Have faith Kingsfans. July 1 12am (or 9pm tonight for us in the West) allows talking with FA's, both unrestricted and restricted, and July 10 for signing FA's.

So beginning 9pm monday night, conspiracy theories can turn into real rumors and verbal agreements then the following Thursday, 10 July, contracts can be signed and reality begins.

IMHO the Kings will add a true ball handler, pass first guard, a rim protector and bench players who can shoot from 3 and defend a little, with the rim protector being the most difficult and pass first guard the most important.

Quite a shopping list... how much under the cap are we? Darren Collison is my projected fa signee... that would unfortunately come at the expense of not resigning IT. Also think we'll sign a scrub center but aside from that not expecting much w/out a trade.

I have faith that the Kings will make at least one move to improve the team and quite possibly more. They need to have partners willing to trade or willing to settle on a number to get a deal. Work hard and be lucky.

Monday night is going to be flooded with rumors before that clock strikes midnight in the east coast.

Good solid Veterans. A PG who is a +defender and a Big who defends better than JT. Otherwise just keep JT.

I dig your optimism Dude. While free agency has historically been even worse to us than than the draft, AND we are right up against the cap I DO think PDA can get some work done here. This year the only talent we might see walk is IT, and I don't see how PDA does NOT turn him into a trade asset if the offers exceed acceptable for a back up PG. We have a few other trade assets so I have high hopes that trades WILL improve the roster (they have historically been our best friend).

PDA has stated that this can't be the team that heads into preseason, so he knows moves have to be made.

The question becomes, what kind of moves? If they are Landry moves, then his goose will be cooked sooner rather than later.

Listening to interviews, he certainly seems to understand what this team needs, but actions speak louder than words. We will certainly see what happens.

I have no faith in the Kings right now. I am concerned that they will have the same team as last year. However I sure hope they prove me wrong.

They completely changed the team last year. Do you want them to completely change the team again this year? We will be OK with FA signings. Probably take a chance on someone who has been on the bench behind a star or someone who was a starter but a 4th or 5th fiddle.

While I agree, I think people tend to assume that just because we want someone to trade good players to us for whatever we can give isn't necessarily a guarantee that such action will, in fact, take place. It's been pretty well established that PDA isn't just sitting around doing nothing. Our real problem may be that other teams are very reluctant to make deals with us.

No faith? PDA made some pretty solid trades last year so it's not like he's forgotten how to do it or suddenly became content with what we have. It takes two to tango here. We can't just unload our bad players and pick up guys we need. If the other team doesn't want or like what we have, then there's not much we can do about it. Sames goes with free agency. They can't force a player or a GM to deal with us.

We might not get everything we need (or wish for) this year. The Magoofs left the franchise in shambles and it will take a little time to get back into playoff territory. A trade(s) will most likely be the biggest route we take this summer (to get more cap room) to sign a free agent or two. As Gary said: someone who will improve the team a little, but very very small chance for a big name FA to come here. We WILL be better this coming year, and that's an improvement. Next year, more improvement, etc. Playoffs when we're in our new arena. Go Kings!!!

None really. Exceptions. Which is why it would take some real magic to fulfill that wish list.

Unless our guys trade value is better than we think.

The three enders (Terry, DWill and Outlaw) could be a key, but those are typically useful when you are taking back an ugly contract in return. Which we may just have to do. Whatever it takes.

So are you saying you would like the same team as last year that only won 28 games?

Thats why I think that the *gulp* Josh Smith *gulp* deal is still very much alive and its two sides waiting to see how things pan out in free agency (i.e. What happens with us and IT and what do Pistons do with Monroe....do they match a max offer if he gets one???)

The Rudy Gay and Josh Smith type deals are pretty much the only way we can gain talent for the crap we have.

Everyone was saying last year that we were 500 with DC, RG and IT playing. We have added Stauskas. Plus the team will have another year with the new coach. We should be better already.

Based on our financial situation we wont be major players in FA. It will have to be with trades. Our upcoming season will be better than last year but still not great. PDA wont be able to get everything all at once, and it will take a few years to get there. Even when we got good really quick, grabbing Vlade CWebb, JWill, it took us several years to piece all that together. (Hedo, BJax, Bibby etc). Same here. It will take a few years. I think in the madden generation where you can revamp your roster in 5 minutes, some, not all, want it now. The Maloof stench still smells really bad and a lot of us are scared we wont be active at all and will just get by. It is a feeling that will take a while to get rid of. We aren't used to a group that is actively willing to improve the roster. It will take some time. And we will get there. And it will feel great when we do.

it may have taken a few years for the golden era kings to truly hit their stride with the right combination of talent, but they were winners almost immediately. after trading for chris webber and signing vlade divac, the kings knocked out a 27-23 season (.540) and turned in a first round playoff loss in a post-lockout environment. circumstances are certainly different now, and the league has continued to evolve in the time since, but roster-building is still very much the same kinda game for small market franchises...

that said, i wouldn't mistake the impatience of many at kf.com for entitlement or petulance; it's simply a practical view of the need to start winning as soon as possible. with a new arena opening in time for the '16-'17 season, and with the clock ticking on both demarcus cousins' contract extension and his patience, there must be clear movement in the direction of the playoffs. upward momentum is important for vivek ranadive's "nba 3.0" vision because, at the end of the day, fans expect to see a winning team on the court, and if the kings blow their shot at building a winner around demarcus cousins and are forced to start from scratch yet again, no amount of crowdsourcing, google glass, or other related gimmicks/distractions will be able to keep the fans in the [shiny new] building...

in my opinion, the kings need to be at .500 or close to it by the end of the coming season. there needs to be tangible progress in the win/loss column, and there needs to be a plan, a system, and a synergy in place that allows for further improvement beyond any "turn the corner" moment that might come in the next couple of seasons. this summer remains an incredibly important step in the process...

Will be very interesting to see who we contact at 12:01.

Who and what type of player is going to be our priority?

I don't think we'll hear about IT right away. I'm guessing the first wave will go through, then as teams look to fill out their roster, IT will be contacted.

Whether or not they will overspend on him is another discussion, but I think it relates to the first point. Would a team going all in on Lowry go after IT if they lose out?

i wonder if there are any free agents the Kings have a legit chance of picking up, that will actually help the team, not just some bench rider

I think PDA has to go Point Guard first and foremost.

They will probably offer IT a nice contract of say 7-8million a year for 4 years. They will have to put a time constraint on the offer (i.e. 48 hours, like to Andre Igudola) and if he doesn't sign, they will move on and offer the full MLE to Mario Chalmers or Darren Collison.

A rim protector or shot blocker will come next and they will chose from a few low budget, need to prove they can stay healthy type guys like Emeka Okafor or Andreis Biedrens. Otherwise, they will need a trade for a rim protector.

Chalmers isn't that bad...c'mon now. He wouldn't be my first choice, but he's a good defender and can hit a 3. Some playoff team will love him as a backup PG.
