joey dorsey waived

Before we get too carried away with this, or start building a statue out front of the arena for Dorsey, lets have a little reality check. He played a total of 52 minutes for the Kings. In that 52 minutes he blocked 1 shot. For his NBA career he has played 113 minutes and has blocked, let me shout this from the rooftops, 2 shots. That hardly makes him a shotblocker surpreme. His rebounding numbers are a little better. He has little or no offense. He's a little slow to guard PF's and a little short to guard most centers. He stands a little over 6'6" in his bare feet. Dejaun Blair he isn't.

So me thinks, that if he also copped an attitude, he did so from a weak position. He wasn't going to be here next year anyway, so its no big deal.
Well I guess homeboy had attitude problems. And just for the record, I know he's a 2nd round 6'6 flat footed PF, but I saw what he could do when he was in college at Memphis and just think he hasn't been given a fair shot to see if that flash can translate to the NBA...I guess not obviously, sounds like he's a bit of a headcase or clown or something, too bad, he's got potential. Guess that's 2 great coaches that sent him packing for a reason now.

Man... who clowns around when possibly millions of dollars are at stake? That is very weird.

Coaches must not have thought too much of his talent because a little clownish behavior would have been tolerated if he was
any good. You have to think the team didn't see any future for him at all and so his attitude was used as the reason to pull the
trigger. Maybe is was an example to others? I don't think that sort of thing would work in the NBA, but it has been done in the
NFL. Bill Parcells told a guy to go clean out his locker at a Cowboys Summer camp I believe for being late to a meeting. I mean
Ron Ron still has a JOB and he is the biggest clown in the NBA. But he still has a ton of talent so they overlook it.

I heard what Grant said too. He said there were inappropriate comments made by Dorsey after the last game. He said he wouldn't repeat most of them, but Dorsey did say he wasn't going to workout, if coach wasn't going to play him. WTH?

Who is he to cop an attitude like that? He should've been one of the hardest working guys on the team. Maybe it was said partly in jest, its hard to tell, but that just isn't something to joke about when you are on the edge of falling out of the NBA. From the bits reported, sounds like he earned his way off the team. WTG, Dorsey.

Your post made me smile. (I concur.)

What a knucklehead. I'll never understand why some of these guys just don't get it. He has the opportunity to make life changing money in the next 10 years. Enough money to probably never have to work the rest of his life if he's smart with it. Instead, he'd rather be a goof ball and a disruption to the team.

Interestingly enough, he still hasn't been picked up by another NBA team.

I'm a Rockets season-ticketholder. This description by bajaden is pretty spot on. Dorsey had attitude problems in Houston. He didn't like to work. I'm going to assume he got waived partly because of that, and that he just never improved.

He had a lot of rebounds in one summer league. YEAH! Let's bench Hayes now! Heard that over and over! (Hayes is an undrafted Kentucky Wildcat championship team leader who worked his *** off to make it and has survived through two excellent NBA coaches in JVG and Adelman.) I quickly got tired of hearing a bunch of Rockets fans demand playing time for Dorsey ("so we can see what he can do, how else will we know? " like the coach doesn't know from seeing him in practice). The Rockets beat writer (Jonathan Feigen) was reporting all along that the dude was copping an attitude and not trying.

It's a shame.

Good post and thanks for the information. This makes perfect sense as to why the Kings waived him as well. It's actually nice to see players being held accountable for once and I suspect he's too much of a head case to ever figure things out.

It is a shame, think of all the guys that would give anything to have the opportunities he's had.

Here's what Jonathan Feigen (Rockets' beat writer) wrote in his Chronicle blog today:

Question from reader:

"The Kings waived Joey Dorsey, do we pick him up? "

(I think with Jordan Hill and probably the draft pick, the summer league team will not have enough minutes for another center. -- Jonathan)

Translation, Jonathan is making a joke that Dorsey wouldn't even make our Summer League team, which is probably true of the Kings as well.

From Grant's show:

He made some comments after the game, something to the effect of "I'm not going to work out since you are not even playing me" and other stuff that Grant said he would not repeat.

Some players sometimes are either clueless or just dumb.

Does anybody else know what else said?

Some know, but no one wants to repeat the rest. For one thing, apparently it contained quite a lot of unprintable and not-broadcastable (I made up that word :p) language. Grant said he couldn't repeat most of it on air.

Just look up the lyrics to the song mentioned in the bee article... Would definitely get me banned if I posted them here!
