Jon Brockman Signing

Nice. I was worried he was going to be another GP second round draft pick casualty.

He'll probably be a 3rd string big, but I get the feeling he'll be a fan favorite 3rd string big. I could see him going off for 10 rebs in less than 10 minutes at least ONCE this season.

Big WHOOP from down here. Loved watching him in summer league and confident he can make roster.

Glad that one is catching on (after the disappointing response to The Flying Platypus a couple of years back).

Just, um, don't tell the 6'7" 255lb guy that it was me ok? :p

Um ...

Errr ...

...sigh...

That ship may have already sailed, Brickie dear.

It would sound funny as hell to hear Grant screaming something like...'Long rebound by Omri, outlet to Sergio, bounce pass to Andres, back to Peaches lay it up and in!!!! Ohhhh boyyyy, if you don like that you don't like Kings basketball!!!!'

In Amick's blog, referenced at the beginning, it was never a question of "if" they would sign him.

Considering Brockman's latest Twitter update around 7 a.m. today had him halfway here from Seattle on his drive, the pen may not have actually hit the paper just yet or maybe the two sides haven't agreed at all. Nonetheless, it was/is a matter of when and not if, with sources who have knowledge of the contract talks telling me the holdup was related to whether to guarantee one or two years (and by extension the money in those years, of course).
Glad to hear he's on his way to Sac. Hopefully they get things settled and he can join the volutary workouts.:)

I really hope that nickname doesnt stick. "Peaches"? Reminds me of another unmentionable california team that gave a backup bigman a wussie name. "Cookie". I'll be referring to Brockman as "Meat" from now on lol.

David Lee and Nate Robinson are both still unsigned. The knicks just sign other pg and pf but not them? Should we even consider Lee?

There's no realistic way Lee would sign with us. Unless he can find a magical offer somewhere on the order of 4 years, $40M, Lee is definitely going to be signing a one-year deal and then testing the free agent waters again next offseason when there's a ton a cap room around. He's not going to take an MLE for more than one year and miss out on the windfall 2010 offseason. On top of that, even if we (or another team) were to sign Lee to a one-year MLE offer sheet (about double the Knicks' qualifying offer), the Knicks would almost certainly match it anyhow, and I don't imagine there are too many GMs racing to be in the front of that line. I'm pretty confident Lee will be a Knick next year, most likely on a one-year deal, though it's possible they will reach a long-term agreement.

Agre with the Capt. I, for one, don't understand the fuss around restricted free agency these days. If you don't get an offer you like because teams are scared of being matched, just take the one year and be unrestriced next year already! Sheesh.

At this late date there is not even any reason for teams to fear being matched -- that's purely an early in the FA period concern, when having your capspace tied up for a week before the other team matches can cost you a shot at someboyd else. But bby this time of the year there is nothing at all stopping anybody from making an offer to him other than lack of interest.

Im happy we finally signed meat. Im not very pleased with having both Meat and May, both are short bigmen. So now the Kings have two perfectly sized (height, not weight) starting bigmen and two undersized backups. Im going to go bang my head against a wall now.

And it also sounds like Geoff is done making moves for the offseason (barring a trade). Wow. How do I get his job? Basically, once the draft ended months ago, he apparently didn't have much to do (or much luck) with improving the worst team in the league. Yuck.

Get in line -- I said many months ago when this interminable offseason began that with the Maloofs saying they weren't going to meddle I was going to give Geoff this offseason, this entire offseason, to prove that the old aggressive rebuilding Geoff of '98 was back rather than the snoring old man of the last half decade. Well entering the final weeks of an offseason following the worst year in franchise history guess what? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Give Geoff a chance to redeem himself once there are actually some great-decent free agents available as well as when we have some good cap room. I commend him for not pouncing on fools gold this offseason. He also has until february to pull a trade off.

It's been well discussed that 2010 was, in fact, pretty much accepted as being the target year to actually set the plan in motion with this year being the one to lay the foundation. I don't see why people are expecting Petrie to do the impossible. It seems to me that some people are just plain anti-Petrie and refusing to wait until next year to see if he can, in fact, pull it together again.

I'm sorry, Brickie, but you giving Petire the whole off-season to fall into step with YOUR parade makes no sense whatsoever. No offense meant whatsoever, but it isn't your parade I'm going to stand in line and pay money to watch.

The old aggressive rebuilding Petrie didn't do everything at once back then either. And it started with a key piece like Vlade. I think there are going to be opportunities to get a new key piece during the next TDOS as the FA class of 2010 looks to be interesting to say the least.

I can only imagine the cries of derision and scorn if Petrie did do something this year that didn't work as we expected and, as a result, we didn't have the ability to be participants in the 2010 fun...
