I personally think that Dally is on his decline. I don't think offering him a fat, long contract is a good idea. I'd rather let him go and have space to sign our own kids when they have to re-up with us. Side note: I'd still want Dally at 8-10M, but not anymore than that.
What evidence do you have for Daly being on the decline? He had a little injury and a little Westphaling slowing him early, but he averaged 11.4pts 11.1rebs after the All Star break and finished up with season numbers largely in his normal range. 30 ain't dead. Know the world's teenagers have a hard time seeing that. Know I did at that age. But Daly's in decline much the way DWade is in decline or Amare or Chandler or whoever is in decline.
Once Dally's athleticism begins to decline, what will he rely on? Smart BBIQ? Doubt that. He'll still be a good man-on defender, but once he loses a step he won't be the shotblocker he is now. Besides, the whole timing's off. Once we are actually gunning for the playoffs he'll be in the latter part of his contract, and i don't think we'd sign to another contract after that.

Hopefully Minny is more stupid than us and comes with a 4 year, $25-30 million so we dodge the bullets on this one.
You're not alone SacTown. I'm totally on board. I think there are people unappy with the deal because they are making assumptions now about who we're not going to get in FA.
First off, Landry never came here as a defensive player. Hayes is well known for his defense and has been for a few years.
I, for one, like this signing. Think of the MLE guys the Kings got even in the good 'ol days when they could potentially draw a top tier Free Agent! a hobbled Shareef; Mikki Moore? Keon Clark? I would take Chuck Hayes in his prime over those guys anyday.
1. Chuck Hayes seems like the kind of guy who will add to the teams toughness
2. help our younger bigs learn some rebounding and defensive fundamentals (I hope Whiteside is reading this)
3. Doesn't cost too much, IMHO
4. He does not seem like a bad chemistry/bad atitude type of guy (that is yet to be seen in Sac, though)
5. I do not see Chuck Hayes complaining about coming off the bench
A lot of you are saying we should have gone after Dalembert for twice the money... Last season, Dalembert was in a contract year and playing for his big deal; it is yet to be seen how he will play once he gets his big pay day. Also, Dalembert is not the future starting center or power forward for Sacramento... Cousins is. Why blow a ton of cash on a guy you are planning to have come off the bench and eventually have to unload when he complains about playing time?
Chuck Hayes makes sense to me and I am excited about having him on the roster and excited about still having a lot of cap room.
I think it more has to do with Gavin Maloof saying they were going to start at the top of the FA list and work their way down. That was his exact quote. And so far that doesn't appear to be the case. I am not particularly enamored with this FA class, but I was at least hoping they would have retained Dalembert or added a new shot blocking C, then add a guy like Hayes after dealing JT or Hickson.
This is correct. They said they would bid for the top guys. The agent speak seems to indicate that didn't happen.
This from Sam for SI
• One final note on the Kings: Don't hold your breath for that spending spree I mentioned the other day. When the initial version of the tentatively agreed upon collective bargaining agreement had the new minimum payroll at 85 percent of the salary cap as opposed to the previous 75 percent, that meant the Kings would have to spend about $17 million to reach the salary floor. But according to a memo from union executive director Billy Hunter obtained by SI.com on Wednesday, the floor wound up being set at 80 percent for this season (and 85 next season and 90 percent thereafter), so the financial mark the Kings must hit is subsequently less.
What's more, the fact that each team's payroll isn't determined until the end of the season means the Kings could operate under the payroll floor during much the season as long as they add enough salary at some point to make up the difference. If not, the amount in which they come up short must be evenly distributed to the team's current players.

Starting at the top of the FA list and working down doesn't mean that they would necessarily sign the big $ FAs first, then the smaller $ FAs. It just means that they would be contacting all the FAs, even the big names, to see if it was doable for them to play for the Kings. This signing doesn't contradict what they said. Hey, if Chuck Hayes is the best FA they sign, I'll be on board with every other basher. But it's way too early for that.
This would apply to owners who don't want to spend, and don't want to win. We'll find out. It'll be pretty obvious in a couple weeks whether or not the Maloofs are investing to put a winner out there, or spending just enough to get over the floor, meaning the on court product is not that important to them, they have lied to all of us, and aren't serious about investing in a winner.

Ha!
Now the Kings are going to be in a bidding war over Hayes?
According to Chuck Hayes' agent, The #Sacramento #Kings & #Minnesota#Timberwolves are on equal ground in attaining Hayes. @ChrisBHaynes
Maybe Adleman is offering more PT? No reason to up the offer, he takes it or leaves it.
The thought there were going to be in Anaheim when they made those statements about spending money. They dont have money in the bank to spend. Look for them to be under the cap till the trade deadline. They may pick up a few waived players then spend money on someone playing in the chinese league to meet the min payroll.
A lot is changing very fast.
Wolves have matched our offer to Hayes, and my gut tells me if the money is the same he'll go to Minni with Adleman.
Houston working on bringing in Gasol, Heat get Battier, Knicks get Chandler, GSW working on Jordan ..
Could open us up as the last team in play for Dalembert.
Hou also going after Nene. Wouldn't it be funny, if every team which can afford Daly except us, turns elsewhere, and Daly is forced to come back to us for anything above the mid level?
One can hope.....
Pretty sure I heard them in an interview, after being granted the 1 yr arena extension, that they'd spend, and spend big. So that would have been with them knowing they were here this year.
Could open us up as the last team in play for Dalembert.
