Keon Ellis

I would love to see the Kings land a top 5 pick this year, obviously, given the prospects in this year's class but we've also been there done that when it comes to the draft and most of them didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. So I can't even really enjoy a full-on tank year at this point without subconsciously worrying that there will be another "Bagley over Luka" pick at the end of it. That one decision probably broke me permanently as a draft believer.

Mainly I do not want there to be any chance of this new front office rallying around a Frankenstein lineup headlined by defensively challenged vets with the young role-players only getting limited touches and 2-3 shots a game. The more disastrously we crash and burn while leaning on that type of a strategy the more likely it is we get a full rebuild which suits my interests. I would also be fine if we pivot to playing mostly young players and seeing what we have with a Keegan, Keon, Nique, Devin, and Maxime lineup playing starter's minutes. At that point, the draft is only a secondary concern which is probably not ideal for our long-term future (drafting a franchise player is the quickest way to get back on top) but is less anxiety inducing given this franchise's woeful draft history.
Dybantsa is FR

Don't get your hopes up. He's going first or second so we'd need to win the lottery and not do anything dumb with the pick. Nine times out of ten this season ends with us winning 3-4 extra games in April and taking ourselves out of contention for a top three pick. And the tenth time it ends with Bagley.
Yah. Not gonna stop scouting or accepting bad things. That isn’t strategic.

6 of our last 10 are vs teams that will be playing for the playoff positioning of the other four one is vs the clippers who have more talent and no pick to tank. Vs New Orleans who have more talent and no reason to tank and At Charlotte who at that time could be a better team. We play at Brooklyn on a back to back and fourth game in six nights if we have shipped off DDR, monk, and Sabonis by then we could end the season 2-8

I think I’d be pretty down with Keon for Jarace

Smh Barret better be used in a three way to get Kuminga

I'll have to look into Jarace, but if we've already resigned to not keeping Keon for some reason, seems ok to take a swing on a wing.

Keon being very popular should be raising up some red flags that we should probably keep him, but oh well

Yeeeeah, you'd certainly think so. In an analytics-driven league where every franchise is trying to exploit whatever efficiencies they can find up and down their rosters, it's so glaringly obvious why Keon pops, and it remains so baffling that this franchise has decided to cast aside one of the best undrafted finds in the NBA across the last half-decade.

I mean, it's even out in the open, the league values a 3 and D wing. It's perfect because you don't build a team around this type of players but it is easily plug-and-play in most scenario regardless of team's play style and strategy.

I’d do that trade. Walker was a top ten pick who has shown flashes as a shooter and was known as a great defender in college and he is 6’9. Maybe the Pacers think they have a window now and don’t want to wait for further development.

Based on his combine measurements, Walker should round up to 6'8" so 6'9" is a bit of a stretch (BBRef/ESPN actually list him at 6'7").

Not sure how Keon really fits on the Pacers when Haliburton comes back, unless they are planning on not having Mathurin or Nembhard. Seems like one of the few teams that wouldn't have much room for playing time in that spot. People keeping wanting to call him a "wing", when in reality he's a combo guard

I'm no expert on Walker, but I do like adding about 6" to the roster, and his standing reach and his wingspan and his poundage. I like Ellis as a good bench guy, but I've never viewed him as a starting 2G, so I'm very open to Walker or some other wing who can add some size to the roster.

Because good teams understand you can't have enough Keon Ellis types on your roster and Mathurin is a 2/3 flex, so you can just primarily play him at the 3 as well.

Fact checking myself: Bball ref has Mathurin at the 3 about 61% of the time this season and 81% last year. Seems correct.

Also also, maybe just preventing themselves from getting locked out on Mathurin if they don't think they can pay him. They have Pascal and Hali on max deals, they have Nembhard on 20mil/season for 2 more years, Obi on 15mil/season for 2 more years, NeSmith extension kicks in at 20 mil in 27/28. The finances get pretty tight if Mathurin wants 20+ Mil/season

Yeah, and the fact that Keon has a lot of interest around the league, just like some of us here knew that he would, and the Kings not finding a way to play him consistently enough for two years now, is par for this abysmal organization
