Francisco Garcia re-injures calf, out "a couple of weeks"

Francisco Garcia re-injured his calf at practice today and will likely be out for a couple of weeks now. That hurts, literally

Now the question is, does Donte stay in the starting line up? I think Omri has found his place coming off the bench. The Kings would be too small with anyone else in the lineup.

That sucks. Silver lining: Donte gets a chance to show he's more than just a towel-waver. Though I've started having Quincy Douby flashbacks.

Garcia can't seem to catch a break. (No pun intended.)

Donte should still see some minutes, even if Casspi is the starter. Unless Westphal brings back the Head/Jackson experiment.

PW: There's no reason you can't play Casspi 30m and Donte 5m, even if Donte starts. For the love of Jehu, leave's Casspi's rotation alone.

That would be typical Westphal.

STOP FIDGETING WITH THE LINEUPS!!!

We have been right in positoon to win all these games. What's stopping us inexperience and dumbness. Stay the course for once and let them get over the hump.

I don't see why those two aren't splitting the minutes evenly every night. They're both inconsistent and both have different skillsets to offer the team on any given night, so why not give both a shot with 24 minutes each? Give or take a few, depending on which of the two is playing better that night.

Having to serve the reserve SF role shouldn't mean risking a DNP-CD, but it does on this team. Atrocious coaching.

Does this mean Whiteside will be on the active roster? Can you say..."garbage time"?

I'm going to the game tomorrow in Oakland. I'll be screaming @ coach to put Whiteside in if we're getting blown out. I want to see him use 6 fouls in 2 minutes.

That's be good for, what, 4-5 blocks?

Is he a failure if he doesn't play all 82?

I assume its just a strained calf.
The obvious insinuation I was making is that Cisco is hurt WAY too often, and the Kings are stuck with 2+ more years of this oft-injured lackluster vet clogging up the bench and taking 6 - 7 million dollars a year to do so.

You've said yourself, many times, that he simply doesn't bring enough when he plays, and earlier any quality play from him was inexplicably absent for a solid month.

Did you purposely ignore my insinuation, or just miss it?

So is Garcia slowly becoming injury prone then? and yuck at Greene starting again. But I guess theres no other option really besides Omri but he's better suited coming off the bench.

Again, that line about Garcia becoming injury prnoe started last year and was just ridiculous. He had this increfible freak accident last year sure. But his seasons for us have been 67 (also a freak acident on that landing on Miller's foot trying to knock the stuck ball loose thing hs rookie year), 79, 79, 65, then last year's freak accident, and then this year looking like maybe 70ish at this point unless he gets hurt again. Setting aside last season. That's an average of about 72 games a year. Not ironman stuff, but hardly some incredibly injury prone dude on the way down. And now because he strained his calf and is out 2 weeks? I mean wth?

Cisco playing up "injuries" on the court and drama queening all the time =/= Cisco actually being especially injury prone over his years with us.

P.S. this could work out well for us heading toward the trade deadline. Cisco has been seen/called a veteran leader here and may have value because of it, but if the team is able to pick up momentum while he is out, and if Donte/Casspi do engouh, it could make a Cisco trade more practical, although of course I would hope not so extremely necessary we start giving up things just to move him.

It is an opportunity, but it could be squandered with Westphal creating carousel rotations with players that could play the position. We'll see.

That, and what's a couple of weeks anyway? 6, 7 games?

I don't know if he'll be active, but I was pretty disappointed with the Bee's report on Whiteside's time in Reno. It is written by Voisin, but some of Whiteside's comments bother me.

I agree here. If Dalembert (or any vet) WANTS to work with you, you go. No questions asked. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, whatever. I think the NBDL would have been productive, if he had been receiving consistent PT, or at least, fouling out for a while.

He may not have got much playing time in Reno due to poor attitude. Pooh needs to talk to that guy about how hard and constantly you have to work, no matter where you are (NBDL, overseas) and regardless of your playing time.

I didn't think of that aspect until I re-read the article. Either way, everyone knew he was a project and probably wouldn't see any PT his first year anyway. I wonder if Whiteside realized that as well? I'm going to assume that he didn't. Whether he was right or not in assuming otherwise is a different conversation altogether.

Some of the comments on the bee website are incredible "good luck flipping burgers."

Way to get behind our rookies. Does it only take one article to make people get the pitch forks out?

HW seems like a real insecure guy in interviews, seems like someone who really wants to belong; i fear he will have taken that D league stint as a bit of a punking.

I do wonder about his positional play, watched every summer league game and one in reno and he seems totally lost on offence; just sort of wanders around setting random picks... he was the same in reno from what i saw... maybe he struggles with assimilating info.. there were questions about his ability to learn going into the draft.

I'm going to jump in here and say that I don't think Cisco is starting caliber material. But he's more than adequate as a first man off the bench type player. So unless he reaches a stage where he's injured more than he plays, I don't have a problem with his contract. Yes he's a little overpaid based on his talent, but compared to other contracts around the league, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Our problem is that we needed to start him. I think Petrie was hoping that one of Casspi or Greene would have won the starting job by now. It is what it is, and what it is, is a great opportunity for Greene to show he should be getting minutes. My advice to him is, take all the open shots that the other team gives you. Don't put the ball on the floor and try to create for yourself. Don't drive into traffic. And only make passes that are safe. Play good defense, and rebound like you did in the last game. Do those things and you'll be fine. Know what your limitations are, and play to your strengths.

It was reported at Marshall that he had a learning disability. It was later denied by Whiteside's agent, so who knows. I saw him play around 4 or 5 times at Marshall, and I stated that he wasn't ready for the big time. He was a terrible passer, and as a result, he seldom passed the ball. I don't remember exactly, But he had something like 7 assists the entire season. Nothing to write home about for sure. But he's not without talent, and thats the good part. He has a nice little 12 to 15 foot jumpshot with very nice form. His post game wasn't terrible, but his footwork needed a lot of work. He wasn't a bad rebounder, but should have been better. Obviously shotblocking is his claim to fame.

I think he's a lot like Cousins as far as maturity goes. Different personality, but similar mentality. Probably why they get along so well. Kids do like to play together. The good part is that the Kings see him as a project and are willing to give him the time to develop. It would be nice to see him get some minutes here and there.
