"We have a good coach in Paul Westphal" was his exact words while talking about the Kings future .. now, maybe Im reading, or listening too much into it but that doesnt sound like something you would say about a coach your going to fire someday soon.

Honestly, I dont know if Paul Westphal is the guy for this team anymore. I've wanted him gone multple times during last season, but we finished the season off on a good stetch .. its a tough call. You have to give him some credit though, even through all the drama with relocation and all the Cousins stuff, the team never quit on him.

Some people brought up OKC in the Oden thread, and how there roster didnt drastically change for them to go from a 23 win team to a 50 win team... the one thing that DID change was the head coach. After a 1-13 start OKC fired PJ Carlesimo and gave Scott Brooks the job for the rest of the year .. and while he only went 22-46 that was a HUGE improvement over the 1-13 start.

Im gunna throw a poll up too.

Well, they did already commit to paying him next season. Given everything else going on right now, I'd be shocked if they went head coach shopping now. But it's the right decision I think regardless. He's earned another season I think and we'll see if he makes significant progress with the team.

yeah, i highly doubt they will pay another coach with the uncertainty surrounding the season. remember when they said they'll spend every penny of the cap? lol, they said they'll spend alot of it in an interview.

Unless Jerry Sloan comes knocking, or Maloofs sell and Adelman considers a return, I'm happy giving Westphal another year to try to keep the momentum going that the team seemed to have toward the end.

As long as he keeps his rotations similar to what he used towards the end of the year I'm all for it. If he starts playing the rotation game like a roulette wheel again it's time to get the ax!

I honestly don't think Westphal is in any danger unless the ownership changed.

He has done a reasonable job. The team hasn't quit on him and while I would love to show him the door to bring in Adelman, I am aware that its never going to happen under the current ownership.

I think our record is not really reflective of our ability or the issues that Westphal has had to deal with this season. The only issue I have with him is that he loves to experiment with the line ups and rotations and I am not a big fan of that approach. He just can't help himself and that why it is dangerous to give him too many option. It took him half a season to try something that everyone was calling for at the start of the year, and thats play Dalembert and Cousins together. Who can forget that JT at SF experiment either.

I am not against bringing him back provided that he is given clear instruction not to experiment with the line ups too much. We really should only have one spot available in the starting line up and thats at SF. Everything else should be set in stone provided we re-sign Dalembert and Thornton. We know that JT is the first big off the bench and Beno is the first guard off the bench. Everything else he can play around with but stop pee farting around with the line up and let the team settle and grow together.

He's under contract for next year. There is the possiblity of a lock out next year. The last thing they are going to do is pay 2 coaches not to coach. He will be gone quick if there is a season next year and they are not winning.

I don't know if he really earned it, but at this point I think you have give him the reigns at the start of the season. But if the team makes some significant additions, and they get off to a bad start, I suspect he'll be on a short leash.

Well if you listened to the interview with Grant yesterday, that everyone and their mom knew about, he explicitly said "Westphal will be back, we're giving him a chance to see what he can do". Word for word.

After the way we closed the seaosn, I thought that really, having Westphal back was probably the right play. He finally seemed to have it figured out, the guys were playing hard, and with such a young team continuity is important. Might even help in retaining Thornton and Daly. I do agree though if he starts mucking with rotations again and we get off to a bad start he might not survive long.

I don't think anyone is out there who is a realistic replacement. We already have Mario Elie on deck just in case Westphal struggles next season.

Despite what the Maloofs say; I think they're broke and they have the cheapest coach in the league getting paid next year regardless. Umm... He's not getting fired before his contract is over with.
