interview w/ maloof on khtk

I haven't thought a lot about this but I would think the cap might be relatively hard to keep parity and the Bird exemption would stay in place and perhaps enhanced to benefit the team to keep player continuity for the fans. I miss that. So, spend what you need to to keep your own player but otherwise all the other exemptioons can be done away with, especially the MLE. Perhaps eliminate the luxury tax if the only way of going over the cap is the Bird exemption.

Player continuity in a city is very important to me. It is meaningful to draft a player and have him retire without a team switch. It was very much like that in the past and the fan gets attached to the players far more than now. Although the fans that post here know everything about everybody on our team, the casual fan will be drawn more to the team if he/she isn't witnessing the musical chairs approach that is in play now.

I'll let other people battle this out. ;)

I hate to quibble over the word hard, but the very definition of a hard cap, is that there are no exceptions. It's the exceptions that the league is trying to do away with. I can see a grace period where the hard cap is phased in. But if the Larry Bird exception is allowed to continue, then its not a hard cap.

Oh, good grief, do you honestly think this clarified anything? I used the term "relatively hard" and I doubt if anyone was confused as to my intent. If you are going to dissect my every word, at least quote me properly.

A bit testy this morning aren't we? It wasn't for your clarification, it was for those that aren't familar with the cap and all of its meanings. There's a lot of confusion when it comes to the cap, and most of it revolves around the exceptions. And yes, it did clarify what is a hard cap. Sorry, but I have no definition of what is, a relatively hard cap.

When you quote me, I presume you are addressing me. If you don't understand what I mean, just ask. My definition of a relative hard cap is a hard cap with one exception.

At least I'm not suicidal.

I remember it. The quote was something like "we have cap space and we're going to spend all of it". then not long after that it changed to something like "I don't know if we'll spend all of it but we'll spend a good portion".

Do you have a link to this quote?

I don't expect them to spend all of it, that it would be stupid if they did. I think what everyone does expect is them to spend a good amount on a player that can come in and make a huge difference in wins.

Found the quote:

"We have cap space we're going to spend. I don't know if we'll spend all of it, but we'll spend a good portion of it."

There are those on this fourm that probably think a hard cap is something worn by a construction worker, and therefore, a relative hard cap is a something worn by your relatives.
