hope that we could still come away with one of the better talents for our team.

And if the opportunity presents itself and we have to make some sort of deal in order to get Cousins, I'd probably make a deal.

If we can't land Cousins then for me it's between Aldrich and Udoh for the 5th pick.

Agreed, this team is in need of another star player, we need to find Reke's Robin...or even his Batman. But drafting @ 5 we will land a decent player..good but not great. Last years draft was much deeper than this years so we cant point to last year and say see its worked before. I vote we either trade up to get the guy we want or trade the pick for a more established player. The LAST thing i want us to do is trade down. we do not need any more mediocre role players on this team. We have 11 of them already....
