[Rumor] NBA Insider Predicts Keon Ellis' New Contract in Free Agency

I read June 29th somewhere. And I'm more worried about "well, this team is offering a starting spot or something else so let me go." Keon might have very little market or a huge one, Perry in making his calls would likely have already heard exactly what teams feeling is on that.
If he wants to start we should package him with Zach and he can wait a year to get paid. Of course it will be Haliburton all over again unless we get a good player and picks in return.

The most frustrating thing to me was Devin and Keon not playing with LaVine more. Devin and Keon looked awesome defensively when they got time together. Like close to answer level needs wise. LaVine can play SF. Hopefully Christie goes with that next season.
It isn't ideal but and then locks us back into Keegan at the 4 but if DDR and Monk are gone I do think those two can cover the point of entry.

The Pacers and Thunder. Two teams that have been mostly playing 3 guards. As long as they aren't getting manhandled which Keon struggles a bit here and there although he fights, but Carter and LaVine handle bigger matchups pretty well. Devin on POA and Keon off the ball not being a core part of this team moving forward is malpractice. If Carter comes back with some size now that he's got an offseason to work out it's got definite possibilities.

But both are projecting as ROLE PLAYERS. Don't eat your cap up with those if you aren't going places. Simple as that. The Kings have to look at value very carefully because the "risks" the Kings have takev over the last number of years have yielded what they have. They've played the slots on building around Fox, running it back the 2nd year, creating space for DeRozan, trading for LaVine, and so on. Being pragmatic in all facets is the wise choice at this point. Like I said, the Kings aren't completely out on anything if they let it play out. If they didn't have Bird rights or even that extension option then this might go way up the list of top shelf issue this offseason but that isn't the case.

Not all role players are created equal, and every franchise's cap space is going to somebody. Sure, you don't spend a bunch of money on a roleplaying big with limited offense who's also a negative on defense like Jason Thompson, especially once he gets into his late 20s/early 30s. But you do spend money on feisty 25-year old guards with length who have All-Defensive potential and shoot lights out from three. Again, the cap space is going to somebody, and I'd rather it goes to a homegrown talent who literally fits the mold of defensive success in the NBA right now.

True, but when you are where the Kings are at you can't look at it like that and be damned the parts making up the whole. This is about assets now and you don't want to pay starter level money to one position backups if that's how it goes. 25 million a year is crazy at this point. If he's worth that then that's yet to be proven. His comp if I were Perry would be around Herb Jones level at best. Then you get down to the fact that Jones has a better handle and can swing up more effectively. Keon is a player who could send one team over the top and be an anchor contract on another. Like I said, ask the Nuggets who had way more incentive to overpay their 3 and D guys. If this all works out the right way maybe Keon and Devin are the starting backcourt by the mid point of next season and then you just overpay on the extension anyway. If the Kings are offering real deal $$$ on an extension or via Bird rights on a 5 year contract Keon ain't freaking turning it down unless something very odd is up.
