Being (very) disappointed in the front office doesn't have to equate to "not looking forward to the season". I've already done the holding my breath till I turn blue thing... and we still have Kenny and Brad. Oh well.

Plus I think Watkins, Williams and Moore will see considerable playing time and the rebounding and running game that goes with them. If they contribute then SAR/Miller/Thomas time goes down the drain. That I want to see!!!

This would make my season (even if it meant we lost more games) I just don't see it happening all that much for Watkins and Williams unless we move some guys. I really really hope you're right though. I would have even more to be excited about.

It's going to be fun to watch the Bobcats "surprise everyone" (aka only those who haven't been paying attention, those who watch them on league pass already know how good they're likely to be this season) by making the playoffs with ease.
It's going to be interesting to watch the Celtics. I've always felt sorry for Pierce and Garnett - being stuck with idiots for GM's and their talents going to waste.
It's going to be even better to laugh at Orlando for their pathetically bloated contract for Rashard Lewis and barely do any better than last year, if at all.
Watching the Lakers suck never grows old.
But am I looking forward to watching the Kings absolutely suck, with little-to-no upside? Oh, yeah.. I'm so excited to see the further decline of Miller, Moore, KT, and SAR. So very excited to see the few youngsters (who are largely over-rated on this board, excuse me for saying so, considering what they've *ACTUALLY DONE* vs raw potential) get far less playing time than they should be. And oh yeah, watch us turn one of the slowest and athletically-challenged teams in the league to a run-and-gun team just because the coach said so. You can tell a bird with clipped wings to fly all day long, doesn't mean it's going anywhere.
No, I think I'll have my League Pass turned to Charlotte, Portland, Boston, and Golden State games. Maybe even Milwaukee if Yi ever plays.

This how I feel too!
I just miss basketball. Miss watching it, miss talking about it, miss analyzing (and overanalyzing it). Basketball and football are the only sports I really LOVE to watch, so I am always excited for the start of another season.

I'm interested to see how Theus fares, especially if he can keep fan support in the face of the Western Conference BEAST. The Kings got punished last year. If things start to go downhill next year it will be very, very difficult for Theus, imo. I'm also interested in Hawes, Martin, Garcia and Douby and their development. If they don't get significant time, and there are no trades made so that the same vets are taking the minutes, then I won't be very interested at all.
I'm very interested to see Portland, the Bobs, Minni and the Celts. Also, Seattle could be interesting if they make a deal or two.
Last, but not least, I'll be interested in the January trade deadline. Will we ever trade anyone?

I'll be glad to have the season start just so all the people who want to ***** all the time will actually have something to ***** about, instead of bitching about the fact that the Kings haven't done anything that they can ***** about.
I hope that all of you will be patient with Hawes. It takes around three years for a center to develop in the NBA. There are going to be growing pains along the way, but I beleive in the long run he will be worth it.
I remember when the Warriors drafted Rober Parish and gave up on him after him after his second year and traded him to the celts for their first round pick, which I believe was the first pick in the draft. The rest is history. Don't be surprised if 10 years down the road, Hawes turns out to be better than Oden. I don't think that will happen, but stranger things have.

Seeing Adelman mold what is suddenly a tremendously talented Rockets team should be fun.
And watching the HOF trio got to work in Boston could be epic.
And watching the development of all the young guns of the future Portland dynasty will be exciting.
And seeing JRich and Gerald recreate their dunk contest matchup on a nightly basis in Charlotte could be a blast.

geoff petrie has said--on more than one occasion--that he is not actively shopping any player on the kings roster...

maybe i'm misinterpreting this...
but it sounds to me like GP is sitting on his ***...
he says he's taking calls, but he's not making any calls...
if participating in the draft, hiring reggie theus to coach the kings, and signing the rather mediocre mikki moore to the MLE are bold and active moves for the future...well, then maybe my modest expectations are still too high. really, it looks exactly like last offseason to me, when the kings participated in the draft, hired eric musselman to coach the kings, and signed the rather mediocre john salmons to a bad contract.
there has rarely been a more severe case of sitting on one's ***. geoff petrie needs to start acting like the brilliant GM that the league still unanimously thinks he is. patience is one thing. complacence is something else entirely.
You could very easily be misinterpreting no PUBLIC reports of action to mean no action whatsoever is being attempted.
Your comment about Petrie saying he's not actively shopping any players so he must not be doing anything is naive at best. Do you really expect him to announce to a reporter that he's actively trying to find a way to get rid of KT's albatross contract, knowing that if he cannot do it the whole KT situation could get even uglier? Or that he's working to move Mike Bibby but thinks he might have to wait until the trade deadline? How about announcing to the world that he's really fed up with Artest but that he just hasn't seen any kind of offer that might be worth it to the Kings to move him and so, instead, they're going to do their best to keep Artest happy and somewhat in control as long as he's here? Under what circumstances would you like Petrie to conduct his negotiations in the press?
And could you please point me in the direction of a GM who DOES conduct his negotiations publicly?

The moment Geoff says "I'm shopping these players and I want to get rid of them no matter what" is the moment I lose faith in him as a GM. That's the moment he pisses off that player and loses all his leverage. NO GM does their business like that.

Actually, Geoff's public stance has changed. He really did indicate that they were working hard looking at trade possibilities, and then now has indicated that they are no longer looking to make a trade. That doesn't mean one won't happen, but from what I've seen he has made the indication that he'd no longer pursuing things as he once was.

i'm not asking him to come out and say that he plans on trading anybody on the roster. i am asking that he doesn't say that he's not actively shopping anybody on the roster...because with geoff...that means that he really isn't actively shopping anybody on the roster. i'm asking that he doesn't say the kings want financial freedom, then turn around and sign mikki moore to the mle.
i am asking that he comes out and says that the front office has a plan for the future and a direction they wish to take. one day it's "we're hoping to rebuild with a focus on youth," and the next day it's "we're going to stick by our vets and remain a competitive team." to me, it sounds like geoff doesn't have any idea how to start this team over. we've been "rebuilding on the fly" for four years now, with absolutely nothing to show for it in terms of vision. geoff needs to be an active gm, because the kings require an active rebuilding plan. you can't be an active gm when you refuse to actively shop the few assets you have.
i completely understand that mike bibby, ron artest, and brad miller have a limited trade value, but geoff has done nothing to indicate that he has any plan whatsoever outside of letting all of his nasty contracts to expire over the next few years. i want him to acknowledge that the kings have embraced a rebuilding plan that involves investing in younger talents. this kings team built around mike bibby, brad miller, and ron artest are still good enough to yield up to an 8th seed with a competent coaching staff. and that's a recipe for disaster, because while we're waiting for those bad contracts to expire, we end up with middling draft picks. in an extreme sense, with geoff's current "plan," rebuilding wouldn't even fully begin until 2010, when the kings would have cap flexibility and a squad poor enough to actually yield top draft picks. in the meantime, kevin martin and francisco garcia will need to be re-signed, with the latter's value still a question mark as he rots on the bench behind the volatile artest.
point is, as of right now, the kings are the same team going into next season, with the mildly promising addition of spencer hawes and the uninspiring addition of mikki moore. i don't see how anyone thinks anything is going to be any different under theus. if he's even remotely competent as a head coach in the nba, then the kings are looking at another wasted season of mediocrity with little prospect for the future. what i want from petrie is an assurance that efforts are being made to secure a more successful future. waiting for contracts to expire doesn't satisfy me.

Geoff went out of his way to quit making stupid farm animal quips long enough to announce -- and he never announces ANYTHING -- that nobody was on the block. That Ron would be back. Mike was staying. Etc. It was gratutitous. Nothing had to be said at all. Meanwhile Reggie seems convinced that Brad is back. Of course given that this same GM went out of his way to opine that using your MLE every year would never get you anywhere, only to then turn around a week later and use his MLE again on an old scrub...maybe he's just completely full of it. Be a good thing actually. At this point we've reached the stage where the best hope for Geoff not being a burnout case is that he's a bald faced liar.

I'm with on everything except #5. How in the world with SAR, Miller, Bibby, Salmons and Artest is Theus going to have a running team? Is Miki and Hawes supposed to give this team jet fuel?

I suppose there are a couple of ways to take what I said. Maybe I meant that I've always watched, through the good times and the bad. In the alternate, I could just be trying to drive my autographed DC cards out of the 25-cent valuation basement they've always lived in.
But you know, if it were going to be a good season, I'd be looking forward to enjoying the games. If it's going to be a bad season, the sooner it starts, the sooner it's over with, right? A good deal either way.
