There's a Bagley TPE on top of the Haliburton one? Bagley one would have an extra day or two before it expires?

Also - he was competing with Joe Harris, Royce O’Neale, Kevin Durant, Yuta Wantanabe and a Morris brother for playing time. Not a great developmental opportunity in Brooklyn.
Yeah that was my thought. A guy named Durant kind of soaked up his minutes. As long as he can defend and not hit the side of the backboard from 3 he will find a role.

Had a surprisingly good rookie year, then what I'm trying to find out is why he never got back into the rotation this season. Started 23 games, 20 MPG last year, but nothing this year.

And I do recall he had a few stand-out games and has tremendous length on the wing. Think he's a developmental buy-low piece at a premium position as opposed to someone who can step in right away and help
probably had more to do with more available Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons and TJ Warren. Brooklyn was a lot more patchwork last season if I remember

Yeah, and behind KD, Simmons, and TJ Warren there is Yuta Watanabe (who's been shooting the lights out this season), the new Kyrie replacement Cam Thomas, Royce O'Neale, and the explosive rookie Day'Ron Sharpe.

Then thru the Kyrie trade, they acquired Dorian Finney-Smith who's probably going to be among the top of that whole bunch of wings.

Kessler Edwards is expandable to them.

(Maybe one of our coaches, fellow Pepperdine alumni could turn him into a lockdown defender... haha)

I think Baja is going to like this move. He has been pretty high on Edwards since I can remember. His shooting at the NBA level has been awful this year, but it was OK last year and he was a good college scorer. I think as a bench piece he'll probably bring enough to warrant minutes. The question is about his defense - which might actually be pretty good. He was worth 0.9 DWS in 1000 minutes last year, which is a much better pace than Davion (0.6 DWS in 2000 minutes) and almost exactly the same rate as Okpala. Doesn't measure up to a Thybulle, but who does?

I wouldn't rule out Edwards working his way into bench minutes down the stretch as he gets adjusted to our offense, but it would seem likely that he'll start out in Stockton to learn the ropes.

Also - I like KZ as a role player, and I think Brown likes KZ, but acquiring Edwards does free up the possibility of using KZ as a salary throw-in for another trade. At the moment I don't see both guys getting real minutes simultaneously. If we do keep KZ through the trade deadline, there's probably a competition between Edwards and Okpala to see which one gets next year's option picked up. (Probably not both!)

I like that we take a swing on a young player like this but we're now good enough that people in this thread aren't pinning any hopes on him. Not every young player needs to pan out into a star.... hopefully we're getting a guy that can work out as a cheap end of bencher that occasionally gets some run.

(Quote from Baja, back on April, 21)

Kessler Edwards: SF, 6'8", 215 Lbs, Junior, Pepperdine.
34.0 mpg - 17.2 ppg - 49.1% fgp - 37.8% 3pp - 87.6% ftp - 6.8 rpg - 1.2 apg - 1.0 stl's - 1.2 blk's.

Edwards is another one of my personal favorites for the 2nd rd. He's projected as a 3 & D type player. He's a good athlete, but not an elite athlete. He's capable of guarding multiple positions from SG's to PF's. Right now he more of a catch and shoot player offensively. He will attack the basket if the lane is open, but right now his handles do limit him offensively a little. I see him eventually as a solid rotational bench player in the NBA. He's been all over the place in the mock drafts from middle of the 2nd rd to being undrafted.

I have him going around the mid to late forty's. He's been a good shooter all three years at Pepperdine averaging 38.6% for the three years. He's also a solid rebounder for his position. He's not a player that's going to create much for others, but then if he were, he likely be in the first round.
