There are reports by the way that Morrison is making a comeback. Apparently he went and played over in europe and got his mojo back. Frankly I was surprised he didn't do better than he did in the NBA. Too much pressure I guess. In college he played with a chip on his shoulder and with confidence. He always had a testy, fiery attitude. I saw none of that after he was drafted. Instead I saw what looked like a broken young man, with a deer in the headlights look. He's still young, so I wish him luck in pursuit of his dream.

I almost want him (Just Kidding!). He actually reminds me of Casspi a bit. Same fire .. inconsistent shooters. I think Morrison can do more off the dribble than Casspi. I hope he catches on somewhere.

Morrison never looked like much of an NBA player to me, but Charlotte played him all wrong and he did tear his ACL before his second season. He probably should have been better than he was, but he is a good example of a very good college player that didn't translate to the pro's. He never should have been drafted as high as he was.

Meant it as a role on the team.. Not on how he plays.. Meaning he can spot start, and hit 3s while pumping up the crowd.

See above. I like Jimmer.. Just don't think he's a PG. He's the energu guy off the bench like Barry, and the spot starter at PG that doesn't have all the PG skills like Kerr.

The only think I had said was that Evans wasn't a PG. I also thought we could have had Jordan or Chalmers a few years back when picks were going for cash.
I wanted Cousins since he was at Kentucky.. So? Which guys? And also, I like Jimmer.. Don't think he's a PG though.

1.) I don't expect Jimmer to be our starting PG this year, unless there are some injuries. I expect for him to get around 20 minutes a game as our 3rd guard off the bench.
2.) Jimmer is very good at creating shots for teammates and coming into this season will be our best pick-and-roll guard.
3.) By the end of the year he's going to be a better defender than Beno. Jimmer is more athletic, tougher, and I think is more of a winner than Beno.
(Lest you forget Beno at times was so bad on defense that he lost his starting job to Luther Head.)
Jimmer will most likely be a defensive liability, especially early on, but I expect him to work hard, learn team defense, and at least become adaquate.
(As an aside, I wanted to trade Beno after his first year with the new contract. However, after his play last year, I was sad to lose him, as he was a good, steady, veteran presence. With that said, Beno is completely expendible with the addition of Jimmer.)
4.) Unlike his play at BYU, he should only be getting 20 minutes a game, and he should be forced to put as much (if not more) energy and effort on the defensive end, rather than 'saving himself' to be the only offensive option on the team. So his defense effort/intensity will be better for the Kings than it was while at BYU.
5.) He has a winning attitude. He wants to win, and that means he's going to do whatever is asked of him, in order to be a successful piece for the team. He knows what his liabilities are, and he's going to work on them fanatically.
I don't expect him to be a star this year, nor do I expect him to surplant Thorton as our other guard. However, I do expect him to be very good for this team coming off the bench this year. As to how he plays in years to come, it will depend entirely on him, and how hard he works.

There's one obvious similarity in all three: they all can make outside jump shots.
There may be another similarity: shooting is what they do best. (Not defense, not assist making, shooting).

I don't care if people don't like the tone of my posts, and I have never cared for people who wish to infantilize discourse by splitting it up into pointless distinctions of positive and negative. If people have a problem with my arguments, then I welcome any criticism to them, and if their criticisms are valid, I am grateful for that.

On a positive note - if Jimmer does prove to be an above average NBA PG, he is exactly the type of PG that has helped teams win championships; spot 3 point shooter, decent ball handling, low TO's, great FT shooter. Like Fisher or Kenny Smith.
His defense will be the biggest question mark.

Yeah you are looking for a fight. Not gonna give it to you. I gave up fighting with Kings fans for Lent, even those who pose as ones. Idk whats wrong in your life to make you so unhappy but I wish you all the best.
As far as the OP, no real way to tell until we see him play, and even then it might take a year before we know anything. Look at Deron Williams for an example. Or Steve Nash. Neither had productive rookie seasons, DWills was more promising than Nashy but then again DWill got the run that Nashy didn't. However, I don't write players off until I actually see them play for fear of looking like an idiot in hindsight.

A couple of the characteristics that I think staunch defensive back court players always seem to possess is either speed or length or both. Jimmer has none. Overall athletic ability is pretty much a common denominator in terms of defensive capability when youre talking about guards. Yes there are exceptions. Its unlikely that Jimmer is one. Anyhow Im not hoping Jimmer is an excellent defender. Im just hoping that he isnt a liability. I dont like what I imagine when i think of Jimmer guarding any of the above average guards in
the NBA. It seems like a match up liability. After the layup cake walk that has been the Kings defense of the past I have no desire to see anyone on the court that isnt at least annoying opposing players with defense.

Also, I dont think Jimmer can play both guard positions. A player has to be able to guard the position that hes playing. Jimmer fredette on insert any shooting guard? You get the idea.

I agree that both length and speed are important for defense, but think that anticipation and quickness are more important. I don't know if Jimmer has or will develop anticipation, but he has very good quickness (especially lateral quickness). He is also more athletic that most seem to give him credit for. That being said, I don't expect him to be a great defensive player. I do think that he has a high basketball IQ, which should allow him to become a capable defensive player (especially team defense). Of course, only time will tell.
