Is skinner going to start when brad's healthy?

soulrhapsody

Prospect
G-Mike Bibby
G-Cuttino Mobley
C-Brad Miller
PF-Brian Skinner
SF-Peja Stojacovic

Would it be like this? I really want to see brad and skinner play at the same time...It looks really formidable in the paint

Probably not now -- suspect KT will keep the job. Really would like to see Skinner get a shot though. Would be so nice to have an actual NBA-size frontline again.

I think Thomas will be getting the start from here on out. I wouldn't mind starting Skinner depending on the matchup though. I think Skinner could do very well at PF with Brad out there with him.

who knows... starts don't matter much its PT and finishes that matter most.

Not if you ask some NBA players. They would much rather start just from the standpoint of comfort.

Which explains the importance of coaches. The game is way to important to leave up to players.

With our roster the way it is, if Skinner plays PF (as you suggest), who is the backup C when Brad gets a rest? We wouldn't have a "real" center to spell him....

3 man rotation at PF and center

Miller - starting center 35min
Thomas - starting PF 30-35min

Skinner - off the bench 25-30min. Plays center with Miller resting, Plays PF or C with Thomas resting

There's enough here for each of these guys and I think Skinner is the right guy to be coming off the bench.

And that would be fine. I'd rather have a "real" PF/shotblocker in there for 35mpg than a "real" backup center for 10mpg. You can fake the latter, not the former.

A Thomas/Brad combo is too small/short to play interior defense. With no interior defense comes no success in the playoffs. It pays to be big, as Miami, San Antonio, Detroit etc. will all tell you.

That makes sense, I thought you wanted him to only play PF - my bad.

This would be an interesting line-up if we had a true back-up center
Starting/ Off -bench
PG=Bibby / Jackson
SG=Mobley / Evans
SF=Tomas / Pedja
PF=Skinner / Williamson
C= Miller / Ostertag (temp)

I don't like Pedja right now to start,,,sorry

er...Peja will be a starter in Sacto until the day we finally ship him out. And Corliss absolutely sucks as a PF BTW. If you're 6'5" you better be able to jump like Barkley to play that position.

Remeber guys, I said right now.....Last 10 games he has had 2 decent starts
Kenny has played the last 10 games at a higher caliber than Pedja....

There is 7 footer sitting on the bench... but if the team wants/needs offense or small ball the subs would look much like they did with Webber. Bring in Darius or K9 at the 4 and shift Skinner to the 5 then after Bard is ready to come back in sit Skinner for a rest.

I think that is definatley the best way to go. Hopefully we'll still alive in the playoffs when Miller's ready to play. Skinner definately needs to play more than 10 min a game though for just backing up Brad. He's shown that his overall positive impact on the game warrants shifting him in between both C and PF to get him as many minutes as possible. This would mean that Darius would get the shaft, but that's ok since he's basically a jump shooter who can't hit the defensive glass.

Yep, we may not be able to see this working well until next year. It's true that Darius would get the shaft here, but I think there is a good chance the he's not even here next year. He has the option on a 1.7 contract next year. I bet he could get more if he opts out. That could be with us or someone else. I'm not sure what Petrie has in mind, but there could be a lot of moves this summer.

Brad, Peja, and Bibby will always be in the starting lineup if they're healthy. If Skinner's taking anybody's starting role, it will be KT or Songaila, depending on who Adelman's using as starter at the time.

I would rather see Skinner at the Center and Miller at PF, personally. We actually have a lot of flexibility with these guys, although they're undersized. It seemed to work alright throwing Ostertag out there for a while, too...I admit it...although he was sucking wind after about 2 minutes...lol
