Kevin McHale Assistant/Big Man Coach

It's official. Kevin McHale is out in Minnesota, and he still wants to coach. Paul Westphal has mentioned that any assistant coach he's ever had on his staff has either been a head coach previously, or became a head coach, so McHale would fit that mold well. He's a great teacher, especially for young big men, and would help Jason and Spencer immediately. Wouldn't he be a great addition as an assistant coach?

It would be pretty awesome if we can get him, although I dont think he would want to move to Sacramento after being in Minnesota for all those years.

I mentioned in some thread last week that I would consider McHale a near ideal big man coach for Spencer -- he was everything Spencer could/should be down in there (all the post moves), and more (tough, elite defender) -- and that if he got canned I would definitely give him a call. Well...he got canned.

Here's a phone for you. Make the call Brick :)

I almost posted the "there's a phone in that picture?" response, but I did not want to appear shallow. :p

...Too skinny

Anyways! I think giving him a call wouldnt hurt. I sorta doubt that there are teams lining up to give him a head coach or GM position after how he ran the show in Minny. I mean, he's no Isiah....But he isnt Pat Riley either.

Nope. Don't want him - for the simple reason he's still too fresh from being the big cheese in Minnesota. You don't want someone used to giving orders, whether the orders themselves made sense or were listened to, a position with someone who's been out of the spotlight for a while. Would be a recipe for disaster, IMHO...

I like the IDEA of McHale as a big man coach but I simply don't think he'd work out at this point in time...

Hes far from fresh being the man in Minnesota. He lost his control a long while ago. I dont think he would come in here as an assistant and then start telling Petrie all of his trade secrets...LOL!... all coaches are entitled to an opinion but i think he'd be able to know his place and keep it down. He seems like a nice guy and im sure he wouldn't wanna come in here and screw over Paul.

i think he would fill that role nicely. a big that can show some of our young guys some tricks of the trade. givem a call westphal :)
