Don't Make Me Use The Bat
KINGS WIN! KINGS WIN!! Break out the booze! KINGS WIN!!!!!

17-65 = worst record in the 60 years of the franchise BTW. Realistically, we aren't going to be this bad again.

Thanks for playing everyone, and now onto the final grades of the season:

Nocioni ( B ) -- started off against..well nobody as McHale threw out the worst starting lineup in the history of the NBA in what I can only assume was a blatant attempt to tank -- Mike Miller (the designated real player), Kevin Ollie, Jason Collins, Brian Cardinal and Mark Madsen?? Noc proved no match at all for Craig Smith's power in the second quarter, but fortunately he did not have ot face it for extended miinutes as Smith fouled out in record time -- had 18pts in only 17 minutes before picking up his 6th. After drawing the 5th on Smith on a bit of a flop in the early minutes of the third, Noc celebrated by canning back to back threes and settled in for a solid overall final game.

Its been a season of change...

Thomspon ( B ) -- started the game being matched up against Mark Madsen, who was last good enough to evne be called a scrub back itn the days when we would win 60, not lose 60. Was solid to start, although again taking a back seat to Diogu's antics. Mostly a draw against a not terribly effective Love after he enterened the game. Love was better on the glass, but Jason lkooked smoother on offense and generally steadier. Worked out in the end to be a tick above his season numbers with a 14pt 7reb night.

A season of pain.

Diogu ( A ) -- came out still rolling against the defensively intimdating bizarroworld starting lineup for the Wolves. Was briefly slowed by the insertion of his predecessor in the groundbound and stubby department (Sheldon) as a cooler in the 2nd quarter. Battle of the stubs, which Sheldon actaully won for a while. Ike just lit up poor incompetent Jason Collins in the early third, finally chasing him from the game as Ike's numkerbs began to climb toward the ridiculous once more. And just because we are clearly in bizarroworld now, the guy who had the most luck slowing Ike in the late 3rd? Brian Cardinal. Cue creepy music and Rod Serling now. Ike began to get a little out of control by the late 3rd/early 4th though, maybe drinking his own koolaid and throwing up some wild bricks. May have tired a bit well as he began to tail, and missed the three on our final possession that would have given us a player with back to back 30-10 games for the first time since the Webber era I am sure. Tonight it "only" 28 and a career high tying 13. In fact if it had not been for the Denver game, tonight would have been his career night, setting highs in both points and rebounds. As mentioned, Bizarroworld. Adn almost too Bizarroworld for his own good. He goes 15 and 9 you go hmm...maybe he's better than I thought. He suddenly puts up back to back Karl Malone games, and something smells fishy.

Its been a season of turmoil...

Cisco ( C- ) -- think maybe Cisco just wanted the season to be over. Gave us nothing before half, did not hit his shots, did get a block on Shelden but otherwise nothing really on defense, and picked up 3 fouls and had to sit. Started running the team, and well in the third, repeatedly driving the lane and dishing to various teammates for open looks. But never got anything at going with his won offense, finsihing at 1-7 for the night, and everntually fouled out with 4 minutes to go, just when his clutch shooting theoretically might have come in handy (was not needed against this team however). I'll give a little grading credit for the assists and blocks, but like I say, looked like he was ready for this to be over.

Its been a season of records...of the wrong kind

Udrih ( C- ) -- returned to the starting lineup with all the impact of a wad of wet toilet paper. The Wolves were so impressed they started off matching him with the immortal Kevin Ollie, now playing for his 211th team in his 30 NBA seasons. Then they snapped back with the nearly as immortal Sebastien Telfair (he is a playground legend after all), who cannot shoot, but did tonight. Through it all Beno kept a steady approach to incompetence, never getting too low or too lower, putting up all of 6pts and 5ast in his 30+ minutes against nobody, and much of the time just staying out of the way as Cisco, BJax, or even McCants ran the offense. You can at least say did nothing really to hurt us tonight.

Its been the season of the Pretty Girl...

BJax ( B+ ) -- solid first half on both sides of the ball, not only hitting his shots, but coming up with 3 steals. On back to back possessions in the late 3rd was able to defend Kevin Love down inside as Love stumbled around and looked awful out there. Maybe got into a bit of too much of a one on one battle with his former mentee, the other Booby (Brown) in the early 4th. Came back to hit a big three immediately after Cisco fouled out to push the lead back up and the Wolves never recovered. Strong close to the season as Bobby onviously wanted to go out on top (if only of the dung pile that we have built this season). Whether it was just to end his career on his feet, or whether it was doing the Ike and trying to make a case for one last contract, deciding to forego that cheek surgery let him play some of his best ball for a few final games.

And the season of the smart one...
(and Kayte, if you are out there -- thanks for the great work this year. You know your stuff girl, and I hope you'll consider coming back for next season.)

Greene ( D+ ) -- long stretch of first half minutes, again empty, but again not gunning. Had a three waived off just befor ethe end of the first half, leaving him finsihing it scoreless. Used his length to grab a couple of o-boards, but lots of zeroes in the boxscore otherwise.
Kings_superheroes594x600.jpg

Its been a season for superheroes...

McCants ( B ) -- clearly wanted to score against his old mates, and the coach who gave up on him. Maybe too much in the first half as it was leading to some low percentage three point bombing. Aggressively looked for his shot after half as well, and in the 4th carried much of our offense, scoring more by persistence and aggressiveness than brillaince to keep our point totals climbing, and hold off the less than inspiring 4th quarter charge of the Wolves. Added in a few good assists as well, using his penetrating ability to set up others this time, and it was a strong/solid (maybe I should make up the word "strolid") way to close his season. Be interesting to see what we do with him this offseason. He can clearly play. But does he fit, in particular if we decide to stick with Kevin?

And a season for old friends.

Simmons ( INC ) -- some brief first half miinutes this time, and that was probably it for his Kings, and quite possibly NBA career. Bon voyage Cedric, wherever your basketball travels may take you.

They say it is always darkest before the dawn...

Booth ( A+ ) -- hey, the Boothman always gets a grade, and that grade is always an A+. To know him is to love him is to call this a likely wrap on his career. As an aside, Ike is not the only Kings bigman scrub who knows how to mac daddy it: Boothman and the Babes
nba_g_draft_lottery_580.jpg

And hope springs eternal...

Natt ( ) -- well, glad you got to close on a win dude, but I'm afraid this is sayonara. Thank you for the draft pick however.

Considering our recent history picking coaches, I went with draft day and 3 picks.

I went with the Tropical Island Draft Threads.

It's selfish, I know, but I kind of don't want the team to get decent again until I'm living someplace that has League Pass. :p

Yeah, see ya later Natt. If you only coached like Mike Brown instead of just looking like him, maybe you would've stuck around longer.

Goodbye Coach Natt!! Honestly, all the losing we did while you were coach didn't feel as bad as living through a season of drinking the Muss Kool Aid!

Just wanted to thank you Brick for these great threads all season. I laughed, i learned, i saw some very hot young lady's.

Can't wait for the draft considering how much college ball i have been watching recently with my Kings and Raiders being down, should be fun.

Voted for coach. Avery Johnson would be fine, but I have a bad feeling that can't happen unless both Jordan and Whis are snatched out from under us Van Gundy-style...

LOL! same reason i chose draft

Also since wither we like it or not EDDIE JORDAN will be the next coach... super awesome i know! but hey maybe that means coachie sticks around for a tad longer and maybe Jordan brings in a def. specialist to his crew... either way hes a safe choice and if the time comes where we're almost back to being contenders and hes not getting the job done THEN we get a top notch coach.

Remember the game where we beat phoenix and essentially sent them into the lotto? I had a vision that they got the #1 pick

nice theme to end the season. thanks for all of the grading this season, brick.

instead of jolie, you should've used moneymike's mystery girl (i know YOU know who she is, but did anyone else figure it out???). :D

I'm probably beating a dead horse... but thank you very much for the grades this season brick. The time and effort you put in (or don't...) does not go by unappreciated... please know that. Sometimes I run away at work and use the computer by the dark corner (I swear there is something in the dark) just so I can read the grades. Looking forward to it again.

I too went with the 3 draft picks. For Coach Natt, well at least you found out what it's like to coach in the NBA. Good luck in the future. The houston pick now looks to be #22/23 and could be a key pick in the overall scheme of things.

So, here is my summer of Kings BB:

May 19th NBA lottery drawing

June 25 NBA draft

July 10-19 Vegas Summer League

Oct 1 training camp 2009 starts

For playoffs at least over here we have the Sharks with home court throughout......

Brick, I have always enjoyed your grade threads. And, this season was extra special. Then, you had to go and top it off with a fantastic theme to wrap up the entire season. Bravo!!

And...

THANKS!!
